Favorit Alarm issue

Featured Replies

Hi

I was wondering if anyone may be able to help me. I was given my favorit by my grandad because he needed something with power-steering but today I fell out of love with my car :(

My Grandad disconnected the alarm because he just kept the car in a garage and hardly used it so the alarm ended up running the battery down. I have never reconnected the alarm because I was too lazy to get new batteries for the fob thing but today he has started to make funny beeping noises, kind of like your smoke alarm when the battery is low.

I don't understand because the alarm's disconnected but I cant think of anything else that could be making the noise. Sometimes it will be silent for ages, other times it will beep at every knock. It was very embarrassing in a traffic jam this evening. One of my rear bulbs went last week so I checked the fuse before buying a new bulb, but that was at the back of the car and if it had something to do with that then why hasn't it done anything before now? Plus the engine doesn't have to be turned on. It is a single sound, not a ringing, and is generally high pitched, but if he has a run of a few "beeps" the tone will go slightly lower as though he is fed up of making the noise!

Can anyone help me at all? I thought maybe it was due to the intense cold we seem to be getting now... the battery light isn't on because I thought it could have something to do with that - it is similar to when I reconnected the battery once, while the alarm was disconnected, and it just beeped as though it had reset or something.

I really have no idea, and I do love my car, and he is such a good runner, but he's really doing my head in with it...!!

Pleeeaaase help me!! :(

Luv Bexidoodle

:)If I were you I'd remove the alarm unit and all it's wiring.

:cool:Is it the Favorit in your pic? Looks like a Mk1. Very cool indeed.

Thanks :), yeh its the one in the picture. It's in really condition, just the annoying alarm! Is it easy enough to remove the alarm and wiring or am I better off taking it to a garage...? I've done little bits myself before, like changing the distribution cap and arm and cleaning bits here and there, but I don't want to mess with the wires if I'm likely to short something somewhere else...?!

What wires remain connected to the unit itself, and where do they go to? Looking at the parts catalogue, there should be a 4 pin connector. Try disconnecting this. If there are sensors in the car itself then there will be some wires leading to those.

Ask your Granddad if he's got any manuals or that that came with the alarm, and where he mounted the actual control box (and sounder if applicable).

We can't really say much more than that with aftermarket kit, because it's so variable in instalation.
