Car sorted today, turns out it was the front left suspension level sensor for the self levelling lights! Cost just under £200 to get it sorted! Relieved it's done as travelling to work in the dark was getting a bit dodgy with the lights pointing at the ground, probably only illuminated about 8ft in front of the car!!! This is supposed to be "safe mode" when their in fault!! More like "Bloody dangerous mode"

Thanks for the rrply but the problem is I have no access to VCDS so can't determine the fault, If I do guess at the module I have no idea which one it is and mentioning the software level has confused things more! Plus looking on E-bay they make no reference to software levels so it really would be a stab in the dark!!!

I've check the levelling sensors which look fine and as they were still levelling upon start up the first few times the fault appeared during driving I fear its going to be water ingress in one of the light modules which have been mentioned on other posts, the VAG specialists I am taking it too have all the latest VCDS software and as they see every conceivable VAG car they have seen the fault on numerous occasions so they good idea of what it will initially! Just the costs I have read for repairing it sound horrendous! Seen £400 quoted on one VW forum! What with £50ish for a xenon lamp and possible repair bills like this for faults makes you wonder if that extra bit of light is worth it especially as the cornering lights are so subtle its hard to notice much difference!!!

My Elegance came up with the "No bend lighting, AFS function" fault 2 days ago and for the first couple of trips after would be OK for about 10 mins of driving until the fault appeared, the lights were still doing the self levelling dance when starting the car. Now the fault light is on permanent, get the same message everytime, even when the lights aren't on, the lights don't self level anymore and I don't know if it's me but they seem to be pointing a bit more to the ground! I've got it booked in with a VAG specialist but was hoping if anyone has had the same fault rectified so I've got an idea what it could be and what damage to the wallet as I've seen some scary prices on other VAG forums for the same fault to be fixed but admittedly at Main Stealers! Ok mate, fair do's, sounds like you know what your talking about, sounds hypocritical after what I wrote but personally would only have tyres I know too but I know plenty of people who use budgets due to money constraints and seem happy! Thought it might be worth a try but can totally understand why you'd be wary!!!

I know this goes against every bone in your body but I personally wouldn't be too hasty in changing the tyres, look them up and see what ratings they get for noise, wet weather and grip, if they come out ok why not give them a go, you never know they might not be as bad as we fear, your not going to race them, the summers coming so it should be getting warmer and, er, drier!Why spend over £200 on 4 new tyres when it's got 4 new tyres on it!! If it wasn't for seeing Michelins in the pics do you think you'd be changing the tyres if had come with 4 new Three-A tyres from the start?

As yours is an L&K I imagine it's got all the bells and whistles, also being a diesel they have a heavy cranking current, it will need around a 74ah battery, some sites will recommend a 70ah battery but I'd always go for the bigger capacity battery, I've got a 170 4x4 Elegance, so simular spec, as a personal rule I always go for Varta batteries but Bosch are as good, get what you pay for! That said, my Dad works in a parts department, a year ago I asked for a Varta or Bosch he came back with an Exide battery, slightly cheaper normal price but got better discount on it so a lot cheaper after! It's been Ok but it's not been on for long so can't be sure how long it will last!!!

Hi mate, just going back to your original post, did it specify the car had Michelins in the add? If so why did they make a big deal about it? It's not being sold as per the add and your being mislead in to what your buying!! I'd argue misrepresentation!If it didn't and as long as the new tyres are the correct speed rating as much as they've mislead you, in law they've done all they need to do! I've got a 170 4x4, it's great, you can feel it's more stable on the road, you'll love, I use mine for towing a 1450kg caravan, like the reviews say one of the best tow car out there, surprised not to see more!

I had a Thermisto straighened last year and I've been happy with the result, cost £60, a lot cheaper than a new one and worth trying in my opinion

As far as I am aware Westfalia make VAG cars towbars, I know they did for my MK1 Superb and also my Octavia before that, I found a Westfalia towbar on the net for a lot less than a Skoda branded Westfalia towbar! I'm not sure if its still the case for the MK2 Superb as my car came with a already fitted fixed towbar so I have never looked in to it! But I highly recommend the Westfalia removable towbar from my experience! The locking mechanism is click in and go, which is lockable and removal is just turning a knob and its drops out! I beleive many have copied this idea since! I also found that as Westfalia is a VAG supplier that the Octavia bumper had a cut out already to suit and the Superbs had an outline moulded into it that was the correct cut for that specific towbar! If I had to buy one for my car I wouldn't hesitate to buy Westfalia even if VAG didn't use them anymore!

As sad as this sounds but on an episode of Wheeler dealers they had a MFD replaced on a Audi TT cluster thats had pixels missing! If I remember correctly it was about £100, If you can find it on YouTube you might see the company name, Apparently VAG say it's a non-servisable part, unsurprisingly, but these guys can do it.

Hi Hawkeye, where abouts are you? I'm in Leicester and I used the Lion Garage who are VAG specialists! It cost me £381 to have the timing belt, timing belt kit, water pump, which should always be done as you'd regret it if you didnt, and haldex oil, it was all original VAG parts as pattern parts weren't available at the time, Skoda quoted me £350 just to do the cambelt, no water pump! Lion Garages are East Midlands franchise with about 7 garages mostly in Leicestershire, can't fault them, especially the Leicester branch, always had top notch, reasonably priced work done by them. Hope this helps.

I have a Elegance with the tyre check system on it, I know it's a crude system that uses the ABS sensors but I have found it's not that accurate, I've had it warn me when I put my steel spare on after a puncture but not warn about the puncture, then today I was looking over my car as I could hear a suspect noise from the front when turning right, feared it could be a CV joint or wheel bearing but the noise was oscillating and was more or less on every wheel turn, whilst looking noticed the tyres looked low, checked them and both fronts were a 1.4bar instead of the 2.3bar the petrol flap says! Pumped the up and hey presto noise gone!!! Think the noise must have been the tyre scrubing!!! Anyone else not convinced by the tyre pressure monitoring system on our Superbs!?

It's the uncertainty that I'm concerned about and I'm sure there are going to be plenty of traders/dealers who are going to use the scandal to there advantage, especially as anyone can check on the Skoda website which are effected cars!

Dispite initially the Skoda website clearing my Superb I got the dreaded apology letter today! The Skoda website now agrees! I had been planning to sell or part-ex mine next year! I am now concerned that due to the uncertainty about what the fix might do to the Engines performance, power and fuel consumption tied with how long the fix will take to be done that its going to affect what my car is worth! Has anyone had any issues or have any idea of what effect this has had with selling on affected cars!? Cheers

Turbo actuator on mine too, limp mode and all that, especially when accelerating from around 60mph to 70mph, replaced for around £250 by a VAG specialist, they diagnosed the problem straight away. For around that money I'd pay to get it done properly and forget the cheap fixes as the chap who I know at the VAG garage said it all nonsense! the actuator is a common fault and they do at least 1-2 a week across the VAG range of cars!

I know its more or less what you hope for with a Skoda but I think if you expect it to pass thats when you get bitten! My 58 Superb 4x4 passed its 3rd Mot since I had it, thats now 4 Skodas, 1 Octavia and 3 Superbs over 12 years and not one MOT failure, thats pretty good to me!

BD, You could always fit a Smartcom split charge relay, They are rated at 30amps and are designed for the split charge supply to a caravan which is how I found out about them as I have a caravan, they give a constant supply and also 2 switched supplys thats only switched when the alternator is at a certain voltage, I use an electric coolbox in the boot when travelling and whenever we stop I had to remember to un plug it, I have now wired in the Smartcom relay into the original boot 12v socket supply, it now supplies that socket with a constant 12v as before but I now have an extra socket which is the switched supply for the cool box, works really well and simple to install. http://www.split-charge-relays.co.uk/contents/en-uk/p136_smartcom-split-charge-relay.html

My clutch on a 4x4 was replaced due to a rattle sound, it was thought that as it's a DMF and made up from many parts including springs and plates, I bowed to their knowledge and had it replaced at a cost of £1200, cost extra as it's a 4x4, I saw the clutch and it was worn but imagine my surprise when the rattle hadn't gone! bloody turned out to be the starter motor not properly disengaging and catching the clutch ring gear teeth! Another £200!

Hi all, I have 2009 170TDi 4x4 and noticed the other day a slight squeak coming from the rear of the car when I got out if it, I found that when I rocked the car on both sides there is a slight and not very loud squeak coming from the rear suspension, you can't hear anything when driving, I can't see or hear where it is coming from, any ideas or is a bit of suspension sqeak to be expected?

definitely no need to remove the fuses, it only moves a bit but thats all it needs!

All you need to do is if you look on the back of the fuse box as per the picture (which is a golf fuse box but the same in principle) you will see in the middle, top of the pink back a tag which you flick over this allows the whole pink bit to slide down, find a empty spare fuse way opposite a supply connection, be careful there are quite a few blank fuse ways with no supply at all, its easier to see from the fuse side if there is a connection for the top of the spade fuse, then in the opposite side you can push in a repair cable like the one on the ebay link, the link is just an example of the cable i'm referring to, you can get many size cables depending on the current size you are needing, it had a barb on it and locks in place, once in push the pink back plate up till the tag locks it back in place, then you can fit a normal blade fuse in your new supply, I did this for a supply for a auto mirror, I did notice that on two of the distribution bars on the back of the fuse box a push on tag, one switched, one permanent, my tow bar electrics had been connected to these and then wired through in-line fuse,

I've got 18" Themistos on my Superb and they feel every little bump in the road like you say even if it looks totally flat, theres a bit of road I drive on thats a 60mpg corner and they've put down that grippy surface and it feels like I'm driving over a wash board! It's vanity over comfort! lol
