-

HELP! Lost my locking wheel nut key in Reading.
NXPete replied to hardcorehobbit's topic in General Automotive Chat
you can buy lock nut remover kits http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/US-PRO-TOOL-7pc-1-2-drive-twist-socket-set-wheel-lock-nut-remover-removal-/331122638049?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4d18727ce1 they just act like an outside version of a screw extractor, i tried these when i bought my wife's Altea, only to discover there was no lock nut with the car, they just chewed the outside of the bolt head to bits and didn't shift, the other bolts took a 3' breaker bar to remove on the others i may add (and some jumping on the end of that) the option i ended up using in the end was to drill out the bolt, roughly a 6mm drill through the middle of the bolt then a 11.5mm into the middle of that, undo the other 4 bolts then rock the wheel until the head pops off, then used the screw extractor and a blowtorch to remove the stub left on the wheel, all this is a little extreme but if your bolts have been off recently the removers will probably do the job, obviously there will be cheaper ones around that was just the first on that popped up on ebay, the set i used was from halfords Pete -
1x 30mm blanking cap (silicone) 1x 25-16mm silicone reducer 1x 16mm plastic hose joiner 2m x 16mm silicone hose 2x 30-40mm jubilee clips and about 3-4 x 200mm cable ties thats all i used, and just ran it straight out, only difference would be locating and installing a catch tank in the line that's currently going to the floor Pete
-
i've played with catch tanks before on my wife's HDi citreoen (boo hiss) one time forgot to empty it and it made a lovely big poo pile on the driveway under the atmos vent, with the VRS.. straight hose out, no problems, no issues no leaky, and kept the hose elbow for MOT just in case, you have to consider all that oil going back into the system isn't going to be good for heat transfer on your intercooler which is likely to cause the whole engine to cause more pollution than the bit of oil vapour and steam from the cc vent

Probably the best car project I've ever seen...
NXPete replied to BossFox's topic in General Automotive Chat
i bet someone will be dissapointed when they get the other one.. GTR looks with cashcow performance haha -
from my experience with Cat D's, you never quite get it looking/feeling the same after an accident, panel lines are always a little off and other problems, such as leaks into the car from the back or leaks from the car in the front, that said my VRS is on 138k and is running 185bhp on standard turbo and smic with recently added uprated clutch, like the guys say, a well looked after car is probably going to be a safer bet than one that has already been written off that said i've had a couple of "mot" failures over the years that i've bought for a few quid and done up and they've gone on for years, just keep your eyes open, does depend on how handy you are around a garage mind Pete
-
i've had it previously when the regulator on the alternator gave out, was very whiny, however that was on a friends car with a stereo that was sucking upwards of 100Amps when at full chat, very impressive but rather short lived car Pete
-
it should get better as the interior dries out, i had problems with water inside the car making lots of condensation with my NX, new seals and a good going over with a wet vac and it was much better, if you're still having issues put a couple of the desiccant dehumidifier boxes in the back footwells, pick them up from the pound shop usually, helps trap some of the moisture in the car Pete
-
ok i know its not the calipers but the colour match on pantone 348 is pretty good just messaged the guy at the paint shop on ebay and they made it up for me in a couple of rattle cans, easy peasy http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Transpares-Online?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 Pete

A mechanical question from a Fabia Owner.
NXPete replied to Sahuagin's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
looks to be the solenoid on the starter motor (circled) but wouldn't explain the sticky clutch, well unless the car is trying to move all the time then you will be overloading the starter as you're trying to move the car as well as turn the engine Pete -
looks good, just a shame you couldn't make the rest of the corsa disappear :P
-
+1 for Xman, just had a hybrid GT1544v from him and fitted to my wife's 1.6 hdi citroen, goes much better... now for re-map hehe Pete
-
been a while, just thought i'd pop on a little update bonnet lifter and pasty badge fitted and after my wifes citroen shat a load of oil through the turbo via the crankcase the classic "elephant mod" seen a few guys asking about which bits they'd need 1x 30mm blanking cap (silicone) 1x 25-16mm silicone reducer 1x 16mm plastic hose joiner 2m x 16mm silicone hose 2x 30-40mm jubilee clips and about 3-4 x 200mm cable ties Pete

hi guys, my clutch has started slipping on the VRS fabia, 2005, not a biggie at the moment but isn't going to get any better i'd like a more sporty feel to the thing so i'm tempted to go SMF rather than dual mass any recomendations of what clutch to get? i've already done a search and i'm thinking SACHS, not sure if the car is re-mapped or not but something that would take upto 200hp would be preferable for future mods, oh and not too expensive either! haha Pete
-
i had this problem finding the colour, found the easy option in the end http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Transpares-Online?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 asked them for Pantone 348, got a couple of rattle cans and laquer later hope the pic works http://s293.photobucket.com/user/demon10k/media/IMAG0337_zps70c7182d.jpg.html
