  1. a lot of dyno lottery being played...only as accurate as the operator wants it to be
  2. just says terminal 15 relay, the chap told me it was behind the clocks
  3. yeah its a lot I know, my mate who runs his own small local garage said I got ripped but I asked if he thought he would have been able to locate the fault and he said probably not as you said just glad its all fixed really. was worried it was a lot worse!
  4. turned out to be just a faulty relay! £11+vat for part £197+vat for labour was back on the road the next afternoon
  5. yesterday while sat in a traffic queue the engine cut out as if I stalled or ran out of fuel, but there was no lights on the dash the radio was still on and my windows worked but the air con turned off and all needles on the clocks dropped to zero I tried to restart the engine and there was nothing, no lights on the dash, no turn over. Very worrying at the time! I called RAC out and checked the battery voltage was ok, checked the fuses even checked the timing belt was still there! eventually RAC man turned up, checked everything I had already checked and then started scratching his head. Tried connecting to the obdc but no ignition no comms it seemed. So he towed me to a Vag specialist in Bristol and told me he suspected the fault was in the instrumental cluster which would need repairing or replacing. Today the garage called me to say they've actually traced the fault back to a Relay, part is ordered and car should be ready this afternoon with a £250 bill. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone know what relay they are referring to? and should this be the cause, is this a sign of things to come? 2008 Octavia vrs 2.0d 105k Cheers
  6. Easy tiger, I didn't suggest you couldn't afford it.... far from it. Personally speaking, I had no idea you could do this and I don't know anyone that has done so. chris_1d had a clear reason for doing so that makes sense
  7. Ahh oh dear that'll teach me not too read the first post.. missed the half way part In that case I fully agree with you! I've never bought a car on finance myself (considering it next time) bit baffled by the notion of handing a car back half way through a finance agreement though and can only think of 2 good reasons why you'd want to.. either you don't like the car anymore or circumstances have changed and cant keep up with the payments each to their own
  8. you sure? I don't see how you have voluntarily terminated anything... if the contract states x deposit and 35 additional payments of xx with an optional final payment then you have fulfilled the original agreement.. So how can you be penalised for not taking that extra option? and why would that even appear in your credit history since its not additional credit but simply a purchase?
  9. lol someone's getting a pay out as already said, stay classy, professional and nothing silly and he'll get what's coming to him and his business
  10. the paint on my spoiler is ruined so I've been toying with wrapping (professionally not by me) thought about doin the whole spoiler and just doing the main piece in the centre and leaving the ends blue. seen the latter on an R34 in blue. would be interested in seeing someone else's already done
  11. ok brilliant mate thank you for that Will have to get ringing around the stealers now
  12. oops ah I completely forgot about the chrome handle to open the door lol thanks for the part numbers I looked them up and found a blow up diagram on some foreign site, I can see you have said its the "upper shell" trim but it doesn't look like anything has snapped on the end there? could it be the "lower shell" 1Z1 867 175 C47H
  13. yes the handle pulls upwards away from the plastic surround something seems to be missing from there. here's a couple pics
  14. I have a handle but there is nothing in the door card which the handle secures to? So I can lift the handle up out of place
  15. Hi does anyone know if the clip which holds the end of the plastic trim/interior handle is a replaceable part? Apologies I know its not a lot to go on! AFAIK its a little white clip, its not visible unless you remove the trim and it holds the handle end in place. I can get a photo of where its supposed to be if needed. Mines gone, just don't know if it snapped off or if it screws in or whatever?
  16. +1 nozzle, replaced mine recently.. not cheap for what they are (bout 7quid) but mine was full of crap and ended up in the bin during a fit of rage
  17. mine are the same I play around with the switch on the right stalk seems best when set to the far left
  18. Hi just incase anyone is interested in some retro style badges and cant wait till the next GB I have my set which I bought from Pastyboy a few months back but I didn't get around to fitting them other than the steering wheel centre badge. I've changed my mind on fitting now so if anyone would like to buy mine off me they are available. I have got a full set of retro badges (front, rear, 4x wheel centres and steering wheel centre). Cut for pre-fl mk2 Octavia. the steering wheel badge has been used so will need some extra adhesive the rest are still in the envelope unused. I'm not allowed to post in the for sale section so hopefully this friendly but shameful post wont annoy anyone too much. PM me if your interested
  19. I'll be honest, you've lost me at present they don't deduct private mileage just a monthly Fuel Deduction of £30 from my salary. (However they are going to change that and start deduction for actual miles post April) I record my business mileage in a diary for my own information. At the end of the tax year I think they estimate my mileage from the quoted odometer readings given when I fill up and send me a P11d which I then use to fill in a P87 form and send to hmrc. before I started my tax code was 899, it went up to 914L (stopped bupa) followed by 944 and has since dropped to 912L but I haven't received a notification from hmrc for the most recent change (which was for Feb pay)
  20. I do, it's my responsibility to cover all costs to run the car other than the Fuel.
  21. good day for it! not done much over winter myself only the odd short ride every now and again but went out yesterday around the moors in Newport. Have been saying for months that I'll splash out on a new mtb to go up bike park wales but cant bring myself to part with the cash still smashing the Velodrome?
  22. yes mate one and the same! at the moment my tax code is all over the place and I'm not sure what adjustments have been made to it but I haven't claimed mileage before so I'm expecting a lump sum come June followed by an adjustment going forward but what I'll get I don't know as I don't really understand how its worked out. presumably I wont actually be paid 10,000x0.45 and 15,000x0.25 just the tax on the total but that would be nice haha. As for a benefit in kind, I was under the impression that I was paying a static fuel deduction every month to stop the fuel card being one. from April the static fuel deduction will be replaced by actual fuel cost for personal use. I had my new fuel card through in the post its just a Barclaycard as opposed to my allstar fuel card
  23. where was that too and on what car? Given the choice, I'd pay the extra to have a better than entry level car. Certainly making money from the CA is appealing but when I'm spending 60% of my working day in the car I'd prefer something abit more luxurious with abit of poke than a bog standard focus or insignia and the vrs fits the bill, only the xenons are missing for me
  24. well it does say in the quote above "the company will now pay the full amount of AMAP to the employee as a net payment (e.g. No Tax or NI), in return for an adjustment to the gross car allowance" but to be truthfull I haven't got a F'kin clue hence the post. I asked a colleague if he understood the factors of the change and he spoke about maximum claims being exceeded due to the number of miles we do and that we will still have to claim some relief back off hmrc..... I'm more lost now than when Lost was on tv
  25. tried to post a table of the old vs new breakdown but it didn't work
