  1. Well, I took the Octavia into a gearbox specialist for some advice. "Does it go into all the gears no problem when the engine isn't running"? Asked the gearbox specialist. "No problem at all there" I replied. "Then your clutch isn't releasing properly. You need a new clutch and dual mass flywheel, that ain't cheap" was the advice from the gearbox specialist. So, I need to lay out around a grand for this work. Don't know whether to have it done or is it time to part company with the old girl? Decisions decisions.....
  2. I have driven my 2005 octavia 2.0 tdi with this exact problem for 3 years now. Had a couple of people look at it. One suggested cables, the other changed the gearbox oil. Still the same and I have covered over 60,000 miles like it. A bit annoying but how much money do you need to throw at a problem that nobody really knows how to fix? If anyone knows what causes this please share how to fix!
  3. I just replaced the passenger side cover on my 2005 Octavia. Used partsgateway.com initially but the best quote I got was 40 quid. An ebay search ended up in me getting one in the right colour for 20. To fit, you need to pull the washer out of the bumper as its spring loaded, then simply clip the cover on. Nice and easy :-)
  4. Cambridge to Newcastle round trip was a breeze in the Octavia

  5. Gazman, the garage told me it's not your run of the mill oil but they said they can get it without too much problem. I have been driving around a few weeks since the change and unfortunately report that my issue still exists. Stuart, mine can get stuck in 2nd but it is much worse in 1st and reverse. It's green a real pig to drive the last couple of days. Looks like another bill coming my way....
  6. I took my car to a clutch specialist in Bedfordshire and after a test drive it was agreed that there is no slipping so it must be some simple solution, not the dreaded new clutch! The garage changed the gearbox oil and since then the car has driven so much better. Still not 100% and I can't guarantee that the change in the weather has not played some part in the improvement but so far so good. The cost was £120 all in.
  7. Company Astra returned in favour of car allowance. Glad I kept the Octavia!

  8. I know. How ironic! For the moment it has to be the Astra as it has become available since somebody left. Next year should mean a brand new option. Might look at the fabia estate ;-)
  9. I worked out my annual spend on the Octavia and it exceeded a grand. Total cost of the Astra £780 p/a in tax. No brainier really, it also means if I can't get into work one day due to car trouble, it's the companies problem, not mine like it has been in the past! It will be a shame to sell it but hey ho. Apologies for the first post, didn't realise I was not allowed to do that!
  10. Company car means the Octavia has to go :-(

  11. My company has kindly offered me a company car as I'm racking up the miles on mine. While the company car is going to save me money in the long run it pains me to have to sell my p&j The new car is a entry level Astra diesel estate. No leather. No heated seats. No climate control. No personality.
  12. Octavia 140... Worth chipping?
