  1. That explains me seeing my foglights on in a window opposite a T-junction the other week. I could only see the side I was turining too as a car was blocking the other side. When I got home I checked the lights to see if they worked ok. I thought the foglamps were on permanently in error! Doh!
  2. Thanks for the kind comments - I'm very pleased with the car so far - and very impressed with the engine.
  3. Hi, I've just got a 1.2 tsi 105ps and just filled up 2 weeks in after using most of the lovely free dealer fuel! I got 430 miles from 47.5 litres which equates to around 41 mpg. I drive in the countryside in Devon so it is not flat smooth roads. This is its first tank full so I'm hopeful it will improve as it runs in - I'm pretty happy with that as I was only getting an average of 43ish from my 2.0 TDi superb (not the best diesel engine ever produced apparently). I think the MFD is pretty accurate - my superb would promise a lot with a full tank but never quite deliver! I also concur on the driving style required - I was worried at how early the car wanted to be in 6th but it does not seem to labour as long as you keep the momentum up and don't brake and accelerate to much. Cheers, James
  4. Hi, I am a previous user of the forum under the superb section but I've rently had my eyes turned by a new Rapid Spaceback. I was happy with my Superb but it was a bit of an impulse purchase and I discovered this forum a little late to have advance warning of leaking pollen filters and undesirable 2.0 diesels! It behaved and drove well but was a bit of a beast and not too economical. So I was waiting until September to change it but my dealer tempted me in with a special offer weekend. I was impressed by the Rapid Spaceback already but I was a little wary of a 1.2 petrol engine as I'm 6'8" tall 20(ish) stone with an equally big family. I took the 1.2 demonstrator out and was pleasantly surprised, so I took it home for the afternoon and took the family out for a drive around the local Devon hills. I went back to the dealer, trying to hide my enthusiasm, but he smelt blood! I went for the finance deal which means a monthly cost interest free 42 months and I can trade in, walk away, or pay a wad to keep (dealers dream I am). So here are some pics of the new car. I'm still in the honeymoon period but it did 430 miles for 47.5 litres of dealer petrol (approx 41 mpg) - so I'm pleased with the economy, and it should get better. Very pleased with it so far: Edit - I did wonder about displaying my number plate and some people seem to hide theirs on here - seems sensible!
  5. Hi, I just bought a Rapid Spaceback with roof bars and a dog grill fitted. It was a showroom special and they included them (and charged me probably!). I don't have a dog and I didn't like it so I let them have it back - I know I should have kept it and sold it - but I didn't fancy the hassle. Sorry! I can't remember the part number - but it did attach via four screw in mounts - two above the rear passemger heads and two under the parcel shelf, accessed from the boot. Cheers, James
  6. Hi again, As far as I can work out the wetness is confined to the front and entered from the front. Under the doors and front seats everything seems to be dry. It is difficult to get your hand underneath the carpet in the rear footwell though. I've had a dehumidifier running since Friday afternoon and it seems to be taking water out. There are no floods left its just getting the final moisture out of the under lay and preventing condensation as a result. Once dry I can keep an eye out - I have a few hunches about the cause. I need to wash it soon so if we have a dry week I'll wash the car next week carefully, and observe! Cheers, James
  7. Hi flabio, I've tested and there was dirt around that channel you mention - everywhere else is very clean so I think water was been pooling there. I've cleaned it and pushed a pipe cleaner through but a cable tie is a good idea too. I'm also not going to park with that point lowest (nose down to the right). Trouble is it got quite wet and I'm struggling to dry it - I think I need a dehumidifier. Its amazing how the top feels ok when the underlay is moist. I wonder how many people are driving around a superb without knowing they have water under their feet! It has not rained for a week so I checked again tonight and was paniced to find the metal floor wet. But I think it is water still in the underlay condensating on the cold floor from the warm carpet (I have the heater blowing down). I'm going to keep a close eye on it for now. It looks really clean and tidy around the wiring and I'm hoping this hasn't been happening too long - but I can't really tell. I'm tempted to take it in to the dealer to get it dried and looked over - I've got to admit they've been very good so far in helping me suss out how to check and remove stuff on the interior/exterior. Regards, James
  8. Hi all, Had a good look yesterday and the doors and the frame seem to seal ok. Investigating further the carpet was not really wet under the doors and it seemed the water was coming in from the front as the carpet was the wettest around the pedals and the heel protector. When I checked the problematic battery chamber I found it was not draining properly so I suspect it filled in the bad weather on Wednesday and it leaked in from there. I keep checking it but not every day and there are a lot of leaves around at the moment. Its also a little damp on the passenger side but that might be the remnants of the damp I found before. Because I had problems with removing the window guard I got the dealer to reseal the pollen filter housing. I need to dry this thoroughly this weekend and keep an eye on the quality of their work. I visited the dealer as I was worried about disconnecting the battery - and they were very good with showing me what to move and what to look out for a reset after re-connecting the battery. The guy who sealed it talked to me and assured me he used the bathroom like 'seal on a roll'. So its a dry up and observe week for me - but its stopped raining now! I'm the only one in the country looking for it to rain! I might wash the car next weekend if we have a good week! Thanks for your help. Regards, James
  9. Hi, Thanks for the reply I'll certainly check those places. I did see your reply to another post on leaks where you describe your fault and how to explore under the inside trim panel. I think the chamber is good as I've checked the draining before and kept an eye on it - and there was no build up inside today - and boy did it rain. Now you mention it I've heard talk of the bonnet release grommet. I don't have a sunroof so I can rule that one out! I think its the door seals - looks like I'll have to do some tests at the weekend. Its a pain this time of year as I can't do anything in my garage as there is not enough room. I've been thinking tonight and the puddle was worse than what was underneath the carpet - which suggests something bad happened recently rather than a steady leak - but looks like a bit of investigating is in order. Cheers, James
  10. Hi all, I got some good advice on my pollen filter housing on here but I now seem to have another problem! When I got in my car tonight after work I noticed a little puddle under the gas pedal. It had been parked nose down to the right a little. I've not had any clues recently, like a smell or misty windows, so I'm hoping it not a massive problem. I took the carpet up a little and there is water in the footwell. I have noticed a little more wind noise when driving recently - like you've got the window slightly open. I thought it might be the seal around the frame that I compress every time I get out of the car in garage. Or maybe the top front of the rear door. But the rear footwell seems ok - although I struggled to get my hand under the carpet in the dark tonight! But after reading up on this it seems it could be a leak inside the door working its way out onto the plastic trim and into the foot well. Could I pour water on an opened door to check this? I'm concerned that now it is damp I'll struggle to notice it getting wet - and struggle to dry it out in winter! Regards, James
  11. Hi, I would like black ideally and that looks really nice. I had wondered if the current wood effect could be covered as I'm not keen on mucking about with the door panels and I could cover them without removing them. I don't suppose you know the details of the ebay supplier of the vinyl? Alternatively I need to keep an eye out for a set from a scrap edition 100! Cheers, James
  12. Hi, Great job on the Superb so far. I assume the white stuff is ordinary silicone sealant? Where was the best place to get the carpet up from? Cheers, James
  13. Hi Jimbof, Again - thanks for taking the time to explain that. I've got my torch ready and I'm armed with enough info to move forward. I think I'll speak to my local garage about the potential seal replacement as he is good and I trust his work/opinion. But at least I have the knowledge of the problem area and symptoms. I'm a lot better informed than last week. If it stops raining long enough tomorrow I'll get the superb out of its cosy garage and have a poke around. I'm really pleased with the car despite all this new knowledge! Thanks again, James
  14. Hi, Yes i did see that on ebay. I think i'll concentrate on the water problem first. And he does say there are some minor scratches on it. Where is the best place to check under the carpet? I had a look in the rear footwell and it was not obvious as to the best way to get the carpet back. Cheers, James
  15. Hi, Ok will do. Do I need to take off the windscreen shield and wiper blades to clean the housing? I realise I will have to if I want to upgrade the seal but I'd like to remove as little as possible to clean it! But I suppose its not worth doing half a job. I hope to check under the carpet too. I do not have any of the symptoms, but while I'm under warranty I want to check it out. Of course whether Skoda would do anything under warranty is another thing! Are there professionals out thare that will upgrade the seal? Regards, James
  16. Cheers Browser, Some pictures of the real thing can only help. Its not a urgent job, as I don't hate the current wood effect, but the more I know about how to complete the job the better. On the water front I opened the battery chamber last night and was pleasently surprised to see how clean and dry it was (considering it was raining here yesterday). I will take the battery out when I get time and see if those pesky rubber grommets are still in there. Cheers, James
  17. Thanks for the heads up - I did find a quote to stay away from the 2.0 Tdi on here while I was browsing It is low mileage (40,000 miles) and it did come from a dealer as I said - but I suppose that's no gaurantee of a good checkover. I do have a 12 month warranty though (up to Sept 2013). Sometimes I think its better to be blissfully unaware of these things!!!! Cheers, James
  18. I've had a look regarding the mention on water ingress above and seriously worried myself! I'll take a look at the earliest opportunity. Thats the value of forums like this. Regards, James
  19. Hi, Thanks for the advice - I'll keep the door picture somewhere for future reference. I'm wary of damaging trim so I won't attempt it without knowing exactly where all the fixing points are. I remember what a mess I made of an earlier cars door panels when I tried to take of the door cards! Unless a set of trim falls into my lap from a scrap one I'll think I'll learn to live with it - the kids like it. Cheers, James
  20. Hi all, First post so I hope this question is in the right place. I am the proud owner of a 07 plate Superb 2.0 TDi Elegance. I bought it from my local dealer last September and I am very happy with it so far. One thing that I am still deciding whether I like or not is the wood effect trim around the head unit, gearstick and down the doors: I've searched some possible replacement kits on Google but I'd like to know how easy it is to replace from some experts, and whether anyone could recommend a good supplier? I've had a browse of the forum but I could not find a topic on this subject. Cheers, James
