2013 Citigo radio making clicks/bangs on Aux
Bit of an update on my problem:- Been out locally today and travelled about 10 miles in all. The bangs and clicks seem to have disappeared, at least for now! I've never had a traffic update through the RDS radio during the time I've had the Citigo, about 8 months now.his was dispite the TP function having been on until the other day when I switched it off. Only had the Aux selected whilst I was out and then suddenly out of nowhere I get a traffic announcement from BBC WM! Just came on and presenter detailed the holdups around the West Midlands area and stopped at the end. Don't know how it had happened but somehow the TP function had become active and actually worked. This was at the beginning of my journey so deselected TP once more and have not had any announcements breaking through since. My inclination now is that a bad contact between the dash, mount and PID affected the audio of the traffic announcements coming through. Thinking back to various times I recall having heard these noises I believe it has always been during the rush hour periods. Time will tell I guess!

I hope so too! Try as I did I couldn't find that MEN2 display on my unit, I've taken a look at the paperwork that came with the car and I have the original Radio operating instructions, my unit is apparenmtly the FUNKY version, most likely the bog standard RDS Radio/Cd unit factory fit.

2013 Citigo radio making clicks/bangs on Aux
Hi Varooom, Have tried repeatedly and no matter what I do with the radio I can't get anything displayed along the lines of "MEN2_EUSKGPx_P0101L"! 😕 Hi Massiv, I tried playing with the balance control the other day while driving locally and the clicks/bangs happen regardless of whether the balance is set to right, centre or left. It was probably the worse I've heard it ever on this occassion and I disconnected the PID(Navigon) from the mount and all the noises stopped immediately so I returned home. When parked up I popped the PID back on to it's mount and all the noises had gone. Had a good play around with the radio settings and then noticed that TP was highlighted in the top right of the display both on radio and Aux. I turned this off, I'm sure it makes the radio switch to local stations broadcasting Traffic updates and then switches back to your choosen station, I think it one of the features RDS offers. TP equals Traffic Program or Traffic Priority. As removing the PID from the mount and then putting it back seemed to stop the noises I also decided it could also be a dirty contact(s) on either the mount, Navigo or the dash connection. I burnished all of them with one of those nylon type scrubby things for dishes and then cleaned them up with some ISOPROPYL alcohol. Have put it all back in place and it's been fine since, though I haven't been for a descent drive yet. One thing also comes to mind. The battery on my PID stopped holding a decent charge some months back and I had left the PID and mount in the glove box until a few weeks ago when I got hold of a new battery and replaced it and started using the PID once again. Would have been around the time these noises started. Could be that a few months of no use is enough to cause a contact to become a problem. Will see how things go.

As you'll appreciate I have no access to the ODIS diagnostics and would likely need some help in locating an idenpendant to do this for me should I decide to go that route. Wouldn't want to approach a dealer as they just want has much of your cash as then can get out of you! I appreciate it could be a bad earth/connection but the noise I get is only there when I select Aux when the Navigon is in use and it seems very random. Would you have an idea exactly what process I would need to follow to get to the MEN2_EU_SKGPx display? As I say I don't find this particular radio easy to navigate through the menus.

2013 Citigo radio making clicks/bangs on Aux
Hi again Varoom. Well that was interesting! Just been outside and followed you directions. Found the following information displayed on the screen:- HW 567 SW 5541 1ST035156 now I can't remember what I did exactly but then had a screen display come up with the following information:- Test FM 100.7mhz NK:0 HF AT1 Q MP NK RDS Had no idea any of this information was available! Hopefully you can read and translate what this all means Varoom. I don't find the controls on these particular radios very intuitive and difficult to navigate my way through the menus, options and settings! Very appreciative of your help.

Thanks for your reply Varoom, Was totally unware there could be a software update for the car radio. I knew the Navigon could be firmware updated but not the radio's. Will give your instructions a try and come back if I can find something in those menus.

Thanks for the reply Massiv. At 175km your motor has covered a greater distance than mine, have only covered about half the distance your Citigo has covered (58k miles close to 100km). Impressed to see such high mileage and you being from a place with far more extremes of weather than we get here in the UK, shows that these small cars are basically very well made despite some problems they all seem to have. My hearing isn't the best and haven't been able to identify exactly which speaker they come from but it's the front though and had assumed it was from both siders. The noise I have isn't constant but totally random but it defenitely gets louder as the volume is turned up. Will try playing with the balance controls and see if that makes any difference. Being as our vehicles are from what must the first production runs it could be a common issue resolved later. Do you have a Navigon connected as I do? Convinced it has something to do with my Navigon or at least it's connection to the factory fit radio. This seems to have started recently for me, had the car since April and only nooticed these sounds a few weeks ago. Have wondered if it might be a bad connection somewhere behind the dash. Have looked at removing the radio to check but taking the radio out of the Citigo/Up isn't straight forward and more involved than other vehicles I've had. Another thing I wondered about is if the roof aerial could be at fault. Lots of vehicles now have antenna amps located near the base of the aerials and as the Navigon has a Traffic information system could the noises be generated by a interference from the amp if fitted.

2013 Citigo radio making clicks/bangs on Aux
Hi there, Have been a member here quite a few years now but haven't posted since my lads Fabia was sold. Purchased a used 2013 1.0lt Citigo with 58k on the clock earlier this year. Have been really happy with the vehicle overall, OK it has the usual noise from the gearbox but they all seem to have that. Anyway the vehicle came without the satnav so have purchased a used Navigon which after having the battery replaced and the latest update installed functions adequately, not great but does the job. Over the last few weeks have noticed that when I have Aux selected on the factory fit radio I'm getting random and intermittent "clicks" or "bangs" from the speakers whilst driving. I can best describe the sound as similar to when headphones are plug into a jack and the connection is made. If I select the FM radio I don't hear these noises. I don't usually have the radio on as if using the Navigon the directions don't come over clearly above the radio station playing. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with the audio system or the Navigon unit when connected?
