  1. So much great feedback. I am really grateful and not the least because we thought we were going a little mad. Atkinsong - thanks for your super full explanation. I now know exactly what to do. My car is covered by a Skoda apparently so as next step I shall see if this is going to be easy to sort or the subject of some negotiation. Here's hoping. Roon - while it is certainly not good to hear you have the same fault it is kind of good to know we are not alone with this issue and so it is more of a systematic fault rather than a broken car. Mac - I had not thought of narrowing the car down for negotiating slim gaps. Cars are getting so capable it is hard for the likes of me to keep up. Great suggestion. DevonDave - again good to hear that we are not alone and also to hear about the cure. Vectra - sounds like yours is already up to the latest spec. showing the way. Once again everyone thanks for your fantastic input.
  2. Colleagues So our new Octavia can fold its mirors which is great. This can be achieved by holding the lock key down on the key fob. It seems that as long as one leaves the mirror control knob on the "L" position they then unfold when you insert the key into the ignition. Or at least, on our Octavia, they sometimes do. On ours the mirrors sometimes do not unfold. Perhaps the left mirror, or maybe the right or even both. Does anyone know the logic or rules around this process and whether we might have an intermittent feature or whether there is some particular ritual required to get it to work all the time. Thanks in advance for your help.
  3. Thanks for the feedback on this rather obscure topic. I am loving the Bolero so far by-the-way. I would have been happy to have had DAB as well but only to access one channel not available on FM to be honest. It seems to work really well and its fairly easy to use. The steering mounted controls are also wonderful as I am not used to such luxuries.
  4. Colleagues So we now have possession of our pre-owned estate and it has been a time for playing and discovery. So I delved into Briskoda and found the topic which shows one how to access the secret radio menu showing signal strength. Here I discover that the radio has two aerials. Indeed that it uses two aerials. One on the roof and one (I believe) screened onto the right-hand rear side window (like the window heater). We have a lowly Bolero headset by-the-way. Anyone know anything about this? Do all estates have this arrangement or all Octavias? I do not know if the receiver has a diversity function where two RF sections receive and decode separate signals which are then switched to select the feed with the best signal or if the aerials are just wired together but I know that it at least claims to use both. One effect of this is that the signal strength of the radio does not change when the roof aerial is removed, In fact, at the moment, I could not prove that the roof aerial is even in circuit - I just assume it is. Any input gratefully received.
  5. Wow what a wide range of uses - and non users too. Glad a few people discovered the thingy by reading the thread too. Brilliant.
  6. Well that explains it. Thanks for putting me right on all that everyone - greatly appreciated. I bet the module is both costly and in some or other way difficult to fit - ho hum.
  7. Colleagues Have taken delivery of our 2010 Octavia estate. This has the Bolero audio unit. Within its set up there is an option to turn Bluetooth on (for audio not phone). Does this work on a standard Bolero or is it for use when some optional Bluetooth unit has been added. The reason for asking is that I can find no other reference to how to use it anywhere in the manual like how you might stream audio from a phone for example. Anyone have any ideas?
  8. Will take delivery of our Otavia II estate this week. There is a tray in the parcel-shelf position under a flap in the tonneau cover. I have seen mention of people using it for umbrellas which seems like a good idea. Was wondering though what else people have fount it useful for? Wondered if perhaps there is some really neat application that those with experience have sorted over the years. By-the-way; only posted my first post yesterday and as we do not even have the car yet I am still dealing with naive stupid stuff hence profuse apologies for that.
  9. Colleagues; Brilliant. So the 120 cm bars will fit when using the 757 feet. Glad to hear the Thule set up is well liked. I have a university run coming up for one of our daughters soon and want to be sure I can get everything in. Putting the top box on will ensure it. Much appreciated.
  10. Has anyone used Thule Aero bars on an Octavia Estate? I have a pair of 120 cm long bars and wondered whether they would be the right length to fit an Octavia estate (2010)? I would be buying the Thule 757 feet. I do not particularly want to splash out on the feet if they are not going to fit. I have searched and searched on the web but there is no advice anywhere (that I can find) as to which length of Aero bars will work with the Octavia Estate. Possibly because the Aero bars are no longer sold by Thule. So if you have an Aero set-up on your Octavia I would be really glad to hear from you. Thanks hugely in advance.
