aux belt problem

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Superb Classic 1.9 tdi I have replaced the aux belt and tensioner along with the power steering pump but still make a horrible noise on tick over, you can see the belt jumping between the alternator and power steering pump. If you flick water on the belt it stops for a while, what the hell is it, all pullys seem to move ok.

The one-way drive clutch in the alternator pulley is knackered. This is another very common VAG problem which they have failed to rectify.

You need a special spline driver tool to hold the alternator shaft so that you can unscrew the pulley nut. (My method was to dismantle the alternator and grip the rotor claws in a workmate between two wooden Vee blocks).

Change it before the rest of the drive gets damaged.

Had this problem on mine aswell.............

Got an idea, which I do to mine, get a cheap tin of underarm and spray the belts and the pulleys, ime it's the belt slipping that causes the squeal, I've tried wd40 etc and it always comes back, a can of Arrid seems to stop it.
