  3. thanks thats kind of you, I can drive to you no probs - maybe we can plug it in and find out what that fault is please, I can change abs sensor easily but need to know what the issue is. I can sort you some cash for helping me out, my number is 07423 166 493. thank you
  4. thanks, I admire the passion you bring to this post, can you lend me your VCDS please?
  5. what a great forum thanks for all the responses the car is a shed worth nothing, its battered and the door wont open as the cable has slipped out of the handle - i am kind of hoping it will just die so i can get a new one but at 141k its still going so now i cant really sell it as its too battered and has too many faults and living with it is not pleasant and now illegal due to no M.O.T - just want to get it legal with minimum time/money spent - dont want to pour money into it, whats the cheapest way to sort this please?
  6. Hi, can the ABS light be removed ? - my car is out of M.O.T and I cant MOT it because it will fail on the ABS light being on, is it just a bulb behind the dash? Thanks
  7. Hi, I need the timing belt changed on my 98 Octavia. I am based in Sutton, South London and looking for a mechanic to do this work for me - the car only cost 700 quid so not looking to go to a main dealer for this work. Please let me know if you cab help - 0208 722 0355 Thanks
  8. hi, thanks mate I havent looked at that yet - what a hassle! , I will take a look tonight, thanks v much
  9. Hi, sorry to post up - I did search but cant find the exact answer. I have a 98 octavia and I cant get in to it - all the doors open fine except the drivers door, it does not have remote locking on the key fob. I can open the drivers door from the inside but not from the outside, all other doors lock and function fine. Clearly something has broken inside my drivers door, I thought it was a cable so I bought a cable and pulled off the door card but inside the door I cannot see any obvious snapped or lose cables. I dont want to waste any more money on parts I dont need, does anyone know which part I need to order please? Thanks Rob
  10. thanks, its going to be 250 quid to have it done around here (south london), I just dont have the funds right now and at 132k I am driving a time bomb - need to get it sorted asap, cant be that hard, just needs some guides.
  11. Hi there, So I bought a 98 tdi estate in Postman Pat Red, I bought it in a rush and I got the first one I saw as I had no transport to view loads of cars while shopping. the AA looked at it over the weekend, he says I need to change the cam/timing belt asap as it looks to be in a poor state - service history shows no change of belt ever being done and the current mileage is 132k I cant afford dealer servicing, I have purchased the cam belt kit and what I really need now is some instructions on how to fit it please, there are some great videos online but all for other VAG model cars that seem to have slightly different engines - my car has the airbox on the left and I cant see another video online for a tdi that is the same. Anyone got any instructions please?? So far I am loving the fuel economy but not loving the fact that the Car also now wont open from the outside (drivers door only opens from the inside now) snapped cable?? I bought the cable today, went to shops today quite embarrassing using a piece of string to get into the car - this needs sorting urgently ! Also hit a pheasant yesterday and smashed the front bumper and put petrol in it instead of diesel by mistake yesterday - cost me 250 quid to get AA to drain it so no cash for cambelt change hence the DIY situation. As you can tell in not the sharpest tool in the box but I reckon I can follow instructions or a video on how to change the timing belt, please help me out. Thanks
  12. ok thanks everyone, just ordered a 75 ah battery - hopefully that will be the end of my woes. cheers
