  1. Funny old thing fuel use. I had my first 1.2 petrol, 4 years ago. I was not expecting miracles, but it was Ok. I was driving 400 miles to work and back every weekend. I then ran into an elk. Elk dead, car seriously injured. A small digression. My really expensive sun glasses were in the little folder near the mirror. The middle of the roof, was most of the way down to the dash, and glasses were folded in half. I wrote to Skoda saying how even then, the doors still worked. Hardly a straight panel on the car! Skoda kindly sent me a brand new pair. Very kind. I was then "given" , a brand new 1,2. LIke chalk and cheese. Quieter, smoother, and more MPG. So quiet in fact, I found my self flat out in 3rd, thinking it was 5th, on a few occasions. Fuel is amazing. I fill it up, 40 litres, and know have 900 kms to go. If I put on the air con I can see the consumption go up. If I drive manually, it gets better. I usually drive with cruise control. So my average is better than 55MPG. I know if i drive carefully i can get a lot more, but frankly, spending 6 or 7 hours driving on Friday evening, is not conducive to taking it easy. Skoda's certainly do it for me.
  2. I just had to comment ref water and squeaky wipers. I have a friend who used to get hold of bottles of the silicon used in commercial copiers. He used to recommend wiping the glass from time to time with a splash of copy fluid. I started to add a big thimblefuls worth to the washer bottle, with water and wash fluid. It is amazing. the water just vanishes. The wipers are silent for hours of non washing. Just add the odd splash of fluid from time to time. The side windows i wipe about twice a year with a splash of fluid on a rag. Search around your copiers and nick a bottle of silicon!
  3. I think the Swedish RS TDI has a 5 speed. Which is why this is a bit different. 6 speed. But top no good under about 120Kmh. She has spent many hours charting her fuel consumption, and now gets between , 4 and 5 litres, every 100 k's..She just told me her record is 3.9/100 over 500 Km trip. Here apic of a V logo on filthy Fin car . Sill plates
  4. SECCY You are so right. I must share a name with the 60's power supply manufacturer. Wayne Kerr! Her car is a VRS. I hardly ever see it. We usually drive around in my Mercedes TDI. I guess i was confused. I may also have ben thinking of another lower spec Skoda, sold in Sweden, that is the RS TDi. I think it is more or less the same as the VRS, but shorter. You can fit a tow bar to the RS, but not to the V as the rear bumper is too long. So that is clear now. For me at least. Sorry about that My original query was about the rarity. I cannot recall seeing another in Sweden or Finland. Nor in the Scandanavian version of Auto Trader. It has the 1.9 , 131HP diesel. 6 speed box, huge wide tyres, and big green calipers, on 285 discs. So, how rare are they. Looking on here, there appear to be quite a lot in the UK. But the total population of these 2 countries, added togehter is 10Million plus-. And most folk are just dying to own a volvo.
  5. live in Sweden. Woman lives in Finland. In 2006, I bought her a 2004 Fabia Vri. There were VRS at this time, but he VRi model looked better. It had the bigger bumpers so it fitted the rally spec length requirements. Still a 1.9 diesel, with big 205/45 R16 tyres and a 6 speed box. The exchange rate Sek to euro made it very cheap in Sweden. I mentioned this car to my service tech, when I took my 1.2 Fabia in, and he was drooling. Now, many years later, we are going to get rid of both of them, but I have no idea of the VRi price. I know it is rare. Not seen one for sale for ages. Maybe 6 years. But I do know a little ref classic cars. I did once own an Austin Healy 100/4. . It appears the Vri is also like hens teeth. So I do not want to give it away. Swedish and Finnish car dealers make UK ones look like charities. Go to buy a new car, you get offered top price, and that is it. They seem very happy to let you walk away. Discount for cash? Dream on. So trusting these to give me a price would be really silly. May as well give them my bank codes. It is high mileage. 120 thou. I could say 1 little old lady owner, but some times she frightens me. Am I correct in my feeling this is a rare car? Or is it just a 1.9 turbo diesel with high mileage. Bright red and well serviced. I can get a few pics in daylight . Now it is 15 below so pics can wait.
