A friend of mine has recently acquired a manual Superb 1.9 TDi, and it's struggling a bit with first and reverse being fairly difficult to differentiate.

 

Any ideas on what may be causing this? My guess is a worn retaining collar that stops the reverse lockout working properly.

 

Experience/tips welcome.
