  1. many thanks @kenfowler3966ken fowler and @RickT ken, do you know which years have the upgraded timing chain please?
  2. hello were presently having gearbox difficulties with our fabia 2 1.6 tiptronic which will necessitate a change of car. looking round there isn't really anything which stands out. so, im thinking of purchasing a second hand yeti. (other than the gearbox the fabia has been very reliable (112,000 miles, 12 years old)) petrol engine. im unsure about choosing a dsg example due to the large amount of problems they seem to give. perhaps it would be safer to buy a manual? also, is the 1.2 underpowered? any advice on which models to look for would be really appreciated. many thanks
  3. thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated
  4. many thanks for your replies. i have an update and would like your thoughts please. i took the car to our local skoda dealership (who have serviced the care from new and have been really helpful, now and in the past) and the fault came up as a sensor/wiring error. he rang the contacts he has (numerous, in his words) and could only find 2 other instances of this happening. he said he could fit a new sensor and it might work ("a million to one chance") but it would cost around £150. a new gearbox would be around £1800. as i mentioned above the car has done just over 112,000 miles but its been serviced every year and runs great other than the gearbox. your help and advice would be much appreciated. many thanks
  5. wow, thanks ken, ill mention it to the skoda garage
  6. thanks again for taking the time to reply, i just remembered that the mechanic said it was a valve body issue
  7. thanks tech1e, my local skoda garage has told me in the past that our gearbox (Aisin Warner 6-speed torque converter automatic) is a sealed unit. how could it be serviced?
  8. we have a skoda fabia 2 1.6 16v 105bhp tiptronic with an Aisin Warner 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. we have owned it since new (july 2007) and it has been very reliable, it has now passed 112,000 miles. it has been dealer serviced every year. alas the gearbox is on its way out, we have a warning light and the local skoda garage says we need a new auto box. the cost of a replacement is £2,300. we are in a dilemma, do we repair or get a new car? we'd probably get a second hand honda or kia but really buying a car and driving it away could cost us £2,000 in depreciation! on the other hand now the gearbox is failing, does that mean the car is on its way out so not worth spending such a sum on it... any advice would be gratefully received.
  9. mines in a really poor condition too, 2007 fabia 2, must be substandard parts in my opinion, shame because the rest of the car is really good
  10. we have had a fabia 2 1.6 auto from new (purchased in 2007) our steering wheel is in terrible shape, really worn for some reason. does anyone know where to source a new wheel from? our car has been fantastic for all its life (now 108,000 miles) and we would like to keep it for a few more years, a new steering wheel would be a huge improvement. many thanks
  11. The car feels very powerful. But being a Skoda driver i mostly like to potter about. In fact i was thinking of getting a "the closer you get, the slower i go" window sticker made as most people seem to follow about 5 feet behind my bumper whilst i stick to the speed limits. I must confess, i have NEVER put any oil into the car. I (maybe mistakenly) think that if the oil was low i would get a warning light on and then obviously top up, i have never had a need to top up. As i mentioned in my OP, we always get the car dealer serviced once a year, they change the oil when they see fit so i'm afraid i can't help. Do you have a local Skoda dealership? i'm sure they would help you find out what oil is good. Hope you enjoy your new Skoda as much as we have, it really is a great car. I guess coming up for 6 years old it is time we thought about changing it but to be honest, it drives as good as the day we picked it up.
  12. Hello Thank you for your reply and your welcome to the site. Thankfully the problem was cheaply fixed... We love the Fabia 2. It hasn't been much trouble at all and coming up for 6 years old, just replacement of a front wheel barring is all it has cost us, apart from the dealer servicing. Regarding the MPG. Truthfully it isn't great. Living in London and doing a lot of short millage doesn't help of course we average about 30-35. On longer runs it can be up to 42ish, once i managed 50MPG on a slow trip to Essex. It is quite a big engine of course (1.6). It is a really great car to drive and doesn't seem to show much lag in setting off, the connivance of not having to change gear every 5 seconds more than makes up for the extra fuel cost. Any other questions let me know. All the best Mark
  13. Been to the Skoda dealer Elmiside at Elmers End this afternoon. The problem was caused by both brake lights blowing. Bulbs changed and fault cleared. They said It is a common problem.
  14. Could anyone kindly advise. Since yesterday the EPC and TCS lights have been on. My model is a Skoda Fabia 2 1.6 Petrol DSG version, bought and owned from new in June 2007. The car has just over 53,000 miles on the clock. We have always serviced it at the local Skoda dealership. I have noticed that several cars in the VG group have suffered from ESP problems, would this model be using the same parts? I would appreciate any help/advice forum members could offer. I will take the car to the dealership on Monday, if anyone has had a similar issue it would be good to know. The car has run trouble free since new. Thank you
