  1. So, last night Gti Jazz Blue ran VCDS for me on my Octy (thanks for that!) and coded my Columbus in and changed a few settings that I can't do myself due to no Maxi Dot. Anyhow, during the initial scan, and again after clearing the faults the following error was observed: We believe that this is to do with a pump that cools the turbo after the ignition has been turned off and I'm obviously going to take it to a dealer to get checked out. However, before I hand over wodges of cash, the message infers that maybe it's as simple as a relay/fuse gone, perhaps? Anyone know where I might find the right relay or fuse? I checked the fuse schematic in the owner's manual and nothing leaped out at me, and it has nothing at all to say about relays. I'd like to at least try changing it for the few quid it will cost before the hassle of leaving it with a dealer for the day. Oh, and before anyone points it out, I did check the Ross Tech fault codes Wiki. This particular code is not listed, unfortunately. Thanks in advance.
  2. My old Accord used to cut power to the wheels if they spun. Really not useful when trying to move away on ice - even with the foot flat to the floor nothing happened at all. Luckily you could turn it off.
  3. Definitely quarter turn as I did my Octy ones last night. Could not work out how to remove the cables, though, so had to do it with the cluster upside down on my knees...
  4. Hmmm... May have to move the antenna... Not getting a great fix. However, it did at least show me just how good the dead reckoning was - the map was correctly following me for a good couple of minutes through my housing estate with no GPS fix. Impressed.
  5. If my trim had been something like matte black, it would have been a few quid. As it's some kind of cross-hatched silver effect that is apparently a licence for Skoda to print money...
  6. I know I'm hardly the first, but I've just replaced my Bolero with a Columbus in my 2010 Octy and am well chuffed! Got the Columbus for £400 + £14 next day delivery from eBay, plus new fascia trim for £56 from Skoda. The Columbus was second hand but it's the LED model with a manufacture date of Oct 2012! The whole install took about 30 minutes, including removing the top box and vents so that I could get the antenna in (stuck magnetically to a piece of steel to the side of the vents). And I've never done anything like this before. Only tools I needed were a T20 Torx driver and a couple of bicycle tyre levers. The hardest part was actually removing the quad lock from the back as there was precious little spare cable. It took about 5 minutes of driving for the compass to orientate itself correctly but it's all working perfectly now. Very very happy. Climate and OPS all worked straight off. Just got to code it now. So, anyone else thinking of doing this, I must say it was well worth it (well, unless the eBay seller comes along and nicks it off me again...)
  7. Ooh, I also like the bulge on the bonnet that, from the drivers seat, lets you imagine you're driving an American muscle car... Oh, just me then...?
  8. The humungeous boot that allowed me to move from an estate to an Octy hatchback The 1.8 TSI engine. Not much slower than the VRS, yet totally stealth The DSG box Sport mode on the DSG box - totally transforms the way the car accelerates.
  9. Paul... You are a gentleman! I phoned Sparshatts and they wanted £48 to code it... I'm going to have to pay the £25 they want to get the Bolero code for me, so it would be good not to have to pay them more than absolutely necessary. If you don't mind I'll PM you when I get the Columbus in (still waiting for it to be delivered. Tracking says it left the depot at 05:47 this morning!)
  10. Oh, and I've heard on here that second-hand clusters are much harder to code for your car than if you buy a brand new one. Just something to consider if you're going to the scrappies.
  11. I had a reply from Skoda Teile about a different part a couple of days back so Ales is definitely there.
  12. Consider the economics of diesel vs petrol for purchase price vs economy. I picked up a 2010 1.8TSI DSG Elegance at the weekend for £7699. 58k on the clock, but even so I reckon my additional fuel bill over the 4 years I'll have it won't approach an extra £5k.
  13. Thanks all! You have been so very helpful. The Columbus arrives today so now it's just a matter of deciding whether I can wait until the weekend to fit it!!
  14. Thanks jrw! Does the OPS and climate work straight off the bat on the Columbus? My car is only 10 days older than yours, so if it all workd in yours then it should in mine.
  15. Afraid not. Mine is a 2010 facelift. I believe they only became standard in MY2011. However, my manual has them in, so I assume there was an option for my MY. I have an open issue with Skoda UK on this at the moment. A very nice man from customer services is going to talk to their technical dept to see whether they are retro-fittable as apparently this is not the first time they have been asked the question. I should imagine that the points are actually there in my seat and it's just a matter of changing the back panel. We shall see. With regards to the PDF posted, yes that seems to say that the MKII Skoda doesn't need a top tether. However, their "fit finder" on the website says that MKII FL does need a top tether. Which is wierd, because I was pretty sure that the rear seats didn't change at all in the FL.
