  1. Hmmmm that sounds interesting ref the silencer. It's deffo not the air pressure thing. It's too loud, at first I thought it was something lose in the boot, but its not. I shall have to book it in to skoda, hopefully I can wangle a curtesy car as well :-S Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. Hi all, just a quick one.... I'm getting an intermittent clunking when I go over bumps, pot holes etc. I've been underneath the car on a ramp, and everything looks perfect (still new even) The sound sound like its bottoming out. It's not all the time though, that's what's doing my head in. Sometimes it can go a day without doing it, and then it will! Also it sounds like its coming from the rear n/s It's doing my head in, and I don't want to take it to skoda for them not to find anything and say nothing's wrong! Anyone got any thoughts? It's a monte 1.6tdi btw :-) Cheers :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  4. i second that, its the best thing ive ever done! Sharks the place to go too! my monte is running at 133bhp, i cant remember what the torque figure is but its added over a 3rd more. Driving wise, its as nice and subtle until you hit the sweet spot at 2200 ish revs and then it roars into life, throwing you back into your seat. Ive drove my mates mk1 standard diesel vrs today and its nowhere as quick as mine (and if it is it really does not feel it!) Even he said "F**k me, this is quicker then mine" which made me smile massively Im a happy bunny :-) and all for the bargain price of £400!
  5. Well if you fell in love with a mk1 vrs, then why not buy the monte and get it remapped? I bought a 75bhp one had it remapped by shark to 133bhp, and it goes like stink. its the same power as the mk1 vrs, but is alot lighter so will be a tad quicker. Also its 20 quid a year to tax, does 50mpg, it is cheaper to buy like for like, its more reliable (sorry vrs fans lol) and imo looks better (dark lights, grill etc) If your just wanting performance though, and you want something quicker performance wise, its the vRS also, driving a petrol and diesel feel totally different in there power delivery, so make sure you test drive both, but make sure when you do drive the monte you know you can get ALOT more from it when you have it remapped....It will blow your socks off if you like the vrs mk1 :-)
  6. i never said it was as fast, i was just saying in real world driving it would feel as fast, handle the same due to shared suspension and chassis set up, look identical (if not better imo due to smoked lights, black grill etc) AND be far far cheaper to run, all for 400 quid on top of a 75bhp 1.6 CR Monte Carlo price tag....cheers shark :-D.....nuff said lol.
  7. i looked into this, but as said, you need new hubs, then you have to start chopping brake pipes, working out PSI's as drums operate with a totally different pressure, retro fitting new handbrake mechanics etc etc....so its possible, but a hell of a lot of work and for the driving i do, rear drums are fine imo. They are quite tatty though, as i dont think they age very well, and as there silver, there quite visable behind the dark alloy wheel so as soon as the weather cheers its self up im going to paint them to match the car. also worth thinking about is that the monte carlo is 1144kg and the old vRS was 1315kg...... Thats a difference of 2 grown adults and 1 child! So this must have an adverse effect on the 0-60 time?
  8. no he really did, the vrs does the 0-62 sprint in 7.3 seconds the monte 105bhp does it in 10.2, mines remapped to 133 on sharks dyno with masses of increased torque, so you can knock at least a second off it maybe 2 which means in a line to 60, its not far behind (on the clock) and imo with no clock, it would surely feel as fast? So what the skoda guy was saying, imo is right? either way, if im a second and a half behind a vrs, doing 55mpg, paying £205 a year fully comp and paying £20 a year road tax im happy :-) But i still have a dirty diesel with no race heritage when i think about it hard enough lol.
  9. Some people say, it shares it here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/266754-monte-carlo-sports-suspension/ just got to read down a little.
  10. well the service guy at skoda told me it shares all the same suspension, mountings etc, i think the rides great on the monte, but i also got told that some of the components of the suspension were changed from 2011 onwards on the monte, so some are pre and post suspension change :-S When i test drove both (over speedbumps going out, and around round abouts) i couldnt tell the difference between the 2 so it backed up what the skoda guy said.
  11. All i can say is my gains (from a 75bhp unit) is amazing. Its nice and relaxed until about 2k revs and then the pull is silky smooth but more then enough to push you into your seat. my mpg gain has gone up about 5 mpg average as well, which im well chuffed about, and to be fair, ive not tried to drive sensible! Ive just waited for the engine to reach temp and had a little sprint (where its safe to do so) i never drove the 105bhp engine, so they were a fair bit nippyer then mine in the first place, but now.....Well its just a different car altogether! I know people rave about the vRS on here and slag off the monte, but in honesty i bought the monte over the vRS for a number of reasons, mainly due to it being manual and not DSG (kinda takes the fun out of driving imo). The sales guy at skoda also told me to get the monte over the vRS due to running costs etc, and said just get a remap it will go just as well....and i think he was right! Fairplay the vRS has 47 more bhp.....but for the town driving i do, and country roads etc i would say there evenly matched on driving enjoyment and "zippyness" plus its nice to get a constant 50mpg instead of about 30mpg. Suspension is the same, styling is identical, insurance is cheaper on the monte, and its £20 a year to tax......... Not a hard choice in my book, and now its been mapped......well........Its a little rocket. yeah it might not be as fast as the vRS's, or have its badge but it gives it a good run for its money now.....and all for £400......BARGAIN! :-D
  12. Wish this snow would go away so i could give it a blast on some country roads. Insurance wise, it dont really effect me, Im an advanced driver, 8 years NC discount, over 25, etc etc so its increased about 13 quid for the year.....
  13. Just got the car back, and WHOOOO What a massive massive difference. It is truly like a different car, The pulling power is amazing as compared to before, and the acceleration is amazing....I can now overtake crappy zetec S's :-) Sharp performance did an amazing job, and i cant recommend them enough. Best £400 ive spent.
  14. Hi all, Just to let you know, my Monte is in for the FIRST PUBLIC remap today at Shark. Im so excited i could wee glitter. Mine is the 75bhp model which means its BHP will be nearly doubled! I will let you all know how it goes, P.S The shark guys are top blokes who know there stuff!
