  1. Ordered mine via Peter Lloyd Rallying - Grayston don't deal with public direct I believe.
  2. One of the contributory factors is this; there are just too many second hand cars in the UK! Have you ever said to yourself 'how do used car ever keep their prices seeing as there are a million 2nd hand cars on every UK high street and back road garage'? OK a little over statement but it's the truth - loads of cars for people to choose from. Hope it goes well - never give up. There's a saying in the trade I've heard that goes - 'your first offer is usually your best offer' has a ring of truth eh?
  3. Some fair points but.......... Ebay got me 50 watchers and 10 bids of up to 3600. As soon as ebay ended I got a call from a nice couple who offered 5250 and bought it? So clearly my car was worth 5250 (my reserve) and clearly none of the 1100 or so viewers and watchers bid anywhere near that. So I still reckon it's a funny old place. Having said that it's prob the best auction site out there. If I was dealing as such I would 'buy right' and 'sell right' but as this was my own car that had depreciated from 16100 to 5250 in 5 years I suppose I was keen to get best possible price. Darn that 'market price' thing!!
  4. Ebay is a strange animal - you get over a 1000 views. You get 50 watchers. You get 10 bids all around half the value you expect. Then nobody bids in the last moments. My honest opinion is that ebayers consist largely of those folk who like walking around car boot sales, auto jumbles etc and expect to get a steal or their cash stays in their pockets. I only put the Skud on there as I was desperate for space. It's a thing I won't do again - it's 99% a waste of time and money if you expect a true value sale. The funny thing is - as soon as the auction ended I started getting the calls! Huh? I'll know by 5p.m. today if it's gone. Keep you posted. BTW - if anyone puts their vRS Octavia on Autotrader don't do what I did and list it as some sort of SLXi or whatever category was offered to me. Put people off I found out later. PS did go for 5250!!
  5. A funny thing - ebay auction ended - Autotrader ended - no sale. Then I get a call out of the blue from a genuine sounding guy who says he wants to buy - will keep you posted!! As Winston Churchill said, "Never, never, never - give up!"
  6. I understood the point, honest. The thing is a Buyer always thinks 'book' price. A Seller always thinks 'the book is not everything'. If it sells it'll go for what it's worth - what it's worth is what someone is willing to pay. On a forecourt it would have sold by now because it can be seen and driven. On the Internet people make judgements based on digi pics and descriptive words. Sometimes we can advertise poorly and not get a sale. Tomorrow will tell !! cheers Chris
  7. Thanks for the message. To be honest - my car is of more value than letting it go at a silly price. There is no reason to sell apart from a smallish drive and a really stupid replacement car. I will probably keep the Skud and make the nutter car my weekend toy instead. cheers Chris ps just had an email from soneone who's been to see a number of Skuds and had to admit they were 'shoddy'. That's maybe what makes the difference. Book price is one thing, but it's only a guide. It's not the law and not set in concrete. If someone sees the value in a car - then the 'book' price is just that - a price in a book.
  8. I've found that the only places that haven't sold my car are Briskoda, Autotrader, PH, Freeads and Ebay. Apart from that pretty good............................
  9. Most sellers find that 'their' forum is usually the hardest place to find a buyer for all of the above reasons. It's amazing to see Post Views exceeding 300 and 400 and not a single peep from the viewers. Hence Autotrader, PH, ebay and other sites are also used. I gave Briskoda the first dibs, but quickly realised there were no serious people interested. One 'buyer' was so interested he told me he would wait til the weekend was over then get back to me with his original offer. I took him at his word and when I called to honour his deal - he told me he had bought another car (but didn't bother telling me). The other guy was 'very interested mate' and within a day decided he wasn't interested in buying my car at all. I've learned to be very wary of total strangers calling me 'mate' - never turns out well, chum............... Window shoppers or tyre-kickers or time-wasters - all twigs on the same shrub really. Although window shoppers, (I'm one too) don't get peoples stress levels revving into the red!!
  10. I needed a manual to understand Haynes!! I blame the German /Chech engineering for all this trouble. Perfect tolerances mean we Brits cant tell where 2 pieces meet. Now I recall my first Mini and all subsequent British cars - no problem seeing immediately where 2 pieces met - usually about 3-4mm apart and not consistently 3-4mm either!!
  11. OK I'll give it a whirl.......... it just looks like there is no 'cover' as such just one thick grey grab handle (passengers side I'm on about). Did it! Seems like Skoda do a pretty flush fit on the top part of that solid looking handle. Once you get right underneath the top cover and get the screw driver in the position where the plastic dowling is situated you are perfectly placed to prize it a little and..................... chew big lumps out of the cover edges!!! Doh! Actually not too bad when you know how. It's taken me longer to do a door card than to dismantle my Brooklands 280 for painting. What a wimp. Thanks everyone.
  12. Hi - sorry if this post should be elsewhere - bit desperate! I am trying to remove the front pasengers door interior panel I've done all visible screws. It seems the grey plastic grab handle is the sticking point. Despite a general direction over the phone with a dealer I still can't get the persishing grab handle to come free. I have stopped in case I destroy the door card itself. Has anyone got the technique of removing the grab handle on the passengers side front door of a 2002 Octy vRS please? Many thanks Chris ps I need to remove the panel tonight hence the urgent post.
  13. do you mean they won't let anyone have mods anymore - or they won't allow you to ADD anymore to your current modded car???
  14. No time to read all these but Liverpool Victoria insured my vRS with a Jabba Chip - no extra cost AND they permit track days where no racing or time trials involved.
  15. somebody please close this thread it's gone a bit hare-brained................
  16. difficult to laugh when you have a Hare-lip!!
  17. cheers Dennis - now my new slicks will fit also! Nothing like being sure is there...........
  18. quick while you lot are online - what is the J width of the 17" vRS road wheel please? my handbook only gives up to 16" wheel sizes!! ta Chris ps just bought another set of Michelin slicks on ebay - hoping they are the correct width now........................
  19. Hare today - gone tomorrow....................
  20. shouldn't some of us be er, working right now??
  21. re Liverpool Victoria and did the insurance cover make any difference to driving? No, not a bit - I always drive as fast as I possibly can BUT trying to leave a couple of % for that memorable moment that might crop up. As Sting used to sing, "I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing, I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing" etc etc link to pics from sdimaging http://www.trackphoto.co.uk/
  22. As Liverpool Victoria Insurance told me two weeks ago "as long as there's no racing or time trials we'll cover you on a track day"..................................... I think racing might be less risky! Mind you they said there's no charge for the Jabba chip either........................ ps I have to say that my Michelin slicks must have added about 50 bhp equivalent to my cornering speeds - had as many blisters as Vanessa Feltz' butt after Liposuction!!
  23. Ffelan - I am so impressed with my RS in stage one Jabba - that I reckon with adjustable shocks, real brakes (plus maybe next turbo size up) I'd be almost untouchable! Only got passed by 3 all day - inc nutter Cupra and a TT and something else. Smokin' day. Who was the other Black RS that helped me get my black flag - and went through the cones instead of doing the far side chicane? Marshall thought I was going to try for a wrong side overtake - which was garbage - I was looking for the white knuckles on the other driver then slotted back in well in time. Must have looked dodgy from behind that's all I can think. (your Honour!)
