  5. this cars just 'bongs' a bit toooo much for my liking. I KNOW when I don't have the seat belt on. I KNOW when the fuel gets low. I KNOW when it is getting a chilly outside. I DON'T NEED BIG BEN TO TELL ME THIS TOO ! Sorry - taken a chill pill now, I'm OK guys
  6. To fix the problem of brake and clutch pedal being too high off the floor, I simply stuffed several thicknesses of corrugated cardboard under the floor mat :( Works a treat ! Oh and I changed to a Recaro 'Style' seat for the driver as well (but that's a whole other story........)
  7. Total price £540 inc fitting, geo set-up and VAT Nb. retained OEM springs
  8. UPDATE Well, I have to say the car is totally transformed. Just got back from a brisk drive to fully check out the results of yesterdays suspension upgrade at Awesome-GTI and I am really chuffed at the results of the Koni FSDs all round on the VRS estate. The characteristics are a firm (not hard) but very well controlled ride that absorbs small road imperfections brilliantly and makes for a much more comfortable drive. It really does give the driver a great deal of confidence in the car which was previously missing in the jittery ride of the standard dampers (which are apparently too soft for standard springs). This is the handling characteristics the VRS should have had - Skoda take note :irked: 2 other side benefits to this ; Take off from standstill is a lot better at putting the power down and also the creaking front suspension is completely silent ! :hooray: Octavia VRS estate owners - this is one 'must-have' modification. Have to say a BIG thanks to Dean, Mark, Sarah and all the team at Awesome-GTI who did a terrific job - a professional/thorough approach with very knowledgeable and courteous staff manning the phone lines. This is one very PS Thanks to Bahnstormer and all other Briskodians who helped convert me !
  9. I am sure Bahnstormer will be a long soon to tell. I met up to try his one out and was very impressed with the comfort - same seat as those in my old Audi S3. Best seats I've ever sat in. As a result, I have the same Recaro 'Style' model in build at the factory right now. Expecting delivery anytime soon. Mine will be black alcanatra centre and black leather bolsters. Can't wait to get it fitted - never did get used to the OEM VRS seats digging into right thigh Edited to addRecaro offer sub-frames to fit Octy II VRS but (for the 'Style' model) the fitter will need to order/fit a dummy resistor to convince the car it still has a side air-bag fitted as this model does not have side air-bag but IS electrically adjustable as standard so will need wiring into car's electrics too.
  10. yup, keeping the OEM springs and 17" wheels for (some degree of) comfort.
  11. Right, car now booked in to Awsome-GTI on Friday for Koni FSD's all round I'll let you know how I get on. Russell
  12. As my insurance is due for renewal in the next few weeks, I thought I'd ask that very nice Mr. Directline what affect these potential mods may have on my premium ; Koni FSD's only - no premium change FSD's + Eibachs (lowered) - plus extra £90 per year premium
  13. Sarah from Awesome gave us an update earlier today Re. FSD for Ocy estate in my other post ; So looks like good news
  14. After my other thread here ; http://www.briskoda.net/forums/awesome-gti/koni-fsd-s-octy-ii-vrs-estate/98063/ it rather got me thinking about the effects of lowered suspension on ride quality. I'm running standard 17" wheels and looking really to just smooth out the jittery ride on my VRS estate, so ride quality/comfort is more important to me than outright performance, although lowering would certainly help with loading the boot with heavy gear. Does anyone here have lowered Eibachs or similar on their VRS estate ? How does it affect the ride quality ? May be interested meeting up with someone if Midlands based to see what they are like before taking the plunge :shy: Cheers, Russell
  15. I have the same problem. Several times I've bashed my knee on the steering column when quickly moving to the brake pedal. I am concerned what would happen in the event of a front-end collision - crushed knee-caps maybe ? I've come round to the conclusion that the whole driving position in the Octavia is not well suited for me - I am only average height/weight/build. Brake and clutch pedals are too high off the floor, brake to throttle drop is too great. I can't sit far enough away to stop bashing my knee on the steering column without being unable to fully engage 1st gear. Oh and don't get me started on the right side seat-bolster digging into my leg Still at least the proper Recaro seat I've got on order will fix the last problem. Ho, hum BTW really enjoying the pace, space and slick gearbox in the VRS Shooting Brake Would I change it for anything else ? Hell, no !
  16. Well I've had my VRS for just a week and I find the brakes not very progressive at all. You only have to breath on the pedal to get self-induced whiplash  but after the inital bite, there's no great retardation of the car as I nearly found out to my cost today. Anybody tried fitting Mintex 1144 pads on a VRSII ?
  17. Thanks for the info Stu. Looks like a (first) visit to my local dealer is called for. I some how thought the car might last longer than a week before breaking on me :(
  18. Airbag warning light came on continuously after starting up today. Don't know if this is a co-incidence but..... could this be related to me changing all the headlight bulbs last night ? Attempted to remove the headlamp unit (remove knurled **** and released the catch) but could not manage to remove units from the car, so changed lamps in situ. Don't know if I managed to dislodge a sensor at the front of the car or something. Any thoughts ? Russell
  19. Just thought I'd drop by to say :wave23d: I've been lurking on this forum for some time just waiting for the 'right' used deal to come along and found it on Friday. Collection is tomorrow, so can't wait :jumpsmile It's a TFSI estate with xenons, curtain air-bags and rear parking sensors. Thought I'd stick with 17" wheels as I wasn't so happy with previous test drives using 18's I've owned quite a few performance cars in the past (Clio 16V, Impreza Turbo 5-door, Audi S3, VX220 Turbo) but now needed something with space AND pace. I think we'll get on just fine me and my new Octy. Just hope it proves as reliable as my last car. Probably be posting a few more questions over the coming weeks, so look out for me TTFN Russell
  20. I'm not (yet) aVRS estate owner but I have test driven a TFSI hatch and estate both had 18" wheels. On both drives I did notice a tendancy to torquesteer a little overtaking slower cars when booting it over the centre line of the road. I haven't yet tested on std 17's to see if there are any improvements. Can any owners comment on this ? BTW The VXT is a great car - had one myself for 18months and miss it loads. Just don't expect the same level of driver involvement in the VRS as the VXT Russell
  21. Sorted ! Got dims from LeighB in Octavia community. Thanks for your replies guys
  22. Thanks LeighB - just what I wanted to hear ! All my gubbins may JUST fit Looks like I needs to get me a test drive Watch this space
  23. Hi guys, can anyone help me with some measurements ? http://www.briskoda.net/forums/first-time-visitors-say-hello-here/i-need-favour/65689/ Don't shoot me, I'm new to these parts Russell
  24. Hi all, I am considering a new Octavia VRS estate as I need space with pace But I need to know a couple of dimensions that are not in the online dimensions/brochures. Can somone with an Octavia estate (I assume they are all the same, right ?) take a tape measure and let me know ; 1) the height of the tailgate opening from the boot floor 2) tallest point from boot floor to roof lining in the load area 3) width of the load area at the narrowest point ie. between wheel arches I play drums in my spare time and I have a frame that is 34 inches high that I need to fit in the car upright behind the rear seats. Be grateful if anyone could help. Cheers, Russell
