thinking of selling my number plate

Featured Replies

Been given a valuation of £300 for the plate on my MX5.

I am considering selling and getting my own personal plate.

I am not sure how i go about this.

If i seel my plate then what do i do about a reg no for my car? Can i get my personal plate and put it on the car straight away or do i need to get a reg number for the car first?

Or do i put my own personal plate straght on then if i want to transfer my plate, get another nymber for the MX5???

Thought they stopped the sale or transfer of a cars original plate ?

I have no idea, thats why i am asking:)

You can't sell the cars original plate. If its not the original then thats ok.

You need to go to the DVLA office most local to you, with the V5 and tell them you want the plate putting on retention. They will charge you £100 odd, issue the Mazda with its original plate, and the certificate is then yours to sell.

I am guessing that seeing as my car has only been imported within the last month that the plate it has on is the original one and therefore i cannot sell it.

Never mind.
