I haven't bought it. Just looking. I could just learn to ignore it ... it just looks bad "architecturally" to me.

I accept that the rejection for finance was from Skoda Finance and not the garage. Yet, a colleague of mine got 50% finance for use as a taxi. For me this would be EUR8,000 (not the EUR9,000 I asked for). But this option was not offered to me. I think they just thought that I was a bit dodgy looking. -
Thanks, good to hear other cab drivers find the Superb decent on fuel / power. My budget for a used Superb means I can only go for a 3 to 4 year old model (i.e. 1.9tdi). Is the Greenline version any better or is it just "window dressing" ?

I am interested in buying a used Superb II but it has a tow bar fitted. I would have no use for a tow bar and I think it detracts from the elegant looks of the car. Is it easy and cheap to remove it or should I just learn to live with it ?

I saw 2 cars for sale on their website. I went to their showroom and found 1 myself in the parking lot. When the salesman came out he was very helpful in relation to the car I could see. When asked about the other car, similarly priced (mileage, year, etc.)I was told that he "would not feel comfortable selling me that car". He said that it had been used as a taxi for a short while and said something about a leak. So, why was it for sale on the internet at that price ? -

Yes. I love this old style Irish salesmanship. This kind of witty back and forth negotiation is very rare nowadays. If you want your slick Harry or this old way is our own preference ...they just have different ways of selling cars. -

What a lovely place this was to buy a car from and re-visit from time to time. Not like the usual car dealership ... just decent country people. How sad that you are no longer operating. I have 381,000 kms on that Octavia you sold me in 2007. Thank you very much for your service. -

Two of my co-workers have bought their last 2 cars there. So I decided to go up ... 1 and half hour trip (3 hour return). They were very busy on the day (recession ?).I spent an hour and a half there. I test drove 2 Superbs (very nice , love 'em)... deal almost done. I said I needed financing of EUR9,000 on asking price of EUR16,000. Not possible as it would be used as a taxi. What an insult ... no financial accounts were asked for( except is my wife working ? "No, coz she doesn't need to work" is what I should have said). Obviously they are so busy that they don't needed taxi drivers investing in cars. -
Sorry I can't give advice for original question as I am also considering changing to a superb II for taxi work. Should I go for the newer 1.6 tdi over the original 1.9 ? Compared to my current Octavia II, 1.9tdi I know the Superb will cost more on fuel. Should I try to extend my finances for the newer 1.6 ? And is a bit sluggish on the acceleration ?
