Bought my first car, Roomster 2007 1.9TDI

Featured Replies

Lovely, needed cruise control due to bad knee, had a similar shaped Suzuki Wagon R+ before but gifted by relatives so this is the first car I've bought.

Got a couple of issues, parking sensors and two of four speakers have bass distortion, minor things and I'm electrically and technically minded so should be fun. Need to find a free workshop manual and some way of doing VAG-COM or more than simple odb2. Driven from Bristol to Cornwall and lovely drive, well chuffed.

I can't remember exactly how off-hand, but you may find that you can adjust the bass level (hint, set it to 0) using the volume control dial.

Thanks, yeah I believe it's the Dance version of DIN unit, which has a treble cleff music symbol to do  base/fade etc. It was all up at nine and dropping helped massively, also removing small stones/glass shards from door pocket removed some vibration noises during bassy numbers, but the passenger left is definitely unhappy above mild bass even at zero and faded balance mostly right.

Found a good door panel removal video so will have a look tomorrow, maybe it's just panel noise and some wadding/padding will fix, fingers crossed. Someone mentioned mildly corroded contacts can do same thing so sanding a bit can help, I guess always worth trying before replacing the unit.

So it seems the left bass speaker in passenger front was ceased or rusting inside the coil space. Didn't want to drill the rivets, so worked it loose for 10-15minutes in the rain and it sounds acceptable to heavy bass levels. There is vibration noise from both left doors, including broken door clips which I now have spares, but plan to do some deadening and some insulation. Fixed the heated mirror and left window switch (can't easily get the old switch out the case, but replacement works at least). It's ticking along nicely :)
