  1. Hello to all. I recently lost my key for the car. I have one on order from Skoda in York, it is costing £99-99 for the key and £50 to pay for the key to be programmed, Question is...... If I was to obtain a used key and fob from a breaker can it be programmed to work on my 2013 Octavia?. Thank you for reading this, Best Regards to all, George.
  2. thanks to everyone that replied, am very grateful. i shall endeavour to read the manual, its always a last resort for me, first I have to find it! Hi Mac thanks for the comment, I will let Brisky know if i decide to leave and give thanks to all who have been so good to me with advice, I can't foresee it happening in my lifetime though Best regards to all, George
  3. Hi, just a quick question and quick answer please. if for any reason my Octavia suffered a completely dead battery would it be possible to get into the car ? Fortunately I don't have that problem and hope I never will but I have a very good imagination, I don't want any technical details just a yes or no is sufficient, ( I don't want any useful info to go to potential car thieves ) Thank you for taking the time to read this. Best regards to all. George
  4. I had a similar problem some years ago when the kids were at home so took the bulb out of the holder and told the (teenagers at that time ) that the place needed rewiring. I left a small torch on a shelf outside the bathroom. that solved the problem until they left hole then replaced the bulb as I entered older age and needed to visit the small room more often, Best regards to all George
  5. Hi Mr G and Jona re still got time to perfect the Yorkie accent, I don't think I will live long enough! I always spoke proper and understand that it is a skon sounding like gone Best regards to all.
  6. Hi Yorkiejona I will make a deal with you. if you look after my Coonty Durum I will take care of your home land during my time in North Yorkshire, you can never tell when we may need to make a break for freedom and head home. I have lived down the bottom end of North Yorks of over 30 years and still can't talk proper! but I love it here, I was always fond of Durham county but you have to be careful what you say to some of the locals. I was once almost mob lynched because I mistook a Makem (Sunderland) for a Geordie ( Newcastle) Best regards to all, George)
  7. Thanks for the info folks, I shall be taking it all on board, Sorry about my late response but my pc was updated and wiped all the passwords off and I couldn't read my cryptic writing in my little book to regain them Its good to be back I just hope that everything ( pc wise ) holds together for a while Best regards to all, George
  8. Hi all. I am about to replace my old halogen lights on the drive, I am thinking of using LED lamps if this is possible, (working off mains not batteries) Currently one of my lamps is auto turned on when it gets dark the other is PIR Detector I dont know what is on the market in this field, I would prefer the auto sensor above the PIR one Has anyone got reccomendations please, also what to avoid, Thanking you good citizens in advance, Best regards to all George
  9. My daughter and I were discussing that issue just last night, I told her that I look past the offending light to the kerb but slow down a lot if the offending light is out of focus, not that I drive particularly fast in poor light conditions, she replied "BRAILE " I asked what she meant and she said just drive by touch, like blind readers! In the daylight i had a quick look at here car, her answer was most likely true Best regards to all. George
  10. After 50 years of work, I am retired and can honestly say that the role I have now is the worst ever, I am retired! unfortunately my wife does not understand that it means not working, each evening she gives me a task for the next day just before I get into bed, I don't know if she deliberately waits until then so I can't sleep thinking about the job the next day or if she is just using the opportunity as a passion killer! ( she should understand that she is safe, no man looks forward to bedtime with a grandmother) The bad thing about being retired is that the boss is always around, I can't phone in sick ( not that I used to in regular employment ) I can't get a day off and I don't get time off on a bank holiday. Best regards to all, George.
  11. Hi I think it is called Airmin Garage but not sure, it is on the left side if you come from the new roundabout at Glues garage all the buildings are on the right hand side, the left hand is the flood banks that keep the river at bay, you can't miss it as you drive slowly up as it is on the road side, best of luck with it, you will get good treatment from the owner best regards to all. George
  12. Hi Mac, thanks for the thought, I have been giving the medical profession a challenge over the last few weeks and no, I don't go onto other forums because there is all the entertainment on this one. I have not been able to reply to any of the posts over the last few months though I am constantly checking them on my mark 1 iPad which has developed a habit of crashing when I try to send a post, as I can't find any valves in it to check I have had to wait until i got back home and am using the iMac my son bought me 2 years ago, the problem with this machine is operator error, I just don't know what I am doing! Anyway thanks for thinking about me I appreciate it. Best regards to all, George
  13. Please peoples, can you start talking in the language I understand? I really can't get my head around all the tech talk. being as I am a Geordie is handicap enough, I am still trying to learn English but am running out of time fast (72 years old) but when it comes to reading about chips and stuff it only sets my mouth drooling and I start looking for the salt and vinegar, when I start reading about bits and that sort of stuff I start to go all dizzy but I don't mind that because it saves me going to the pub. My tech ability is still back to the post war cars that needed their swiggle trees adjusted! Google that one? a clue is that it is on the hand brake system. does that make your brain hurt? then now you know how I feel with all this new language I have to try to decipher Best regards, George
  14. Quite often on this and most other forums people like to let off a bit of steam about other folks, I would like to offer my contribution to the other side of life and enquire if anyone has had a similar experience they would like to share? I have to drive into my garage nose first as if I reversed into it I can't open the drivers door, ( the entrance is on the left of the garage ) therfore I have to reverse out of it and pull in the driver side mirror, it is a tight fit, sadly yesterday morning I was a bit careless and rubbed the driver side wheel arch on the door post, I wasn't happy but accepted that I was getting old and should have been more careful. I went to the local body shop to see if he could do anything for me but he didn't even look at the damage and said that he was booked up until next year, then walked away, I guess that the job wasn't worth enough to him, Next I drove to a well known local body shop who took my details and said to come back next week when they would get one of their engineers to asses the damage. I said is it possible for someone to have a quick look and maybe give a rough estimate, more on how long the work would take rather than the cost as I have quite a few hospital visits to attend, but the guy told me that they were all too busy so I told him to forget it. As a last resort I drove down to a village called Airmyn near Goole, about 15 years ago I had used the garage to have a motorbike trailer sprayed and an indian chief head on the lid, all done to match the Goldwing I had at the time, When went in to the workshop he was on his back under a van fixing it. he came out and looked at the wheel arch then went back inside to fetch an extension cable and a polisher then proceeded to polish out the mark which had not broken through the paint, it took him about 10 minutes to complete the job then refused to take any cash from me, he said he remembered the trailer job and gave me the paint code number that he used on it, I tried to insist that he take payment for the job but he said no chance, and went back into his workshop this morning I took him a box of tea bags and a load of biscuits as a thank you, he was delighted and invited me to stop and have cuppa with him but I was in a bit of a rush. I just wanted to share this to show that there are still some people around who will do good turns for the sake of it. Best regards to all, George
  15. Last Wednesday I was in B & Q, an old guy was buying about 20 electrical fittings, sockets etc, he put them on the counter to pay and the lady on the till asked him if he wanted to buy a bag to put them in, he said no thanks but I would like a hand to convey them to my car, Lady replied that there was no one available, he said ok, if you can't give a customer a bag or some help I will do it myself, he turned to me and said sorry about the delay and picked up 2 items then walked out of the shop to his car saying that she should look after them until he came back for the rest, He was parked outside of the exit but had to walk about 50 yards to come in the entrance and pick up another 2 items, so he repeated the last remark but the assistant decided to put the rest on another counter adjacent, when he came in he said he demanded a recount because she had caused him to get confused about how many he had in the car, the manager was called who picked up the rest of the items and accompanied the old guy to his car to check that the total was correct, as he was walking out of the store he said to the crowd that it was still possible to get a bit of service in England but you had to work at it, It seems that it takes a bit of guile to out smart some of the youths of today. best regards to all.
