  1. I have the Ivory interior on mine and so far the leather has been perfect. My old mark 1 also had the Ivory interior and it did suffer around the area where the seat belt rubs against it by the door but the same is also true of the black leather as well. The ivory does show the dirt so much more then the black but wipeing the seats with one of thoese special wipes designed for leather seems to do a resonable job of keeping it under control. Ivory also brigtens up the interior and adds a feeling space to the occassion. Specman
  2. The Amethyst Purple is nothing at all like silver, you have to see in the flesh to really appreaciate it. I have and it is a wonderful colour, like Cappucino Beige it does not show the dirt so much so it looks nicer for longer. In fact is really like a slightly darker version of Cappucino Beige which my old version 1 was. I don't like cars that are common and the same applies to colours, there so many grey, silver, white, black and red cars around so I opted for the Amethyst, it it very distanctive but no so much so that your car could be picked out easily amongst from others, it oozes class in my opinion, just like the car itself does. 3. I think the main problem here is that the seat cushion seems to be slightly narrower that that of the first Superb, maybe if they would make it wider it be a great help as you are probably sitting on the upturned edge which does not have much padding and below that edge is the stiff plastic panel that houses the electrical controls. It was one of the first things that struck me when I opened the drivers door was just how far away from the doorway the drivers seat actually is, seems to more then on most cars? Graham
  4. Having also had 2 Vectras as company cars, I can only conclude that this guy was being paid by Vauxhall judging by his comments like "better plastics in the Vectra" and others. My memories of them were not flattering, broke down a lot, very harsh ride, noisy, tinny, poorly finished, trim is flimsy and engine was very crude, much the same as the car it emerged from, the Cavalier, both are cars that JC loathes. Graham
  5. What do you mean by VCDS and how do you obtain them? I would like to upgrade to the 7 didgit postcode as well. Graham
  6. I think the noise is far more likly to be a piece of plastic etc. that is either rubbing against the body at that critical rpm range or something that is slightly loose under the bonnet. These new models have such good insulation on them that I'm not aware that mine is diesel at all unless I open a window slightly and even then it is very quiet. Strange that the tyres seem to be wearing out at such a low mileage, I have 2 of the earlier model Superbs and the front tyres on both were replaced at around 33,000 miles and I don't hang about either but have always believed in smooth driving and smooth gear changes. I have work colleagues who have not had such good results but after driving with them I can see that they love to hang onto the lower gears for longer before changing up. this will have the effect of putting more torque onto the road and thus the tyres are under more pressure? I would typically be in 5th gear while they were still in either 3rd or 4th and this also manifested itself in the MPG figures, mine was far higher then they achieved and I would often overtake them on long drives and get to the destination ahead of them, so I pose the question what style of driving do forum members have who are suffering from excessive tyre wear? To be fair though as yet I have no personal experience of tyre wear on this new model as I'm just about nudging 2,700 miles on the new car but a colleague is getting around 19k from his, so time will tell if my relaxed style of driving will pay dividends again although I now have a DSG box so that may play a part as well. Graham
  7. I'm on my third Superb now and all of the previous ones had service intervals of 20,000 miles and seeing as the new one 60 plate, is essentially the same engine I can see no reason why the car should not be serviced at 20k intervals. I have not any engine problems at all with my earlier cars.
  8. Front parking sensors, heated windscreen for the winter and for the summer months, a solar sunroof to keep the air fans running and help keep the interior cool when parked up. Heated washer jets and auto dimming rear view mirror are also good to have but some say that they are standard over there, extras in the UK. Most people who have had the uprated sound system installed say that it is not worth the money as the door cards cannot handle the extra bass and you get rattles and vibrations as a result meaning that you can't use the extra sound quality if bass is what you are after.
  9. Strange that comment seeing as it is going to be the old men who will best remember that Skoda was for many years the butt of many jokes so it is more likely to be a more younger man who has not heard the old jokes, instead has grown up with Skoda's rise to motoring glory as being the typical customer, or those like me with more intelligence and can spot a good bargain when they see one. I'm 61 and have had 3 Passats before and now I'm on my third Superb, this one is an 140bhp TDI (2011 model) DSG Elegance and unless there is something else comming along to steal the Superbs crown, it will not be my last either. I have been reading this thread keenly and I see that there is the suggestion that VAG are concerned about sales of Passats are beng lost to Superbs and that they may restrict access to their latest technology etc in a bid to redress that situation. Surely they are already are doing that, take the CO2 emmisssions for instance, aren't the Superbs already the highest of the VAG group for similar sector cars and as a company car driver, I have to pay a significant amount more in BIK tax. Before I had Passats the company cars came from the Vauxhall or Ford stable and when I got my first Passat it was wonderful by comparrison but then along came the Superb with its longer wheelbase, more legroom etc and I switched over following an extended 48 hour test drive. The differance was startlingly, better ride comfort, quiter ride, more space for everyone in the car and you really got that "big car" experience driving it, the only problem area was the badge and its association with the jokes and the companies past history. So as an engineer, logic began to take over, it was broadly speaking a Passat with a longer wheelbase so it had a good pedigree already built in if you ignore the badge. It also came with a longer list of standard kit over the Passat, I also had a large family, large in as much as my 3 sons were 6' 4" like me so the extra legroom came in handy, so I decided to take the plunge and order one as my next company car and I still cannot get the huge grin of my face everytime I drive it, it has huge presence on the road too. The only thing that spoils it is the CO2 rating and its effect on the car tax that I pay but I fully expect that by the time it comes up for replacement they will be fitting cleaner engines anyway. I drive a real car, not a badge.
  10. You will find the Ivopry mats getting dirty very quickly, I ordered my car with black mats but you can always buy after market mats and lay them over the original ones for protection.
  11. Sorry to say it but yes and the insurance company could also leave you without any insurance cover what so ever unless they have been told that the engine power has been remapped to 210. Even fitting non standard wheels and tyre can render the insurance useless.
  12. Got my car 2 weeks ago and it came with mats as standard, ivory but I wanted black mats which I had to pay for so I have now got the Ivory's that came as standard and a set of black ones. The brolly was missing and I pointed this out to the dealer and today, I have the missing brolly in its place FOC as it should be with the car as it was with the mk1 Superb. Both cars listed it as an accessary should you need to replace it.
  13. Followed the instructions and it works, just as a phone, no longer supports SMS messages but that is a good thing in my book, Thanks for the info.
  14. I have the 140 DSG hatch/saloon and test drove the 170 DSG combi and I really do not think that the 140 is going to disappoint anyone but the all out speed freak in which case I would suggest that the Superb is not the car for you as it is not meant or designed to be a outright speed machine but a high class passenger car that will and does rival cars from the so called premium brands costing many thousands more. Surely if you are having a Superb then it should be a done deal that your primary reason being that you have reached the stage in life where comfort and quality count for more then anything else. I promise you that the 140 will have enough perfomance on tap to cope with just about anything you can throw at it, it is not a car designed to be chucked about, it is bit on the large side for that. Sit back and enjoy the relaxed, smooth and given the size and weight of the car, rapid pace that it provides, I promise you it is deceptively fast when you need it to be as well.
  15. What are the instructions for accessing the hidden menu? I know I accidently stumbled across the hidden menu once on my old model, problem was I couldn't remember how I did it :(
