  1. Hello Plymouth Red I guess the other 2 posters have more or less answered your question. My thoughts on why I think the Kenwood unit is a "vast improvement": 1. Included Garmin Sat Nav (which is excellent by the way) 2. Included direct Ipod connection (with optional lead) - this was one of the main reasons I bought the Kenwood. I have a 160Gig Ipod Classic in the glove compartment permanently connected - the Ipod can be effectively controlled via the Kenwood - either from the head unit itself or via steering wheel controls (on the Yeti) 3. Included Bluetooth telephone control - this works well. I don't know if the Bolero has this facility - if it has it wasn't fitted out in my Yeti. 4. The sound of the Kenwood is superior to the Bolero - even before I had replaced the standard Yeti speakers I noticed this as soon as I turned the Kenwood on. 5.The Kenwood includes a DAB tuner (with 15 presets) - the Bolero doesn't have DAB (at least mine didn't) 6. Asthetics - whilst the Bolero looks quite decent, IMHO the Kenwood looks better it - fits perfectly it doesn't stand out and looks fully integrated The only thing which I think is missing from the Kenwood is the ability to stream music - but then again the Bolero doesn't have this either. Hope this helps Christopher
  2. Just an update on my experience since fitting the "Ebay" LED DRL's. As previously posted the bulb out warning light and a "one off" Maxidot message do come on without fail. I decided the warning light was something I could live with pending Super Skoda bringing out their harness and bulbs - however a further problem has now become apparent which has led me to turn off the DRL's altogether pending their replacement. I had fitted a Kenwood DNX 521DAB head unit - recently I have had an intermittent problem with the DAB radio tuner which has been losing signal and also to a lesser extent with the FM tuner on which the reception has been poor. I had just upgraded the firmware on the unit so thought this was the problem - I even tried to revert to the previous firmware but this was not possible. Subsequently I realised that the head unit performed impeccably when the engine was turned off and then also established it was fine when the car was used in darkness - ie. with the lights turned on. I then realised that the LED DRL's were the cause of the problem - when these were disabled in the MFD or when the main lights were on (which means the DRL's are off) the radio reception was normal - when I turned the DRL's back on the problem reoccurred! It was quite a relief to find the cause of the problem. I don't know whey this is occurring - presumably the electronic booster aerials to both he FM tuner and DAB receiver were having interference, caused by the CANBUS fault. I can only guess the electrics must be very sensitive on this system. Just something to be aware of should anyone else be contemplating buying the "error free" LED's from the previously mentioned Ebay site. Christopher
  3. Hello Tom I paid £668 (auction format) inc P&P Regards Christopher
  4. The link is as per Macdemon's post - http://www.superskod...ight-bulbs-KI-R - these bulbs are actually what we would call "sidelight" bulbs (SS call then "position" bulbs) and are definitely not headlight bulbs !
  5. Macdemon - I fitted a set of these "sidelight" bulbs recently. The LED's are good, they do not produce a Canbus error and are relatively easy to fit (at least compared to the DRL's ) Cheers Christopher
  6. Hi Not technically difficult - just a case of releasing the existing bulb from the holder (by squeezing the holder at the bottom) and slotting in the new bulb. The difficulty is releasing and refixing the bulb holder into the headlight unit. There is very limited space down there and its very hard to get any leverage to turn the bulb holder. If anything releasing the bulb holder is slightly easier than refixing it but there's just no room to grip and turn it. I suppose if you have small size hands this would help ! There is a thread somewhere on the forum which suggests a different method - I think it involves fixing the bulb into the headlight unit without the holder being attached, using a 19mm socket / short extension and then lastly fitting the holder to the back of the bulb. I might try this method next time if I attempt a refit. Regards Christopher
  7. I might just give your suggestion a try - I confirm I did put the 1st bulb in and then turn on the ignition to make sure it was working / admire my handywork before I fitted the 2nd one. I don't suppose the year of make could make any difference eg. later (or earlier) cars having a more sensitive Canbus set up ? Out of interest what year is your Yeti Styler 67 ? Regards Christopher
  8. Hello Again Just an update - received the "error free" DRL bulbs from the Ebay seller - a right pain to fit but did it eventually albeit with scraped knuckles. The bulbs are nice and bright and initially appeared to work without throwing up an error message. However after less then 10 mins of driving my 2012 Yeti the dreaded "bulb out" sign and maxi dot error message came up. The same sequence happens each time I drive the car so I suppose for journeys of less than a mile they are ideal! The maxi dot message displays once and then disappears leaving a small yellow warning light within the main instrument panel - this is not too obtrusive and I think I will live with it until Super Skoda start selling their version which I am sure will work as advertised. Cheers Christopher
  9. Hi Guys I've decided to give them a try - fed of waiting for Super Skoda to produce their "magic" resisting harness. If the canbus error does come up I reckon I will probably still be able to use the bulbs with the harness once it appears, although I suspect the cost from SS may be high. Cheers Christopher
  10. Thanks for the helpful replies. Just one further point - after disconnecting and connecting the battery am I likely to experience any "error / display / VCD " problems. On reading various threads I see that error messages do come up but understand these disappear once the car is driven. Anything worse than that ? Thanks again Christopher
  11. Hello Guys I have recently replaced the Bolero in my Yeti with a Kenwood DNX521DAB - vast improvement although I have also replaced the standard fit speakers. I bought the Kenwood off a well known auction site - although it works fine it comes up with a "VW" start up screen. All part of the family I suppose, but I would prefer an official Skoda splash screen. Does anyone know where to source the Skoda splash in the correct format and also how to change it on the Kenwood unit. I did manage to find a site with the Skoda logos but they were in an ISO format and I couldn't get them to open. I emailed Kenwood re the procedure but they didn't bother to reply. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Christopher
  12. Hi Guys I wondered if anyone can assist. I am intending to install a compact active sub woofer under the passenger seat to complement my newly fitted head unit and door speakers. The sub needs a direct fused connection off the battery but I can't find anywhere to feed the lead through the bulkhead from the engine compartment. On past cars I've usually found the odd grommet but my Yeti seems to be hermetically sealed ! Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't really want to end up routing the wire under the wing and through the door seal - nuclear option !. Cheers Christopher

    LED DRL's

Hi Again Ah - the secret of getting them to reply is to post in Czech ! My initial email in English didn't receive any response - with the help of an on line translator I then sent a reminder in Czech - Bingo ! - an almost instant reply. I'll remind them again in about 4 weeks and post when there are developments. Cheers Chris

    LED DRL's

Hi All The standard DRL's are pretty pathetic and really need replacing with some juicy LED's ! I've followed the various threads on the topic and done a lot of research on the internet from which it seems that to fit LED bulbs in place of the standard ones we are still left with the Canbus warning problem. To overcome this requires splicing into the wiring to fit resistors - something which I am reluctant to do. There may however be a solution on the horizon - I have been exchanging emails with Super Skoda on the subject and include below a copy of their latest response. Hello, power consuption of the LEDs is not so high to avoid the error code on the display. Since this month we are developing new solution (the middle piece between bulb and car harness plug inside the headlight). Due to we are making also new rubber cap with holes for the wires, the development is planed to be finished before christmas this year. We have tested the hand-made prototype and it finally works........ The product will be also promoted on our site with reviews of different P13W bulbs from various producers (ebay, alibaba etc etc.), so customer will see, that only our bulbs are suitable for European yeti headlights (the bulb really "click-in" inside the car headlight harness plug. Which is impossible with these chinese bulbs (they are originally copied from different version of P13W - US version for Camaros etc.). So, mr. Chris, you can look forward on another precise product from our company. If you want to make review with photo-shooting install guide, we can offer you full kit incl. bulbs for free.... superskoda.com team I will follow this up and keep everyone posted Cheers Chris
  15. Hi Rich I'm wanting to upgrade my speakers and from what you say the Pioneer TSA172CI's seem just the job. I was considering a pair of Alpine components but from a previous poster this would apparently have meant mounting on MDF to overcome the increased depth of the Alpines. It would appear the Pioneers are shallower as I take it from what you say they go straight in without any spacers which seems pretty straight forward. What about the connectors - will I need converters or do they fit the terminals on the Pioneers? How did you manage with the tweeters - a previous poster suggested these are more or less impossible to replace using the existing grill. Did you have to cut a new hole in the door card and leave the original tweeter in situ? Also how did you terminate the tweeters ? I also want to replace the rear door speakers - my Yeti has the standard 8 speaker set up - are the rear ones in this set up 13cm or same as the front ? Its a long time since I did any car door speaker fitting (usually end up busting the clips on the card) Any help would be appreciated !! Chris
