Auxillary towbar wiring

Featured Replies

Hi, I plan to add the auxillary wiring to my towbar electrics, had anyone done it or does anyone know the best way to route the cable to the battery? Cheers all

I am pretty certain a loom goes down both sides of the car...so take your pick really

I used the existing feed to the 12V socket in the boot on my Octy (not sure if you've got one in the superb) which acording to my haynes is the same fuse as what the factory would have wired it to.

Then used a self switching relay to protect the battery, rather than running a control cable to the alternator/ignition switch.

The Superb does have a 12V outlet socket in the boot. I used the feed from the back of this to power the trailer stoplights via a relay - VAG stoplight switches are rubbish and will not reliably take the extra load. If a 10A supply will provide enough current for your aux. socket, this is an easy wiring job.
