MY20 Amundsen Sound Quality

Featured Replies

Hi

I’ve got a new vRS 245 Challenge which is great, and have been putting the Amundsen (non canton) through its paces.
I’m finding the mid bass quite a bit “boxy” compared to my previous one which was a 17 model.

I’ve done the Škoda surround and virtual sub mod, and they sound different on and off, but still the mid bass sounds boxy, rather than the more rounded sound on previous car.

Anyone finding the same? Or is it a case of the speakers need “running in” to sound their best?

Cheers.

A speaker needs at least 50hrs to even start to soud at its best. Also the amplifier will need time to run in aswell.  Sometimes a system sounds best with everything left at zero and just turn up the volume.  Some settings can over exaggerate the bass and make it sound bloated. Equally the same with the mid range and treble.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes. I could imagine that you’re right but didn’t notice it on last car. It seems to have quite a nice clean deep bass sound, it’s just the mid bass sounds a bit hollow if you know what I mean.
I just wondered if anyone else had thought the same.

Cheers.

Yes speakers and amps sound better when they've had time to bed in, but when you're talking about the cheapest of cheap speakers and an amp that has no power, that's not what happens. It's far more likely that thru time, it's your ears that become accustomed to the same sound.

Yes ageed with all above.  The Amunsden needs a little while to bed in.  Whilst you are there; I had a firmware update on my VRS 186 TDi (MY18) and it transformed the audio.  I don't trust Skoda to put on the latest firmware onto their cars from the factory, so it is worth asking for a firmware upgrade to the radio when the car is next in for service (although they will ask you if it is broken....just say it sounds tinny, occassionally randomly crashes....and that should be enough to fix your warranty firmware upgrade)

That’s interesting too.
Can you see what version you have in the about screen to compare?

Thanks.

That is what is current on my 2019 MY19 Scout....

ODBEleven says that is probably the latest variant, although I will check.
