This is the same as the MK1 manual - had me proper confused. Anyone have the correct version?
  1. Thanks - I'll pass that bit on and ask him to confirm.
  2. It's an 04 reg 1.9 diesel 4 motion - based on B5.5...? I'm not sure about the 3b/c part - and I've left him tasked with finding this out for you. Again, given the fact that I dont have these long codes either I'd have thought the functionality of my windows would be the same as his.
  3. Aye - that was our 1st thought - his keys in the door operate the windows up/down when locking / unlocking though - so maybe there's a bit of an issue with remote functionality? I read about something called an "alien" module? The main fly in the logic ointment though is that my superb works fine on the remote, but I dont have the long code functionality either and cannot find anywhere any parameter to change the operation of it. If I could find some parameter on my car it would point at the fact that his car doesnt have the module in question, and mine does - but the cars appear almost exact... Confused.. I'll post the full module spec when I go down there and scan his car (probably in a week or so now..)
  4. Hi, I bought vag-com for my superb (as noted in a different thread) and have been playing about with it quite successfully. I took my vag-com down to my friends to try setting some bits on his car and managed to do the anti-hijacking fine. Now whereas my car will enable me to open and close the windows from the remote, his 04 passat doenst - and I'm stumped if I can find out why. We've checked the web and found a couple of articles that seem to say that a VW based on the B5 code can be changed using 46 (Cent Conv), 07 (long code) and then changing some parameters there within, but the problem is that neither my car, nor his has this "long code" option within vag-com. The "07 Code" option exists, but the options within it are different from the long code. I tried looking for the Long Code in a couple of different modules but no joy there either. Is there some kind of "basic interface" parameter within vag-com that I've got set, or is there something even more fundamental at fault (i.e. the modules on the car dont support long coding?). My other concern given that my superb does open/close with the remote, if I wanted to disable that, how would I go about it as I dont have the Long Code option available to me even on my car? Thanks
  5. I'll probably go buy one of those aforesaid manuals just for completeness. But ... managed to get the anti-hijack working, along with the "chirp" when locking / unlocking the doors - always good for pose value methinks. I was happy to see there are zero fault codes with the car and that the mileage tallies (ish) with what VAG-COM says it should be. Dissapointed to see that I dont have auto-headlights though - is there any way I can get this module added - perhaps from a dealer? I'm guessing it's a re-blown eeprom or perhaps some additional hardware?
  6. Hi. After reading in here about all the magic that can be done with VAG-COM I went and purchased the bits from Ross-Tech. Amazing delivery times - ordered it on Friday (pay day!) and it was here this morning! Anyways - all excited like, I went to plug it in to my faithful Superb and have a good old tinker. I'm a bit stumped though, as some of the options I want to go play with ask me for "Service Codes or Secret Pass Codes" and refer me to the service manual (which I dont have....?). Can someone point me in the right direction to get these codes? Thanks in advance Freudy
  7. I have to agree with the last post. Here is a post that I was going to place when I first got my car, but discression won the war until now (please remember this was almost a year ago). Today however, just to top it off, I called Rainworth to ask how much a 40,000 variable service was - £351.71 inc - elsewhere - £266.20 inc (and that's a skoda dealer too!) =========================== Hi all, I'm new here - just bought my 1st Skoda - a '54 reg Superb Comfort - brilliant machine. However, to co-incide with my 1st service, I have my 1st horror story - it needs to be told, but I'm not sure where to tell it. Apologies if this isnt the right place. So, I bought my Skoda from a car supermarket as it offered very good value for money. It needed a service in 700 miles, so before I actually made the transaction I rang a local Skoda dealer to enquire about the 1st 20k mile variable service costs as I didn’t want to buy a car that would need servicing twice a year that cost many hundreds. I was told that it cost £230. Nothing too surprising there, however when I rang my local garage, they said that they would charge only £110. Seeing the opportunity to save a few quid, I called Skoda Customer Services to ask them about having the car serviced at a non-franchised dealer, and how it would affect the warranty. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that provided the servicing garage was VAT registered and used genuine Skoda parts, all would be in order. I called the original garage back and asked them how much it would be to have the service computer reset as the local garage didn’t have the equipment to do this and again was nicely surprised to hear that it would be a princely £15-£20 + VAT.. Bargain! So, tomorrow (Wednesday) the car is booked in for its service - and I call the Skoda garage to book the car in for the computer resetting (after its service would have been completed) to be greeted by "John" ... the owner of the garage. I explained the history of my conversations with his garage and Skoda & my local garage and asked nicely if I could book the car in for sometime tomorrow. He then tells me in what can only be described as an arrogant and aggressive fashion, that the cost would be £60+vat. I queried this as I had been previously told £15-£20+vat and received back the rantings and ravings of someone who obviously had a bad Easter break. "Why should we reset your computer? You didn’t buy the car from here, You’re not having it serviced here, why should we? I'm the owner of this garage, the cost is £60+vat if you want it done, but I don’t need your business. Feel free to take it elsewhere, we're not hard up for this kind of work". That’s a very condensed version with all the repeated ranting removed (and believe me, some of the phrases he used are not worthy of print here). I actually believed that as a franchised dealer the job would have been a good way to introduce a new customer to his garage, and build up a good relationship, easing a new Skoda driver into Skoda's warm bosom, earning trust and (possibly) new sales from it. How wrong I was. I called Skoda Customer Services to report this no less than abusive attitude (as I said, the majority of the rantings were removed) so hopefully "John" will get his just deserts. I called another 2 Skoda dealers in the same locality, who were more than happy to take my £38.19 inc VAT and possessed none of the 1st Skoda garages attitude issues. I can honestly say that if I'd have spoken to John to start with, I would have in fact bought from a different manufacturer, wrongly under the assumption that all Skoda dealers would have been like this one. Skoda need to be aware of such maligned individuals operating with their name.
  8. Heh, thanks for that, but only this morning I turned the blowers up/down full and it made no difference.. apart from the fact that I could hear the blowers! I checked the door seal again today, looking in particular at the groove where the window sits and seals, but again, there's nothing there - all feels as it should. I'm lost for my next step now - feel a bit daft going to a garage for it, but maybe that's what I gotta do.
  9. I hear what you're saying about cars being soul-less (or "having character" as my old dad used to say). The only ever owned 2 cars that made me feel happy to be in them, no matter what, and they were a 1994 L reg M3 coupe, and a 1996 N reg M3 Evo Saloon. Both cars were devastatingly fast 5.6 & 5.4 seconds to 60 respectively, both returned good MPG, both were very well build, handled supremely and commanded more than a little respect in the traffic light line up. The interiors were high quality, functional, accurate and somehow just seemed to fit right. The evo saloon was the wolf in sheep's clothing with its 321bhp, limited slip diff and 4 doors. It caught out more than a few souped up corsa sxi's :-) However, I do have to admit, maybe it was because I was a few years younger than I am now, but those sort of cars subconsciously egg you on and you find yourself entering traffic light drag races even when you really don't want to .. its a principle thing. Nowadays, I like my superb - i don't get into anywhere near as many sprints from the line, but sometimes the M3 man comes a visiting ... ]:-)
  10. Hi All, My 54 reg 1.9 Comfort superb has started to make *the* most annoying whistle from the nearside window area recently. It starts at 50-55mph and doesnt go away until the naughty side of 85 (or the road noise overrides it). It does go away if I open the window by about an inch or so, but then at this time of year, that's not always practical. I've checked things like the mirror surround (in case of cracks), the seals around the window, and ensured that there are no bits of bodywork sticking out that shouldnt be etc. Anyone got any thoughts on this as it's driving me mad... Ta

  13. That sounds like the stuff for me - is there a nice "howto" guide for it - I will probably need cables & stuff - does anyone sell a kit here? Does it affect my warranty? Sorry to ask all these q's - any ideas about the knocking noise?
  14. Just about to click over to 19k Still razzed about the inablity to change my own cars settings myself ... wonder if ebay has a Skoda computer for sale....
