Buying advice on Superb coming from fabia 1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've got a change of position coming up that means a 30mile commute to work each day so I'm considering a replacement to my fabia 1 vrs.

I've come across the superb and I'm looking for some buying advice.

From what I've read so far the trim levels follow the old fabia with elegance being top (ignoring ed100 and l+k as I'm unlikely to come across one haha)

The same lump as the fabia is the diesel to go for, good old pd130.

Should I be aware of an optional extra list? I've seen elegance in manual, auto, sunroof, Solar sunroof (not sure how to tell which is which) mfd1 sat nav, cream or black leather and most recently saw one on autotrader with screens in the front headrests.

I've seen door seals are still suspect for water ingress as well as around the pollen filter, and plenum chamber (wheres that?) the recall for which is removing a grommet to allow water to drain, under the battery wasn't it?

With it being a pd mileage shouldn't be too much of an issue providing it's serviced OK. Are these timing belt still or chain driven?

Are the auto boxes fairly reliable? Initially I was leaning towards the auto because it means changing the haldex clutch fluid on services and I service my fabia myself every 5k.

Is there anything else I should look for, what's the going rate for a maintained unit? I'm probably going to have to get one trade as I won't have the cash for private plus I'd need to sell the fabia after.

Anyone?

I've noticed the pd130 are few and far between, but I gather I need to avoid the 2.0 because of reliability issues.

Hi, I've got the 2006, 2ltr 140 DTI elegance, manual, with all the toys lol.

Had it since November.

What ever you do, make sure every light works, inside and out !! And I mean every one !

If they don't, be prepared for a lot of work of re-wiring !! Not hard but just a pain when its cold and raining all the time lol.

Full service history ideally is a must.

Not sure I'd buy a superb again, unless i cud afford a lot newer one lol.
