  1. I had cream leather (with alcantara) on my VW V5, which with the wood panels looked beautiful when new. But 13 years and three kids later... did not weather very well at. I don't mind Brown leather in principle but it depends on the type of brown and the type of leather. I'll go have a snoop at the local dealership to see what I can find. Thanks
  2. Thanks very much for all the input guys, really appreciate it! I know asking the SII forum for advice on the SII is a bit like asking for turkeys to vote against Christmas ;-) But it looks like the 170CR is definitely the one to go for. I'll have to read up on the specs to decide between Elegance and L&K. But first I need to get my SI back on the road an take it from there. George
  3. Hello fellow briskodians, I'm considering moving from my Superb I 2.5V6TDI-Trip Elegance, to a Superb II. The "I" is a beautiful car, but I'm not in love with its thirsty engine, heavy steering, mis-matched grearbox, water-flooding floors and now a very expensive fuel injection pump replacement. It seems that quality is a bit of a hit-and-miss affair on the 2.5V6s. What Superb II would you recommend to move to? I like the stronger engines (After 13 years on my Passat 2.3V5...) and I drive a mixture of town and long motorway journeys. But I would like consumption to be at real Diesel levels (40-50+s) not the Petrol level that my current 2.5TDI is giving me (23-38). And I don't want overtaking to starve once you have 4 people in the car. Not too fussed about Auto gearbox, I'm happy with either. What would you recommend for overall reliability, power and kit? Assume a 3+ year old car, from a price budget perspective. Thanks George
  4. *UPDATE* So, brake light came on and I had to make a quick decision as I was looking at a weekend with over 500 miles of motorway ahead of me. Didn't want to risk the brakes being low. I picked up a set of standard front disks and pads from Euro Car Parts (I think they were Pagid, if I remember correctly) for the grand sum of £150.94 and had them fitted for another £40. All the jitters disappeared (once off, you could actually SEE that the old disks have had it), breaking is now strong and smooth and as an added bonus it looks that they are shedding less soot than the previous ones. God only knows what cheap rubbish had been put on before I got the car! Problem solved!
  5. Duh! Why didn't I think of that? Thank you, I've been to see them before, I'll drop them an email and see what they suggest. many thanks! George
  6. Dear Briskodians, help! Big problem with constant puddles of water in the rear passenger footwell, which is starting to smell. I have read all the info on the Water Ingres trail, but I don't have the time or the dry area to start taking the car apart myself. I would much rather hand it to someone who knows what they are doing. Can you (or do you know someone who can) take over and sort it for me please, for a reasonable fee? Ideally somewhere in the Bucks/Northants area. Please let me know as soon as possible Many thanks George
  7. Thanks Mr. Rooney! These look good. Which type did you go for? grooved or drilled? What's the difference?
  8. Hi, Can anyone post a link on where you can find disks/pads online for the 2.5V6? I've tried a few online sites and it comes out empty (e.g. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/brake-pads/car/skoda/superb-02-08/2006/2-5td).
  9. Are you waiting for the glow-plug warning light to go out, before cranking the engine? It may be that the engine is waiting for it to heat up first, before it fires up. In the cold, it will take longer...
  10. Raf_ you are probably right. I managed to go to TPS today (VAG parts dealer in Milton Keynes). They looked it up, and thankfully had one in stock. Apparently it is a "Pressure Valve", on the return fuel line. £25 for the pleasure! I am using the car at the moment without it in place, and it seems to be working fine. Fuel consumption is pretty much the same as before, but I'll put it back on of course. I can't find any reference online to understand its function. Does anyone know what the purpose of it is? What does it actually do? George
  11. Panic! My 2.5TDI starting smelling of petrol, and upon inspection (and a little jiggling) it turns out that there was diesel spewing from the flexble hose just leading up to/from the injectors (in the very front of the engine). That pipe has a little in-line fliter-looking thing in-line, and one of it's connectors snapped right off! Can somebody please tell me what that filter does, and how critical it is? Can I temporarily fit a straight pipe without it, until I get hold of the right part? Can I temporarily use a basic fuel filter from halfords? Trying to find a Sunday solution, as I need the car on Monday morning Thanks George
  12. Update... One perished front tyre later, wheels rebalanced, replaced perished CV boots (which nicely coated the insides of my wheels in a wonderful mixture of grease and break dust - aaaarrggh!), the problem remains. Garage confirmed that warped disk is probably the issue, although won't know until changed and I'm not planning to change until pads wear down. I'll just have to live with the shudder I guess... While I'm at it, does anyone have suggestions for pads that shed less dust? Two days afte a wash, my wheels are covered again. It's getting tedious... Thanks!
  13. That is a great idea and very simple to check! Thanks Robjon :-)
  14. Right! Discs and balance to check first then... Many thanks!
