  1. Cheers James - really appreciate your insight. The car is at the garage and they are looking at the wiring harness etc. Hopefully it's as straightforward as that.
  2. Garage NOT garbage - predictive text strikes again........
  3. Cheers mike4scuba - really appreciate the advice because it's doing my head in. Going back into the garbage for further checks on Wednesday so this will be looked at.
  4. Looking for some help with a reoccurring fault code on my 2010 Octavia vRS diesel. Fault Code P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1. EML has come on three separate times - with no obvious effect to car's performance - and my local independent has cleared the code accordingly all for the same fault as above. First two times was to check whether it would go away (because no issues with car itself) and the last time resulted in a new Oxygen Sensor being fitted. The new oxygen sensor resulted in a trouble-free fortnight along with a further 1k miles on the odometer but the dreaded EML appeared yesterday after a straight 135 mile run - stop at services for 30 mins - started the car again and the EML stayed on. My independent has checked for fault codes again and it's the same code as above?? Can someone shed some light on what to look for or what the issue is?? Really appreciate any assistance or guidance on this. I appreciate the oxygen sensor may have been replaced for no reason but I don't want to spend any more unnecessary cash if I can help it.

  6. I've got a OEM dog guard sitting gathering dust in my garage - came out of my 2010 vRS. Still got the car but no longer the large dog unfortunately. If you want to make me any offer but on the condition you pick it up so I can free up some space in my garage then you can have it. Based just outside Cardiff.
  7. Very true! Pity my cold-hearted approach didn't apply to the Mazda. But like you a change in circumstance meant that I didn't need another large(ish) diesel car and I hadn't had a two seater since my 1990 Toyota MR2 GT T-Bar. So why not?? In this instance totally different type of car for a different set of circumstance. If my circumstances were the same and I needed a load-lugger then I wouldn't swap my MKIII for a MKIII...............
  8. The responses you've had so far are based on cold-hearted facts and figures with no emotional attachment to the decision. In reality this is how you need to approach this if you can - it's certainly what I did. Ask yourself the question - Is this car going to give me a significantly better experience for significantly more money?? The fact you are questioning it already suggests you've already got your answer but on the flip-side whenever was a car purchase not tinged (to varying degrees) with emotional attachment?? If you still intend looking get a price from Drive the Deal. I got a much, much better deal on my Mazda via DTD than carwow.
  9. This is a topic I discussed on a thread about a year ago - was the MKIII a significant upgrade on the MKII to justify the extra cost?? - IMHO the answers still remains an emphatic no. As I previously commented a year ago, the MKII FL vRS was the last Skoda to hit the right balance of good product/competitive pricing. Still got mine, admittedly toyed with selling it but will now keep it to the bitter end. Done 102k since new in 2010 when bought VAT free!!!! Can't see Skoda doing that again. She's looked after really well and serviced every 10k!!! Skoda have shifted their cross-hairs on a different target market and are no longer the value proposition they once were so I won't be buying the MKIII at what would be £27k+ based on a similar spec as my MKII. Also I don't need another load-lugger so I decided to spend considerably less of my hard-earned cash on a new Mazda MX-5 Sport Recaro.
  10. I've had a full set of Winguard Sports on since late-Nov and I can fully recommend them. Ok the temperature hasnt been particularly low but the wet weather along with surface water has seen them tested regularly. Did a 400 mile trip from Glasgow in early December when we'd had all the initial flooding in Cumbri and they were really confidence inspiring on the wet & windy M6.
  11. Best money I've ever spent on a car. Done 60k miles with it mapped and no trouble at all. As previously stated - it transforms the car......
  12. Well I'll be keeping my money pit - only thing is cost me outside of the normal servicing routine is a failed turbo actuator - and I'll report back when it's done 150k & 200k (fingers crossed) trouble-free miles on its nasty, nasty DSG gearbox. I'm aware of the complexity and potential cost of a failed DSG that's why the DSG oil service is done without fail every 30k. Like everything in life it's horses for courses but I wouldn't be without an auto for the daily grind. Sitting in stop-start traffic week in, week out (which doesn't escape any of us) changing gear in a manual is so last season and a complete pain in the a*s!!!
  13. Pre-FL or FL?? If it's FL with DRL's I would be looking to pay absolute tops £8.5k. I had my 2010 vRS DSG estate on Autotrader for 6 weeks in July started at £8295, dropped it to £7995 & then finally £7795. Only went it hit £7795 did I get enquires - grand total of 2. And this was before the VW emissions scandal broke. Admittedly it had done 92k but trust me it is a 'good un' based on the servicing regime and money I've spent on it. Without question it'll be in better condition than some cars with 50k on them. Therein lies the consideration for you - do you solely focus on mileage (and let's be honest if your talking about a diesel car that's six years old having done an average below 10k per annum has it been run properly?) or do you focus on condition?? Best of luck with your search.
