  1. I have a Seat Mii S 3 door and can confirm (1) the driver's door being unlocked/locked does the boot too but not the passenger door. (2) the courtesy light does not operate in door mode when the passenger door is opened but does with driver door. Hope that helps. My experiences seem to align with yours. I have just swapped from a Superb and I love it. And at sub £4K for a 2.5 year 20k miles some seriously cheap motoring. Parking is a doddle compared with the superb!!
  2. Hyphons - many thanks for the link - very detailed and helpful. Much appreciated. I presume the process for Up, Mii and Citigo would be the same.
  3. Any advice anyone has on changing oil on a Citigo would be gratefully received. I've done a couple of my past cars but just bought one of these and thought I would give it a go. Looks like oil filter is low down on the front of the engine. Thanks
  4. I have a superb 1.4tsi. I get 40-45 mpg on each tank. Real world and measured at pump. Best ever on a 1 hour run 62!! 40-45mpg equates to 169 - 150 gco2/km Car logbook says 157g/km Looks spot on to me.
  5. If this becomes a mandatory recall and there is work done to introduce tech to exhaust, I would think those that have tampered with particulate filters could have a bill on their hands.
  6. When I wonder why I should have doubled the cost of my car going for an L&k v the S 1.4 I have, I must say an umbrella is not high on the list.
  7. Coasting. This term describes a vehicle travelling in neutral or with the clutch pressed down. It can reduce driver control because engine braking is eliminated vehicle speed downhill will increase quickly increased use of the footbrake can reduce its effectiveness steering response will be affected, particularly on bends and corners it may be more difficult to select the appropriate gear when needed. I'm wondering whether above extract from HWC is less relevant today. First two bullets about eliminating engine braking is irrelevant - we want the car to free wheel and if it picks up speed you apply brake. Third bullet about footbrake losing effectiveness - I had heard that advice these day is not to use engine braking rather you should use foot brake so this may go back to days when foot brakes were poor.
  8. I would support Too Tall's comments. I used a pressure washer on my previous car and thought I was removing flies on front bumper until I noticed more we're appearing and in fact they were dots of paint coming off revealing black plastic underneath. Also left large patches of laquer missing in paintwork. IMHO you are playing with fire using these on your car. Bit of elbow grease is the answer!
  9. I would second Silver 1011. I have owned a 1.4S twin door for 18 months (it was 2.5 years old when bought). I came from a diesel. This engine is great. Very quiet - my skids has been mistaken for an electric. It is lively and plenty of power for the car. Normal fuel is 40-45mpg. We have done a south of France trip with four bikes on roof and fully laden. No problem with engine other than fuel dropped to 32 mpg.
  10. Thanks for the post VC-10. I also have the 1.4 in s-spec and have been equally impressed with the performance and the equipment/interior quality. I would expect the fuel economy to improve on your numbers. I am getting 40-45 typically on my 10 plate. The only time I had poor economy was on a fully loaded run with four bikes on the roof when the economy dropped by 10mpg. To other members - I would be interested to learn about what can be done on my s-spec through VCDS. I would be keen to get auto wipers - is that simply a coding change? Many thanks again and all the best with the Superb.
  11. Thanks Chan and merry Christmas to you. Your thread is epic. I'm convinced one day it will be made in to a film by Hollywood! Keep up the good work in 2014.
  12. The Audi has played with your mind. Audrey only had a little scrape. Your superb is a lovely car - enjoy it for a while longer. Both your car and ray's will be competing against brand new pre face lift 170DSGs being offered here at the moment at £19s. I'm not sure I could justify paying 12+ against that price of new.
  13. Yes - all the best Ray. I remember your photos of your superb after a wash and polish - looked in great condition after 4 years so a lucky new owner. Do drop some snaps of your e-class when it arrives. That's going to be a beaut.
  14. I was pleased with my 10 plate 1.4 twin with 50k miles bought with 3 months remaining on its warranty for £7.5k. An awful lot of car for money. I was also interested to read today the 1.4 FL comes with startstop. Impressive consumption should get even better.
  15. What you are used to driving will have the biggest influence on whether a 1.4 tsi will suit you. I have come from a 2.0 hdi and am really enjoying driving a petrol again. In fact someone got in my car on Friday and thought it was electric! But I would challenge the view that 0-62 in 10.5 is not sufficient for joining a dual carriageway. All I can recommend is try one out before Buying. It persuaded me.
  16. My 1.4 manual twin door is great. Very quiet engine. Very smooth. Plenty of power for car and at 70 happy to accelerate. Typically 45mpg.
  17. My car care is sometimes similar to my DIY - 1 step forward and as much backwards!! Good news - thanks to briskoda I have changed the pollen filter successfully. However, on washing my Rosso superb today I have noticed some damage either side of the groove above the passenger door. I am the culprit - a couple of weeks ago I collected my car from station to find a large bird eating plenty of berries had dumped a lot of deep purple mess on my superb. It had dried and knowing it is advised to remove ASAP so when I got back home a used a kitchen sponge and bottle of water to remove - (kitchen sponge thrown away after!!). Now said sponge was also a pan scrub type on other side - I know - I am a fool. To cut a long story - I have left a small area along the roof gutter dulled!scratched. Any advice on if this can be at least improved slightly? Many thanks
  18. Two small things - I find the indicator stalk feels a little flimsy and the wing mirror controller does not have a satisfying click as it is rotated to each of its positions. Small points I know.
  19. I won't pretend to understand how these mpg calcs work but reading the above comments it sounds like petrol and diesel calculate consumption in different ways. So could it be that the petrol engines are reporting more accurately than the diesels? Mine is petrol (1.4) and is near enough spot on.
  20. My 1.4 S also agrees within 0.1mpg on refill - I also use third click! I was surprised because I had read on this forum that they are typically up to 10% over.
  21. I got my first skoda in December - 10 plate 1.4 S twin door with 50k miles. Switched from diesel C5. I had wanted a Superb since their launch in 2008 (especially for the cabin space - I am 6'5 so most cars leave little space for my kids sitting behind my seat - no problem in the skoda!). I don't do huge mileage (approx 6k) so I was happy to give the petrol a go and, being only £7.5k, this was the only option I could justify to get in to a superb. All I can say is I have been mighty impressed so far. I dealt with a couple of cosmetics (water in skoda badges, loose boot catch cover) on remaining warranty- but the car has run perfectly to date. My only concern on acquisition was how efficiently it would run (particularly when loaded). We have had a trip up to lakes over Easter and the motorway run of 300 miles up there (inc 2 hours sat in congestion) plus 150 miles driving around lanes and mountain passes in lakes returned 45.4 mpg on computer and 45.3 mpg when tank refilled in advance of return trip. This was with 4 in car and boot of luggage. Paying less per litre for the fuel and only doing 6k miles per year (plus chain in engine so no cost there hopefully ;-) ) I am very happy with its performance. The 1.4 engine is never going to provide the thrills of more powerful engines but it really is a great engine and more than sufficient for this car. Incredible really. Very comfortable on the long run and the kids have not once asked me to move my seat forward!!! The only comment I would add on consumption is I am trying to drive efficiently - not obsessively but gentle acceleration, changing up quickly and keeping motorway cruising at 68-70. I suspect the performance would be significantly impacted if you drove more aggressively. But why rush when you are in such a comfortable and welcoming cabin ;-)
  22. I have a 2010 1.4 TSI S and it has lumbar adjustment on both driver and passenger. Would this have been an extra then at new (I only bought my skoda at Christmas).
