2014 Octavia 1.6tdi DSG - Errors.

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have had my 2014 Octavia Estate 1.6tdi DSG for about 8 years now. We bought it at a really good price due to it having 108,000 miles, and had been great until recently. It has now clocked 168000 miles and last week I started getting odd errors popping up. First was when I was driving and was breaking for a red light. I felt it pop out of gear and had stop in the street with my hazards on as it would not go into gear. I had the following errors appear on the dashboard screen. Error Stabilisation Control (ECS), Tyre Pressure Loss, as well as "Move the Selector lever to P/N", even though the lever was in P, and it has the P icon flashing next to the lever. I tried starting the car unsuccessfully about 3 or 4 times until it finally turned over and was able to drive off. Once driving the only error was that start /stop was not working. I booked it into my garage asap for the beginning of this week. Anyway we needed to do a food shop last weekend and it then happened again in the car park. I was not able to get it working at all and had to call the AA. The faults that had come up was the following.

Engine management - VEH / Engine management EDC 17C64 UDS Status :U112300 - Data bus. Error Message : Signal reception. Error static. Status :U042800 - Steering wheel angle sensor. Error Message : Signal improbable. Error static. Status :U010100 - Communication with the system <Transmission control>. Error Message : No communication. Error static.

He worked on it for a good hour and a half, following all the wire looms under the bonnet, and checking all the fuses etc. We managed to get it starting again and we drove it to the garage ready for after Easter.

So this week garage looked at it and had their auto electrician look at it too. The issue was that as it worked perfectly for them, no error codes showed up, even though I had given them the AA report. They could not be certain what the issue is without seeing it happen.

What they did say was that there was an error for excessive clutch use ( or similar) and said that I would at some point soon need to take it to get that replaced, but as it is in the DSG, that is a massive job. Also his gut feeling was the issue was either mechatronic or gearbox related. It was going to cost a lot to start replacing parts to see if it fixed it - more than the car is worth.

I have now lost all confidence in the car, even if it drives well at the moment.

I feel my only option now is to part ex it and get a newer Octavia, because I really do love these cars

Has anyone else had similar issues?

I know these intermittent issues are the biggest pain as unless you see it you can't really diagnose it. The AA man might have fixed it by unplugging and plugging a connector together, but I really don't want to test it out any more.
