  1. Hi After the 2005 superb 2.5tdi auto running well for the last 3 years, it has finally given up due to excessive water damage when i was on holiday. Needs convenience ecu, gearbox ecu, central locking is all over the place and lots of mould! After much hesitation i have decided to let it go to the breakers. However i have found another superb 2.5tdi on an 2006 plate which needs a fuel pump to get it back on the road. Bearing in mind that i got my pump brand new, would there be chance i could transfer it over to the other car? of-course code it after. your views will be much appreciated. thanks!
  2. Interesting bit, was,in euro car parts 2 days ago and purchased this bottle of cata clean, put it in with 15 litres of fuel and gave the car a bit of thrashing. Result is mpg is now at 35.2 mpg mixed driving and smoke has reduced. Crc the mpg is off the setting 2. I'm thinking whether its worth going for revo stage 1 remap. They do a trial for 5 hours as well.
  3. I agree, gearboxes are nowhere near to being matched plus the awkward converter lock In on 3rd gear makes it annoying at times and makes me think I have a 6th gear which it doesn't. I would add the heavy engine does make the handling suffer on bends but at the same time,is fantastic on rough roads and eats all the potholes you find in the roads these days. What is your view on an economy remap for this car
  4. I completely agree with you, but as i said I was just expressing my own views on this one!, the reason i did buy a 2.5tdi v6 was because my cousin owned a 52 plate one a few years ago and driving that was a pleasure. But for the some reason the one I have simply does not match up to it & and makes me regret selling my cvt 1.9tdi. (yes i know the word cvt may just open up another thread) As for buying new cars, Iam not in a position to afford it which is why i went for a used one. But yea point well taken where i have been sold a lemon but it all comes to the same point, its put me off this particular engine on the whole. The other aspect being, this tiptronic under engineered over revving auto box. Would be fantastic in a 1.9 tdi but the person who decided to give it to the 2.5tdi probably was in a hurry to get back home as it was a Friday afternoon engineering. I look forward to seeing you people at the annual meet where your more than welcome to drive mine and give your reviews on it! Last but not the least I do want to add this, Had it not been for you guys on this forum helping me out at each step to get this car driving, i would have scrapped the thing in March itself. So Cheers for that.
  5. I own the same 2.5tdi v6 as you all know from my last thread, even after pouring money down its throat, new vp44 pump timing water pump service etc etc, still trying to find a way of reducing 1 the smoke on even slow acceleration let alone foot down (that will make the road look like black clouds) 2. My trips to the petrol station. Couple of years ago I owned a gs300 and for some reason the economy on the superb and the old Lexus feel the same. The pump timing is at 0.6 ATDC. Morning starts are perfect first crank. Given my fantastic experiences,I wouldn't recommend the 2.5tdi anymore. But again that's my personal view iam sharing. There are some people who recommend remapping it but I can't see how that would help. The vp44 is a complex design seeing that after doing a lot of research on it, there are very few in the industry who would want yo touch and get give you only 12 months guarantee. Maybe at the back of their head they know its going to go pip again. The thought if it gives me nightmares. For now Il just head to the local bp round the corner to fill up.
  6. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new toy. Mpg is about right, mine does the same, maybe worse in town. Turbo,on these kicks in at about 1800rpm I haven't had a remap yet, bur going to consider the same option. But with the massive experience ive had with this engine, if i were you i would first check the injection pump timing on vagcom. It needs to be within spec and very often when its retarded there is a sudden boost of power and sluggish, start.
  7. I know the modern dsg has the horrible flywheel issue, but i honestly think, its much better than this over revving undergeared gearbox. My last a61.9tdi had a cvt box which was fantastic (yes i know the horror stories on the gearbox ecu and premature failures but if fixed with the upgraded 7 plate clutch they are fantastic. Anyway coming back to this topic, i just did a round trip of 200 miles which has approx cost me 40quid @135.9 a litre which equates to 30.4 mpg steady motorway driving cruise control at 70 . And plus plenty of black smoke I have plugged in vagcom and gone into basic settings tab 004 and it reads 1.8-2.0 Atdc When i click on tdi timing it reads -1.8 to -2.0. Switch back to basic settings it reads -1.8 to -2.0 btdc. Not sure what to make of that as timing is within spec. Starts on the key and power is great. Mpg is terrible and smoke is evident under light acceleration as well (specially at night can see it in others headlights). I have used the millers stuff and its not made any difference. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  8. Welcome to briskoda stu, superb is a good choice. Plenty of experienced people should you need any advice!
  9. Thanks, will added it to the tank. Will wait for the results, are you all coming to the meet on 28th July?
  10. Brilliant post, just tried it on my skoda and is great. Just wanted to check if this has any effect on mpg? Thanks
  11. Crc, can i add all the 500ml of millers to half a tank of fuel? Or do i need a full tank? Thanks
  12. They are numpties all right,I know that since they apparently change cambelts without changing tensioners and water pump. Lets hope the millers make a difference because based on this mpg the mileage iam going to start doing is going to cost a lot more. Maybe I should have just opted for a 1.9 in the first place!! But too late now. I'm looking for anyone on this forum who has remapped the 2.5tdi and seen better mpg and also if someone has disabled dsp on the gearbox via vagcom.
  13. Crc, have ordered the millers eco max today. Just out of curiosity what timing is your injection pump set at? Is your car remapped? V6tdi the same is ur car remapped? And what injection timing is yours at on vagcom Aisin Warner is a good enough gearbox we have it on my brothers s80d5 auto, which does 650miles to the tank and puts mine to shame.
  14. i think that's the right term torque converter locking, Its something like the import japs had "overdrive mode" but that usually kicked in top gear but what im experiencing is in the 3rd, revs drop slightly engine note changes and power kicks in.
  15. Good Morning to all of you, Hope you have enjoyed the bank holiday weekend. I have successfully covered about 2600 miles on the superb in the past month. Have regularly checked the timing on vagcom and is still at 0.6-0.8 ATDC as suggested by diesel v6, even though when you actually go into tdi timing graph it shows -0.8 Have noticed a few things on it, 1st gear great, 2nd gear great and when it goes into 3rd mid-way it drops into another gear as if its a 6 speed transmission which it isnt. and then we have 4th and 5th. I have read around on this and its to do with the dsp wanting to be switched off etc. I don't know the procedure for it as yet but would like to know your views on it with the experience i have had so far and the help I have revived from this forum i swear by this forum!. 2ndly the fuel economy is really bad compared to my old 1.9tdi, i seem to get about 400 on a motorway run. Is that normal? Tip computer shows 46-48mpg but when calculated from brim to end its no where near the 40's. There is no power loss, pulls well. Woulds a re-map be any good for it? Morning start up is good 1st crank no smoke, though there is plenty of it under heavy acceleration Over all great driving experience, but seems like the gearbox isnt really matched up to this car, its a confused one. Would appreciate your views!
