I took the view that while i am using my winters (dunlop SP winter sport 4d) I am not wearing out the standard tyres so the extra cost is just the set of steelies. And I have the bonus of excellent grip when its snowing or icey. After experiencing both I think I will allways try to have a set or winters for Nov to March.

winter mode engaged.... 2.5C out there right now!
bobjob49 replied to sharkrider's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Surely its a lot nicer on icey mornings to have the peace of mind you will have the grip in corners. Whats was the point of spending £??? on them if you don`t use them. I remember it used to be squeaky bum time without them when its zero C. -
Oops sorry for late reply. Its was through the CSMA (civil service motoring association) website. The deal said internet only price. I did not go to the dealer. I think maybe the csma have a speacial deal with carcare plan. Also got 13 months cover. I should have explained that you would need to be a member of the csma to get this price.

Why bother. They look like a vauxhall badge. I better put my tin hat on now.

I have a car careplan waranty. It was £180 for a fabia 1.6tdi cr. I got a cheaper online price. I am paying 10 x £18 monthly payments. Maybe you could expect the 1.4 vrs to be a bit more expensive but I would have thought a good chunk less than £400 a year.

Winter tyres and steel rims recommendations please?
bobjob49 replied to SeaGoat's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
My insurance company was the same so I got Dunlop SP Winter sport 2D 195 55 R15 with new steelies from the dealer. First time I had tried winters and was amazed at the grip on snow and ice. They seemed quieter than the contis too. I am on my 4th winter with them now. The only problem is not enough snow and ice. -
I have paid £20 a year for map updates on a tomtom that for about 5 years now so I thought the lifetime maps looks good. I looked at tomtom web site and this is what tomtom mean by lifetime. Lifetime – this is the useful life of the device, which means the period of time that TomTom continues to support your device with software updates, services, content or accessories. A device will have reached the end of its life when none of these are available any more. They do not say how long they deem this to be. Does not sound like 3 score and 10. Apologies to OP if I have gone off topic.

My first choice for an optional extra would be to extend the skoda waranty to 5 years/100k miles. This can only be bought when ordering a new car.

How long to replace EGR valve?
bobjob49 replied to harry vederci's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Totally agree with awfabia. I was not warned about the limitations of a modern diesel by the salesman and I doubt many people are. -

Sorry I should have been clearer. On another egr thread I commented that I had found 6 other people with fabia 1.6 cr egr failures with a quick search. I have only had one. I think though that car makers should ensure their cars are relible in all situations. If a component fails due to town driving it should have been found out in testing before the car was put on the market. -

Its on autotrader at £13700. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201409087215393/sort/default/model/fabia/keywords/scout/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/radius/1500/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/page/2/usedcars/fuel-type/diesel/postcode/hu52an/make/skoda/maximum-age/up_to_1_year_old?logcode=p No mention of its petrol trip. -
A quick search of this forum showed up 6 users who have had egr valves replaced on the 1.6 cr tdi. I think the GL2 engine is the same with a cylinder chopped off. It looks the same anyway. While not a massive problem there is certainley some evidence of a common problem here. Also I have read the following on Honest Johns review of the Fabia 2. "26-5-2013: Failure of Exhast Gas Recirculation Valve reported every 15k - 20k miles on 35k mile Fabia TDI." I think Skoda UK should put a longer warranty on this part, maybe 10 years. If theres no problem it would not cost them a penny.

Its a 1395cc engine so a vrs?. Cutesy of the .gov vehicle tax and mot status enquiry site. Seems like an invaision of privacy but useful if your shopping for used cars and want to know how much mot & tax is left.

Mine failed and was replaced under warranty. Mechanic told me it is a big job and burried around the back of the engine bay. Lots of stuff to remove he said. These cars just do not work as a town car. VAG should be sued for making an engine thats not fit for purpose or guarantee egr replacements for 15 years.

This is joke right? Get a new black skoda badge then people will think its a vauxhal.
-
you can only get the extended skoda warranty as an optional extra when buying new. You cannot get this after buying. The one skoda dealers are selling are car care plan. "Please note that an extended warranty is only available on new vehicles at the time of ordering." http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/warranty/extended-warranty/reasons-to-extend-your-cover

Before spending money I would check your car insurance is still OK with a different wheel tyre combination.

fabia 1.6 tdi from fixed to variable service advice
bobjob49 replied to firefox2's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Would not getting serviced every 10k or 12 months (which ever is soonest) void the manufactuers 3 year / 60k warranty. I presume you are under 3 years old with 9.5k miles. -

My mpg dropped when I had a failed lamda sensor. Did not notice any rev limit though. -
