  1. read and note this: Lambda sensors / exhaust oxygen sensors have you ever changed your lambda sensor? similar problem just cured on my 1.3mpi
  2. well its done i've travelled 1-2 miles 5 times from cold now and swiched off switches on again no prob so if i was lazy i could now drive to buy my paper and not have to walk home ha ha also noted dirty earth strap on gearbox which was no doubt not helping with the cold starting but the warm starting issue seemsw to be fine now
  3. try your lambda sensor as this would cause this problem I have the same prob with my felicia - just replacing lambda today, but these lambda sensors get hot/cold hot/cold 100's of times and are sensitive lambda sensor is s servicable item which many peeps forget to replace see link: Lambda sensors / exhaust oxygen sensors my very knowledagle long stading mot man says he has replaced many a lammbda sensor for the symptoms you are having
  4. to all of those of you who are replacing what sensors you think might be the problem, I would suggest you buy oneof those machines you plug into to the diagnosis port as the basic ones are only about £30 off e bay. I know alot of peeps say bad starting = dodgy crank sensor but at £45 a go you dont want to replace them and guess. my car has had a new crank position sensor as I damaged it whilst doing the clutch, my car has also has a new thermostat housing ans temp sensor. anyway lambda will be herer tomorrow.I'll keep you posted
  5. Ok My 1.3 MPI felicia has been suffering for the last several years with papershop syndrome, ie you go to the papershop (5 mins away) switch off get paper swith on to pull away - it wont start unless you wait about 5 mins? I do not really drive to the local paper shop - thsi is justa description of the problem! It has not bothered me for teh last few years as I have had no reason to switch off in the first 5 mins )only wont restart in 5 forst 5 mins), however recently......... it wont start from cold but randomly? ..so my friend plugged his diganosis machine into into, it said intermittent fault 02 sensor ( lambda sensor ), on asking my mot man (who is another friend of mine) he advises the lambda can effect hot and cold starts (if the fault is intermittent - which it is) so, I've ordred one and will fit it as soon as it arrives, so if you have any of the above issues try replcing your lambda sensor but be warned to actully unscrew it you'll need to hold a blow torch over the nut and get it well hot! I know there are ALOT of felicia owners that suffer from paper shop syndrome (especially when buying pertol close to their home when starting off from cold) so I thought I post this to help.
  6. 4x100 is the same stud pattern (if memory serves corret) as an old shape VW beetle. In which case you have alot of choice for bigger wheels. However and I cant empahise this enough if you are swapping wheels PLEASE PLEASE be careful that your wheels bolts have the corret taper and fit flush against your hub, please also check that the nuts go on enough on the thread.
  7. Hi, My felica 1.3 MPI wont start and I wondered if anyone could tell me why? This happened before when I changed the clutch about 3 years ago, as when I put the gearbox back on I accidentaly knocked the crank sensor. I explain on this forum, was told to replace crank senor and hey presto it was that. I was eternally grateful for that advice as I was pulling my hair out! Car has given me hadly any probs for 3 years, however in last few weeks on the odd occasion it has been hesitant when starting, as I have turned the key the first time & it sounded like it wouldn't start. second time no probs. Now it wont start at all, however starter is cranking over nice and strong 3.5 years ago I replaced the thermostat housing complete with sendor in it. I dont think thats related to the starting problem but I thought I'd mention that just in case any experts have any suggestions. Is it possible that the connectors on the crank sensor have got dirty which is causing the starting issue? or indeed the 3 year old crank sensor might be knackered already? The current problem is it wont start at all now, but it does have that other classic 1.3 MPI felicia problem of when it was working of 'basically from cold start it (was) starting first time as usual, but if you turn the car off before it is fully warm (eg. a minute or two) and try to restart it's a real struggle. Wait for it to cool and then it will start with some persuasion. Let it cool fully and first time again....' I borrowed that explantion from another thread hop you dont mind stevenp if your reading:thumbup: So anyways I need to get the damn thing to start now as as i say it wont start at all. Where do I start? Also I am going to do the plugs, air filter, and an oil change, as its due for all that now. I am consceoius that I wnat to get the correct spark plugs. What sort shall I get and where from is there a specific part no for felicia 1.3 mpi spark plugs? Many Thanks in advance and I will try to help others with advise if i can at all:thumbup: I need to use my (quite limited) skill and this forum (if poss) to sort this problem as we are totally skint and there is no way we can afford to take it to a garage. At the monent its our only car we can (cant lol) use (have another one but cant afford the insurance (at the moment)
  8. ok I have taken the crank sensor off complety now is is well damaged on the metal part of it, I must have caught it badly on the flywheel when I was putting the box back in. I will order a new one tommorow, but at 38 notes plus vat at my local main dealer it all seems a bit pricy (for such a small sensor) any one got any good independant suppliers. I tried one call butt or something off the forum but they didn't have one. cheers
  9. ah sorry getting confused, crank sensor is on the block above the flywheel, just went outside on the drive with the manual, and had a fiddle with the wires to the crank sensor and it started but wouldn't re-start, I will have more of a proper look tomorrow.
  10. thanks for your help, yes when i had the box on the floor the plastic bit where the cranck sensor wire plugs in got a bit damaged, but it still plugged in. maybe i will replace that (cheap) what this throttle body malarky what do i check for there? it it a sensor?, thanks for the swift responses by the way
  11. yes I disconnected it when i did the clutch (see other post for full story)
  12. thanks very much. i have realised today one of my neighbours is an auto electrician, he says (in reference to my other problem I posted about) that I have most likely streched a wire on the loom to the ecu when the halfords jack failed that was holding the engine, and he will borrow some diagnostic equpiment to plug in and have a look see. much cheaper than taking to a garage(cant afford it anyway) he might even try and fix for a few drinks. Probelm is mostly wont start now but sometimes it will like i left it for twelve hours and it started, but once switched off it wont re-start. I have already replaced the collent temp sensor about 6 months ago (I understand this causes starting problmes sometimes) any other ideas why it wont start? cheers Jeff
  13. Can someone tell me where I would find the electrical plug for electronic fault finding diagnosis on my 99 felicia 1.3 mpi? Cheers Jeff
  14. yes mine sensor broke too and I had to also buy a unit for £52 from the dealer, but as said before it really is no more than a half hour job absolute maximum
