Thanks, Bigjohn - I'll look into it for next time.

It was indeed Simpsons - how did you guess?

Thanks for the replies - and apologies for the delay in my response, but I wanted to wait until the job was done to report back. Anyway, I did shop around as suggested and got the service done at the Skoda dealership (RRG) in Bolton for £189. Result!

With apologies if this has been covered already. Is it better to pay the Skoda dealer for servicing, or save a fortune by using a local garage? I've been quoted £310 plus £60 brake fluid change by my Skoda dealership. How do you get round the online service record? And does it affect the (5 year) warranty? The car's a 2014 model, 2 litre diesel estate - variable service intervals, now just over 36000 miles. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Columbus with online services
trevman replied to sjakkr's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
The live traffic info on Columbus seems pretty good. My morning commute takes me close to the M6, and more often than not the Columbus map has the southbound carriageway shaded in red. Sure enough, I can see the traffic standing still or moving very slowly on the motorway. -
It's 95x100cm when the floor is in the lowered position.

Does anyone know what eco mode actually does? It says it puts the engine and aircon in eco mode - but what does this mean? I've been wondering, since there doesn't seem to be much difference mpg wise between eco and normal - I've tried both on a couple of identical routes with no apparent saving in eco mode. Any ideas?

I moved from a MkII Elegance 1.6 to a MkIII Elegance 2.0, and I have to say that the 2.0 seems infinitely better. The 1.6 always felt like you were pushing it at motorway speeds, while the 2.0 is very relaxed. Around town the 1.6 wouldn't travel comfortably at 30mph in 4th - I frequently had to go down to 3rd; again the 2.0 is better, and feels beautifully smooth. I suspect the more recent 1.6 is better (mine was one of the first) but I'd still go for the 2.0

Strangely, with the option to "Fold when parked" ticked, the mirrors on my car fold in when you lock the car, but then unfold when you unlock it, not when you turn the key. It's a bw4 Elegance estate.

Canton upgrade, recommended!
trevman replied to Pumatron's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I have to agree with James_1974200 above. I also picked the car up yesterday - March 1st - with Canton and Columbus and it already sounds excellent. It's significantly better than the setup in my previous Octy MkII. Worth noting that I have twiddled with the settings a little to get a punchier sound; however, there's plenty of adjustment, so I'd imagine most users would be able to get the sound the way they like it. -
Build Week 4 - 20/1/14 - Anyone else?
trevman replied to james_19742000's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yep - build week 4. Car arrived at the dealers on Feb 7th - but I'm in the wait until March 1st camp. -
Elegance 2.0 diesel manual estate, black, Columbus, canton, spare wheel

With apologies to all those people on here still waiting.... My car arrived at the dealership on Friday (build week 4, ordered at the end of November). I was initially told delivery would be some time early to mid March - but I'm hanging on until March 1st for the 14 plate anyway. The dealership is fine with this - to be honest, they've been excellent throughout.
-
I'm in the "wait until March" club too. Spoke to the dealer on the phone, who said he felt it would be "unethical" to make a customer take delivery just before the start of the new reg. Fair enough, I thought.

I opted for the Elegance for a number of reasons:- Front centre arm rest - £150 option on SE Radio & phone controls on the steering wheel - again £150 option Variable estate boot floor - again £150 Auto dimming rear mirror - not available as an option (or at least not when I ordered) Sat nav (though I've added Columbus) - an expensive luxury I'd have to admit! There are a number of other features which seem less vital, but which still add to the appeal of the car, such as better wheels, cruise control, headlamp washers etc. Hope it all seems worth it when the car finally turns up!

Thanks for the replies folks!

Are mud flaps fitted as standard on any of the models? More specifically, I've ordered an Elegance estate, and wonder if they are included. Thanks.

Anyone else on build week 4?
trevman replied to trevman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Compared to my 1.6TDi MK2, the 2.0 was infinitely better to drive in every way. -

Same here. Have you added anything to the spec? -

Looking good then! Wouldn't want it before the first, of course.... -

Thanks for the reply - that's giving me some cause for optimism! Would be nice to pick it up that weekend! -
Build week 4 should mean delivery in early March. Or am I being optimistic here - is it likely to be put back?
