Thought it was too good to be true. In fact on that website, all the other Skoda models with Canton are quoted as having 2 x 8 Ohm sub, so it wouldn't make sense that the Octavia is the only one with a 1 x 4 ohm option.

The Canton/Skoda website says it's 1x4 / 2x8 ohms. A 1 x 4 ohm driver is much easier to find than 2 x 8 ohm. So does that mean the 2 pairs of sub wires are joined at the amp end?

That was my thought too. I do plan to keep this one, but you never know. I'll give it a good look over this weekend and come up with a list of things that need further attention.

Thanks for that thought. I think the most annoying rattle is coming from inside the car, either back seat or door latch - though it's a nightmare to identify that sort of thing from the front seat!

My gut reaction was that it does sit a bit higher, but it's maybe only a matter of a few mils. I'm pretty sure it's a new bonnet - at least that was what they said would be done. I will get back to them about adjusting it. I checked out another Octavia at work and it's hard to tell if it's much different - probably needs a side by side comparison. I agree they must have fitted a non-VRS grill. I don't actually mind it bare, but if I ever come to sell on, the buyer will expect it to be there. Don't superskoda sell VRS badges that clamp on? The headlight aim seemed OK last night - i'll pay more attention tonight. It did need to go back to the dealer to get the coolant bled, but I guess they only did what they had to and wouldn't question the headlight aim. It's just great to have it back, even the old rattles have come with it!

After almost a month off the road after hitting a deer, my VRS is back! Makes you appreciate it even more when you have to go without. When it was dropped off today it was almost as exciting as the day I picked it up new. So I was checking out the work and thought that the bonnet seems to be sitting a bit higher than before. I was just comparing it to some pictures on the mega 'Post your pictures thread', when I though wtf, where's my VRS badge! Doesn't look too bad actually, and i'd been thinking about going black anyway. Would appreciate your thoughts on the bonnet height...….here's a before and after shot.

Yes, that quote was to redo the diamond cut too. It was cheaper without - can't remember how much different though. This was Wheelworks in Crawley. I haven't had it done yet though, so can't say how good the end result would be.

I know that feeling. I was quoted £90 + vat to fix this little mess.

I imagine the method is designed to target noise that is fairly continuous in duration and frequency, ie the constant drone of road or wind noise. Talking is rapidly varying in pitch, duration etc, so wouldn't be affected.

@coloneldolomite It did cross my mind that adding some soundproofing to the wheel arches could make a difference, but I didn't fancy tackling that. Would be interesting to hear how that goes if you decide to do it. @wellsy1 Whenever I've been a passenger in the car it always sounds quieter than when i'm driving - so maybe a lot of the noise does come through the drivers side bulkhead? @carrock It does seem odd that other cars can be noticeably quieter but have little obvious soundproofing. My wife's Fiesta isn't bad at all for noise, but there is bugger all insulation and the bodywork sounds like it is wafer thin. The skinny tyres probably help a lot though. I wonder how much of the noise is transmitted through the running gear/bodywork and isn't just airborne?

Hi wellsy. I've done a few bits of deadening so far (a fair bit more than I mentioned in the first post). Generally, yes, I think you're supposed to add some ccf on top of the silentcoat for best effect, but take a look at the deadening website for more information https://www.deadening.co.uk/pages/advice What I have done (so far): In the boot I added some 2mm silentcoat to the metal, then on top of the original floor I have a bit of left over carpet underlay followed by some mass loaded vinyl (https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-barrier-mlv-2-5m-roll) and then the rubber boot mat. From memory this helped quite a bit, with the MLV probably having the biggest effect. Around the sides of the boot I added 2mm silentcoat again and then a layer of MLV sandwiched between acoustic foam (similar to this stuff https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-sound-stopper-lite). In the front footwells I put down 2mm silentcoat, followed by dodo liner (https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-liner-ccf9) followed by MLV. And finally the front doors have 2mm silentcoat + dodo liner and a bit of eggbox style absorber foam behind the speakers. This was all done over quite a few months and every time I added something I think it helped a bit. As I recall the most noticeable effect came from adding the MLV in the boot. However I still think it's too noisy! But I know a lot of that comes from the Bridgestones at the front, so pretty soon i'll be looking to get those replaced by something quieter. It sounds like a lot of work, but it gets addictive after a while

I've applied some 2mm silentcoat and a layer of mass loaded vinyl to the boot area. I also did the same to the front footwells, but I think the boot made a more noticeable difference. Tyres next i think.

It's definitely Amundsen but i'm not sure its a MIB2. I've just checked mine and the display should look crisper and the text a bit smaller due to the different screen resolution. I could be wrong though.

Maybe some people are more sensitive to it than others, but it definitely varies from car to car. When I test drove my first Octavia I noticed the low frequency buffeting noise - fortunately the car I went on to buy was not affected in the same way, but it would still rumble a lot on certain road surfaces. They were both hatches with torsion beam suspension. I now have a VRS combi which is a bit better still.

@evan15281Did you ever get anywhere with this? I have what seems to be the same thing - a very annoying high frequency squeak from the rear of my combi. I've emptied the boot of contents, checked the spare is secure, tried the seats up and down, removed the retractable cover, but nothing has helped. I think its trim off next.

I've had an O3 1.4tsi and a now petrol VRS. On like for like journeys I got about 43mpg from the 1.4 and 33 from the VRS. The 1.4 was surprisingly good, but the VRS is so much quicker and (for me) well worth the drop in economy.

Yes, you're right, compromise is where it's at. I guess i'm looking for tyres more biased to refinement than performance, but that is totally subjective. However, any first hand experience on this forum is as relevant as it can be, so thank you all for your comments.

Care to elaborate? I haven't read a review that says the Goodyears are substandard in grip. I want to replace my noisy and pretty poor Bridgestones with something that is quieter, and by all accounts the F1A3 are a cracking tyre. The fact that they are also a good price isn't relevant. An alternative is maybe the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, but their noise rating is much higher. Maybe you could help me out and suggest a tyre that is quiet and has good grip (in your opinion that is).

Does anyone have a photo of their Gemini's with Goodyear F1A3 fitted? I want to replace my Bridgestones with something quieter, but i'm concerned about the supposed lack of rim protection on the Goodyears. Thanks in advance.

I know what you mean - you could imagine that it's the speed dependant system that is behaving erratically. I guess I could try turning off the speed dependant setting and see if it behaves more consistently.

It's a MIB2 Amundsen (June 2016 car) Like the OP said, you think you're going a bit funny in the head, as most times it's fine and then some days you need to have the volume twice as high as normal.

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I have the same problem. It will randomly go quiet one day, them the next day it's fine again. I can't find any pattern to it.
