  1. Not this year maybe next? There is always a chance we might try and get an entry in the odd race, but nothing planned this year. I think that they might have done it 2 years ago. I dont know the full line up yet. I dont think it has been officially announced, I know there are 2 drivers signed already and one is a very young chap, the second I dont know much about and the third is yet to be signed I think.
  2. I am working as a data enginner for a team called HS technik motorsport compeating in the German F3 series, I am the sole full time engineer so there is quite a bit of pressure, considerig that we are running 3 Dallara F3 cars, all of which I have to keep track of! Compared to last year where I was working doing the LMS and I went to LeMans doing the same job, with new LMP2 car where we had 2 guys doing data per car. Overall I am enjoying the challenge, and trying to learn german, having never learnt it at school, progress feels slow bt im sure I will pick it up.
  3. Thanks for the advise guys it has been helpful. Public transport may be a little less useful as im our in the sticks about 40 mins south of Wein. Im going to use skype and get an austrian card I think. I now have the EHIC card, so hopefully that should cover the basics, and I will hopefully have some health insurance from the employer. I will be based over there mostly now as of tomorrow. So should be fun. I am being emplyed by a Austrian race team as am engineer again so hopefully I will get to some interesting events again.
  4. Hi Im looking for some help. In just over a week i will be starting a new job in austria. Initially I am flying over there but later on I will be looking to take a car, what complications are there beyond things like insurance? Am I going to have the re regiser (I intend to bring whatever I take back with me)? What is the best thing to do about a mobile phone, am I best to have 1 uk phone and 1 austrian phone, or just keep the current one? Money is less of an issue because I will be payed in Austria, and I will look to send some back to the UK every month. I have to fill in an E111 for free health care, and I have been advised to make voluntery NI+state pension payments to keep those active. Are there any other potential problems or stumbeling blocks? I dont know anyone who has done this so any help is appreciated. Thanks
  5. This one is always fun. started with 850 cc mini (orange never drove it though just raided it for bits) 998 mini 30 998 mini (boght from 1 friend sold to another) 1275 mini sidewalk 205 rally 1.3 (french spec ultra rare) 205 rally 1.4 (english spec, crap but useful as an inbetween car/spares) 1275 mini cooper sportspack 1L 3 cylinder corsa Mk1 Octavia Vrs Audi A4 avant 1.9 TDI Lotus elise (still got) 535 (E34, bought as a track toy, but using everyday as I cant afford 2 cars at the mo, and salt doesnt go well with aluminium) and there is the Biota in resto Not a bad collection for 23 I think.
  6. If you have owned the car for a while it theroectially means that you have been driving it and parking it in you r usual manner and locations, and you have not had it stolen, or driven it in to a ditch/wall/other car etc. Therefore you are less of a risk, because you have a vague idea of the cars capabilities and the local chavs dont know hoe to get in to it. As for why adding older people as named drivers makes a difference I dunno that doenst make sense, but it works for me too.
  7. had tinned produce and dry packet foods (like cake mixes etc) at up to 10 years out of date. all tasted good, no-one died, its all good.
  8. I dont know about a 'proper' network, it is just what I have set up, and I am no networking expert, far from it. Yes i have a File server and that whole PC is also passworded, so any network files can only be acessed with the password. I cannot just save the data to this file server, all data will be backed up on to this routinly, but the inital save has to be on the source PC for the programs involved to be able to integrate correctly, also the program will not let me change the save location, so saving all data to the file server by default is not an option. I cannot just password the acess to the data PC because it will be necessary for some people to access some of the shared data from this PC, but not other bits. Also users of the network is going to change on a regualr basis, and configuring permissons all the time could prove to be a PITA.
  9. Right I have now set up the newuser account, added that to the security list, and it all works as it should between machines running XP, but when trying to acess the folder from any of the Vista machines all I get is an access denied box, any suggestions on how to fix this?
  10. Excellent thanks for that I will try it. Will this still allow other users to access other folders on the same PC without needing to enter the same password?
  11. A little more detail, it is a folder relating to data I have acquired. The computers the folder is on is an XP OS. It will mostly be accessed by people using Vista. Data will be added to the folder over time, and it is of prime importance that the folders contents can not be accessed or read by any unauthorized person who may have been granted access to the network. I apologize for the earlier information that was possibly a little mis leading.
  12. Hi Guys I am loking to be able to password a file that I have on my work network. Any ideas on how to do this? Thanks in advance
  13. The only way that anyone could enforce this is if the government were to either offer everyone free transport, or a grant to buy the cheapest car affordable at 5 years old. Neither of which are going to happen. Plus having old cars is going to be a license to print money by charging extra road tax, and at a guess I would tend to say that a 10 year old car is also less economical than its modern equivalent, therefore netting the government more money in fuel duty. As well as this there is the VAT they get from parts, which I would say older cars tend to need more often. Just my veiws, but can you see them banning old cars?
  14. Overtime whats that then? This week I think I have worked in the region of 55 hours, next week I suspect that will be closer to 65 or 70. Im only contracted for 40:eek: (although its not all bad im going to the ring for a week in March all paid for by work, if only I could get some free laps out of them too. hmmm)
  15. I think that you can add me and my old man to the list, maybe in a quattro, maybe in the lotus, or maybe something else probably wont be a skoda though.
  16. Just beacuse there are indicators fitted to a BMW doesnt mean that they work.
  17. It was a good meet, shame I had to leave so early, but crap weather and too many hours at the mo dictated for me unfortunalty. Lady E, hope the passenger door was good, dont think I leaft you a stripe. I nearly didnt make it far, happened to be quite slippy leaving. Least it was warm eh! Ill have to see if im gunna be able to make next month, may not be ablut depending upon how things go with testin etc. March is going to be a farily hecktic month. Failing that I should be about for April depending upon when I get back from Spain.
  18. Hi I have just taken apart the after market air filter I have on my car to clean it out. I have bought some cleaner fluid and some oil, but once I had brushed the rubbish out (and there was alot, in fact I could have grown trees in it), i noticed that the wire mesh in the filter had corroded and chunks of the mesh were missing. When I rinsed out the cleaner it is apparent that the corrosion has stained the filer medium, and whist there are no gaping holes, will it be ok for me to just re-oil it and put it back in the car, or is it passed its best and I need to try and get a new filter (Not something I want to do at circa £180). I suspect from inspecting the bills that this was never cleaned out by the previous owner, or the garage that did all his work, and that the filter has probably been on there about 3 years, and the previous owner had it for about 18 months, but didnt do many miles as he could walk to work.
  19. It is a 5 cylinder that is in it, the reason for it sounding muted is the turbo kills the noise. 10v cars really sounds much better with an after market system on them. And the color of the of the car they use is Mars Red, Tornado red cam along a couple of years later to replace it and is all together a richer deeper color. Having said that you wouldnt notice til you get them sat next to each other.
  20. As strange as it sounds when snow boarding in Canada I felt like i was the warmest I have ever been, had bit of a sweat on, despite only being in a T shirt by the end of the day! The energy of exercise soon counters some -2 weather on a relatively still day. Plus when you want to cool down just start a snowball fight, of fall flat on your ares. I want to go and try the new indoor slope there is next to the trafford centre as some point if anyone is interested, (or when I can afford it a trip abroad)
  21. Not when it would cost me less to repair myself than what it would cost in inflated premiums and excesses for the next couple of years.
  22. If you go to but a new one from lotus they are 2k region, but on ebay they can be had for as little as £150 ish. Just need painting/repairing
  23. It is a mini based kit car that was built in Dinnington in Sheffield from 1969-75 ish. Apparently only 35 (again ish) cars left the factory. It is called a Biota, it uses a mini front subframe and A series engine, bolted to a spaceframe chassis all clothed in fibreglass. It was designed originally to be the poor mans alternative to a lotus 7. Unfortunately it obviously never really took off. To read the full thread of how mine is progressing click the link in my sig at the bottom of any of my posts.
  24. I have bin in a car before when one went, it sounded like a shotgun going off. Not something your going to miss generally.
  25. I would say broken spring, worth looking at cause if it is it will have broken at the top, and is probably now on the body of the car.
