I have been told by my dealer, that if on variable, as I am on, then these figures will vary according to type of driving and driving conditions.  

If on fixed, then these figures will just count down.

Yes - that's my understanding too. With variable, the car starts with a considerably large mileage & time period to next service (~18k miles & 2 years worth of days I think) and these figures start decreasing far quicker than the actual miles driven or days passing, if you start revving engine hard, especially from cold, etc. Also, if you are doing a lot of stop-start journeys. However, the figures stay high and only count down in co-ordination with the days passing and the mileage you do, if you are driving steadily and do longer journeys.

 

For fixed service, I understand that the figures start at around 9500 miles & 365 days and these always count down strictly, irrespective of your driving style.
