  1. Hi all, I woke up this morning to my high level break light cracked and hanging off at both ends. I’m completely lost as to how this has happened overnight?.....cold, wet weather? Is this a known issue / weakness? I’ve got it booked in with my local dealer to check it out. I’m hoping its not expensive to replace. My car is a 2013 Octy Estate vRS if it matters.
  2. It does work fine with a Mac. The problem is that macOS likes to put lots of its metadata in the root of any file system. Columbus doesn't like it and that metadata needs to be removed before the Columbus will begin the upgrade process. Here's a post I wrote a few years back on how to clean up the metadata: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/316642-new-maps-now-available-to-download/page-4#entry3900795
  3. Whilst I've had 2x stage1 false positives in 3 years due to passing trucks on narrow carriageways in France, I have nothing but praise for Front Assist. It saved my bacon once when a car behind was madly honking their pedestrian friend (causing me to look in my rear view and taking eyes off the road for a split second) and almost at the same time, a white van broke heavily in front me. We were only travelling at 30mpg but I would've probable hit the van in front.
  4. Are you kidding me? The French are far worse...particularly the south of France. Down right dangerous driving most of the time, tons of tailgating and parking mayhem. They have no problem boxing you in and bumping your car forward if they can't get out of a space. Dents R Us.
  5. I had it done on mine back in 2013. The bodywork treatment was good but only lasted 3-4 months. The interior is where the value is - the kids have spilt god knows what in the back and its been easy to clean. Its not worth the £250 though - take to a detailer.
  6. Thule Wingbars Edge here on a VRS Estate. Expensive but no wind noise or whistling that I can hear. Take out that rubber strip from the track however and its whistles constantly about 45 MPH. Word of warning though. If you have the Black Pack (black painted roof rails), the rubber clamps on the Edge will damage the paint no matter how well you clean it before hand. Protective strips help.
  7. Yep, I agree. When I drive down to Monaco, I don't see any Mk3 Octavias at all. vRS or otherwise.
  8. Thanks for the heads up - already booked the Ferry sadly. This year sees my 2nd round trip to Cannes. Last year was excellent in our VRS. It just eats up the miles. ACC really comes into its own on such a long drive. I even turned on Lane Assist. Quite surprising to see no French vRS' on the roads there......or any Skoda really.
  9. If there any issue placing the tag where they tell you (see link below) near the Lane Assist camera on the vRS? https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/support/faq/support-Faq.List/#3.0.
  10. I'm amazed at how many people see so many O3's let alone vRSs. In the 19 months I've had mine, I can count the number of O3's I've seen on 2 hands and the number of vRSs on one. I guess it depends on where you live.
  11. I concur. Did a 2500 mile round trip to sud de france back in September and ACC was a real asset. The car just ate up the miles with very little fatigue at the end. Because the autoroutes aren't lit down south, you could really see how good the Xenons on the vRS are too. It was also our first trip with a roof box. Even after purchasing the most aerodynamic roof bars and roof box I could afford, there was a 5-6MPG hit but thankfully hardly any wind noise. I enjoyed the road trip so much we're doing it again in the summer.
  12. I hate roof boxes but I had to reluctantly give in for the same reason. A black glossy roof box complements the car very well.
  13. I have a Black Magic vRS. It looks awesome when clean but by Jaga is it tough to keep it that way. In my experience, the 2 bucket method with a pressure washer goes a long way to keeping the car swirl free. I tried Snow foam but found it made little difference. One thing I have noticed is the paintwork scratches really easily
  14. I get that we're always bombarded with wireless radiation of some sort but I've always thought that it's the close proximity to a radiation transmitter (ie your phone) where the real risk lies rather than being in the vicinity of a cell tower signal. Therefore, Bluetooth+ would go someway to reduce radiation exposure for occupants of the car as it takes the signal out of the car(?). I have no technical knowledge to back any of this up of course but it sounds common sense to me.
  15. I'd like to think it does a great job of getting a lot of the radiation from the phone out of the car to protect the occupants (read young children).
  16. Hi chaps, With my little girl reaching almost 1 year old, it was time to upgrade to a new larger rear facing car seat as she's grown out of the new born one. We purchased the BeSafe iZi Kid i-Size primarily because its one of the rear facing child seat that complies with the new EU regulations that came into effect last year. It also happens to match the VRS interior too. Anyway, this child seat has a front brace that presumably increases the stability of the chair. Whilst I obviously don't want to compromise on the safely of my daughter, I don't want the back seat deformed. I'm a little concerned on how the car's rear seat will cope with something pushed firmly against it for 3+ years.....particularly as I plan to keep my VRS long term. Any thoughts or worrying about nothing?
  17. I've found the paintwork on my VRS scratches, scuffs and chips very easily. Shame.
  18. Great choice. Always nice to see another all-black owner.
  19. Read receipts aren't worth TCP/IP packet they sit on. It's a client side technology that can easily be disabled or overridden by the user so it's no guarantee that the message has been read or not.
  20. Am I being a bit dim? How is waiting longer for a new car to be built improving the residuals when it comes to selling it 18-24 months later?
  21. It does work with a Mac - you just have to do this first.
  22. As I side note, I notice the OEM is Alpine. Interesting.
  23. I ended up reporting this to Thule and they have confirmed this isn't normal (no sheet). They've been pretty good so far and have offered to pay for a re-spray of the car's roof rails. Its been escalated to their technical department as this (they claim) is the first time anyone has every reported damage like this using the Wingbar Edge product line.......they admit its also the first time anyone with an Oct3 has raised an issue with them too. Awaiting to hear back whether they consider the Wingbar Edge a compatible product with the Octy3 VRS with Black Pack. In the meantime I need to use these bars for my roof box for our family holiday. Taking advice from a few here, I'm going to clean and cover the roof rails with the 3M paint protection strips and then wrap some draw liner super friction foam to add protection. Hope it protects the rails.
