Superb, First thoughts

Featured Replies

We finally got the new Superb Elegance on Saturday so only had it for a couple of days. It will be my wifes car so during the period she spent choosing her next car I didnt actually drive any of the cars she tried, I felt as she was going to do 30000 + a year in it I shouldnt influence her choice, shes a reosnable judge of cars anyway. She tried a few cars & came back to Skoda & plumped for the Superb over the Octy 2 which suprised me.

So yesterday was actually the first time I had ever driven a Superb & only managed about 100 miles in it but the initial impressions are excellent what an underrated car it is by the mojority & it really isnt a barge to drive like I expected. The build quality is excellent, not a single squeek or rattle, its incredibly quiet & just so easy to drive. Its going to be an excellent car for swallowing up the miles, the only problem I had was decifering the Sat nav but I guess I need to read the book.

One question (again havent read the book) I looked in the boot last night & the car has what looks like a full size spare but it has a speed rating sticker on it similar to a space saver, can anyone enlighten me.

Overall a brilliant car & incredible value for money, We are looking forward to many happy Superb miles

You certainly love your skodas mate...

they do go round corners quite well and the suspension isn't too bad for a big car....but like you say it eats miles and to be honest I love long trips now.

as for the spare I am sure it is the same size as the ones on the car only difference being it's a steel...so I can't see the problem really.

We did look at other cars, she even tried a B class merc (hated it) but as soon as you started to look at costs the Skoda came out on top, its our third Skloda & both the previous have been brilliant, in fact we still have them.

The choice was also helped by having a brilliant service department in Winchester Motor Co, having had horrendous experiences with both Ford & GM Dealers it helped the decision

Because it will be a 16" steel wheel and will not be the same size or speed rating/ loading etc the safety regualations kick in resulting in I guess - resulting on the very visible slow speed stickers on the spare. Although its not the same size as one of the skinney space saving wheels on some cars the same rules apply I guess.

Thats the reason when one of my tyres needed replacing in CZ (developed a bulge hitting a large unrepaired hole in road) that I had to pay £300 ish for a tyre to match the OE one to be flown in from Germany rather than drive back to the uk being speed restricted if I fitted the spare - it would have meant adding a dayto my return trip having my German speed limit effectivly halved.

Enjoy your new car and listen out for the unusual sat nav messages i.e "prepare to keep straight on" and follow the parallel cariagway"

It's why I got a 'proper' alloy one fitted with the spare tyre (which is the normal one) and got it balanced. If I don't get LPG fitted (which would use the spare wheel well) it means I can just swap the wheel. Only thing missing is the Skoda badge in the middle, it's currently just a gap, but I'll try to get that sorted :)

So why cant you fit a 16" tyre of the correct rating on the steel spare or why didnt they do that anyway ??? It will still have the correct outer radius

Im bemused
