  1. Thanks for replying goneoffSKion1 The garage they took it to was one i've used before and i think that they are trust worthy Haven't checked oil recently It was due a service - it's been about a year since it was done. MOT was done in July - that was last time it was worked on. They said FIT would be about £5-6-700 quid kind of ball park but i would have to source and supply myself. I've no idea how much an engine cost or how you would know if it's a good one. Parkers is saying car is worth about £2300 so i'm wondering if it's worth it. or whether it's time to start thinking about replacing. I'm absolutely gutted as it's only done 69k
  2. Advice needed, car lost power yesterday, coasted it to side of road. Recovery guy said he thinks its starter. Towed me to garage. Garage says "engine seized" and i'll need a new / reconed one - they would fit but not supply. They said that the dipstick showed like it had been overfilled with oil - but i haven't done that - any idea what could have caused that? How much an engine would cost? would it be worth it? Car is skoda fabia estate 1.4 PD greenline (08 plate) Thanks Lou
  3. That sounds great - the reviews seem almost too good to be true. I would have gone for something similar but I was persuaded with the idea that mine could be used outside the car also and I'm glad i did as I use it at my desk at work for listening to my music - it works great.
  4. Errrm - Great news - my aux input from my samsung hs3000 bluetooth set now works. Slightly embarrassed to admit this but hopefully it may help an other user. The "noise" / "interference" I could hear was because the the volume on the headset was actually really low. So the car was amplifying a really quiet input thus generating noise. I figured out that I could adjust the volume of the Bluetooth output by switching off Bluetooth on my phone and then using the volume controls, if I did it while connected it just adjust the phone volume which was pointless. So i switched the car stereo down and the Bluetooth output volume up and now I don't have interference. It works great for calls, music and sat nav. Thanks Louis
  5. Thanks for your answer George I haven't really been blasting it at all, I was trying to see best mpg available. The car has 43k on the clock I really hope you are wrong about it needing replacing as it is not something I have budgeted for. This is the first time i've had the light in 500miles. Now my concern has turned to worry.
  6. So far so good until my journey to work this morning saw me get a DPF light. I didn't expect to see one as I thought my regular journeys would have been enough to keep it clear. I was driving to work early this morning so the roads were clear, it's about 13 mile run and the light came on (or at least I only noticed it) about 2 miles from work - Today I took the A road route and was probably doing about 40mph for the whole journey, For the last 2 miles where I could I upped the revs to about 3000rpm and was prepared to drive past work until the light wen't out. But just before I got to the turn to work the light went out so I just drove into work as normal. My usual daily commute is 13 miles A roads on the way in probably averaging 30mph, and on the way home about 5 miles a road, 10miles clearish motorway - should that be enough to keep it clear without seeing a light? I've had the car for 13 days and driven 500 miles - including 2 longer runs out (4 really as there and back were separate journeys) - so i was expecting it to be clear. Should I be concerned about the light coming on? or am I just being paranoid? Thanks Lrmulli
  7. So the new cable didn't really fix the interference - I'm going to try and send that cable and the bluetooth adapter back to Amazon. I'll be interested to hear how the Belkin fairs! Has anybody else had interference issues when using the aux socket? if so did you find a fix? Lrmulli
  8. My Bluetooth connector arrived today - I haven't tested anything fully yet but I have noticed that I get interference, I have tested with the 3.5mm-3.5mm straight into my phone and the interference is still present (so it's not the bluetooth causing). It's like a a background hissing and you only really hear it in quiet sections of songs or between tracks. It may be a fault specific to my car. I have ordered this to see if it improves the situation - otherwise i'm not sure what I'm going to do. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0037NYYFY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Lrmulli
  9. I ordered this today - plan to use it in the car along with the aux-in http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-HS3000-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B004XYI998/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377012202&sr=8-1&keywords=hs3000 Got a short 3.5mm-3.5mm cable and i will just leave it by the hand brake. I'll be using it with my android phone and it should work for calls also. I also considered this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Car-Audio-Connect-AUX-Bluetooth/dp/B004FNYQZ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377012348&sr=8-1&keywords=belkin+caraudio
  10. I collected my car on friday - and so far I love it! I went and filled up with Shell FuelSave diesel on saturday and reset the trip computer. I had a long weekend off work this weekend so I've had a few runs out in it, with wife baby pram, car seat etc etc all fitting in nicely and had a run out to Southport on Sunday morning (a mix of mway and A roads) and on Monday I had a run up to Llangollen in north Wales to visit my grand parents which is is probably a 50/50 split of mway & dual carridgeways and hilly country roads. So according to the computer I have achieved 71mpg so far which i am very pleased with. I used the website provided above by bluecar1 to get the spec of the car and interestingly it looks like a few alterations must have been done post delivery as there is no mention of spare wheel on the spec yet it has one - and even more interestingly it has parking sensors which weren't specified. I'm wondering if the parking sensors are after market ones because i read you get a display on the dance screen when reversing with the factory fit ones. On mine I get no display but seem to have a speaker on the interior roofline just where the hatch opens which beeps and flashes red when in reverse - i've also noticed that the music volume doesn't reduce when reversing - does this sound like an aftermarket set? It took me no time at all getting used to the gearing - I'm coming from a 1.9 diesel Megane and the gearing really isn't that different - although I have tried to put it into 6th a few times on the motorway :-0 Thanks for everybody's help on this thread - it has been much appreciated. Lrmulli
  11. Great - I will do this when I collect on Friday - thank you
  12. I did the deal, at £5200 + my car which they valued at 350 but I had value at closer to 600 so I got it for about 5600ish as there valuation of my megane was probably fair as its a heap of junk. I pick it up on Friday, still not sure about esp as I couldn't find a switch. Looking forward to getting it. I think the gearing will take a bit of getting used to but it shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good car Thank you to everyone who has helped Louis
