  1. Thanks for the replies guys. The garage is an independent that I've been using for the past 20+ years, so I know the owner well. He's basically said that it's not sensible cost wise to fit a brand new unit and has suggested that the cheapest option would be for me to track down a second hand unit that they will fit (he has also mentioned that he uses a gearbox / diff specialist that maybe able to refurb, but would need to open it up first to see the damage) @J.R.I've been trying to find out what the suffix numbers mean, but have drawn a blank - if you could give some pointers as to where to look that would be appreciated. As you say, I'm sure that Skoda (& Audi & VW) would want to use the same part as much as possible. Will have another chat to the garage tomorrow (see if he can get me the part number of the unit on the vehicle and if he could explain what the suffixes mean). Cheers Geoff
  2. Hi, thanks for the replies (only just had the chance to catch up...) Re having it reconditioned - it had been whining for about a year before failing - and it when it did fail it was with a terrible grinding noise and it felt like it was seizing up when taking it off the trailer at the garage - so doubt that there's much left to recondition (but thanks for the tip). @J.R.how sure are you that the diffs have the same ratio and that it's the Haldex that makes the difference to the part No. (i.e. with a different suffix)? The Yeti is currently with a German car specialist (BMW, Merc, VW & Audi - so also Skoda) and they have told me it needs a diff from the same spec vehicle and that one from a DSG model wouldn't fit - happy to go back and discuss the option of them swapping the haldex from our car to a diff from a DSG yeti if that is a possibility. @Crasherif you could let me know what other VAG models had the same diff - or if @J.R.is correct with respect to the part No. / Haldex, that would really be appreciated. Thanks all - will keep you all updated. P.S. in my earlier mail I stated that I had "only seen second hand 010E & 010G " - what I meant to type was "010E & 010B" - have yet to find a 010G diff anywhere (though I do have a couple of quotes for second hand diffs (not confirmed if part No. 010G) from www.partsgateway.co.uk for over £1K !!) Cheers Geoff
  3. thanks for that - looks like I need to keep on looking, so far have only seen second hand 010E & 010G for sale. Cheers Geoff
  4. Cheers Toot - definitely the rear diff I'm afraid. There's a few on ebay - but some of the listings / part numbers seem a bit confusing, so not sure what part number I need. Car is at the garage - so may have to get on to them to have a look for me . Any help gratefully received @J.R.if you are abld to assist. Cheers Geoff
  5. Hi All, Rear diff has just failed on our Yeti (it had been making a noise for quite some time, so not unexpected). I'm trying to find a second hand replacement, but not sure how 'universal' the rear diff is... Yeti is a 2013/13, 6 speed manual, 2.0 TDI CR(170bhp) Does anyone know if I need a diff off of the exact same model or is the diff on a DSG version or one of the other 2.0 TDI variants the same? Cheers Geoff
  6. I've used MTEC for discs and pads on the Yeti (and on the Jag XF) without any problems - would highly recommend
  7. and just as I hit 'submit Reply' I notice the 'Notify me of replies' toggle (which I've now turned on)
  8. apologies mitolab only just seen the above, so this is probably too late (I don't look on the forum on a regular basis and thought I'd have got a mail if a thread I'd replied to had new content - like other forums do). Just checked my mails - didn't sign up to the MTEC website and it looks like I ordered over the phone, but there was some confusion over the rear disk size as at the time of my order they didn't show 272mm as an option (probably why I ordered over the phone). Yeti is the 170bhp model on a 13 plate This is what I asked for via email and then followed up with a call to place the order. Total cost was £193 with delivery and the silver coating, Front brake discs (MTEC1353) - grooved only Front brake pads Mintex (MDB2604) Rear brake discs 272mm diameter - grooved only Corresponding Mintex pads. Hope that helps.
  9. Can't recall what I paid, but I couldn't find any else that came anywhere near even with shipping. I also added the coating to them. Still there 1 year on, though starting to rust a bit, but better than if not added - specially the rear discs which seemed to rust rather quickly even from new.
  10. Must admit, that having not used MTEC before I went with Mintex pads. However, my brother-in-law (who also happens to have a 3.0 XF S) bought a set of grooved and dimpled for his car (independently) and he went with the MTEC pads - and he's more than happy with the performance. Next time I'll be going all MTEC.
  11. I bought a set of grooved discs and pads from MTEC last summer for our 170 Yeti -> https://www.mtecbrakes.com/ Can't fault them - you can get some noise when breaking heavily from speed (but I kinda like that!). In fact I was that pleased, I bought a set of grooved and dimpled for my Jag (3.0 XF S) Cheers Geoff
  12. We bought these for our yeti http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251341186455?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Genuine skoda parts and worked out a bit cheaper than anywhere else. Note: the boot mat is designed for a yeti without a spare wheel (i.e. a lower boot floor). It still fits with a raised floor, but it not as snug a fit. (Note to self - really must fit those mud flaps!)
  13. True - when looking for our S/H Yeti any that didn't have a spare wheel where right at the bottom of our list and we would have been happy to buy one with a spare that cost a bit more than a similar spec without. As it turned out, we were fortunate enough to get a pre registered Yeti that had the spare wheel option (which was a nice since it wasn't advertised as having one and even the dealer was surprised when we lifted up the floor in the boot to reveal the spare!)

    Yeti towbars

Hi dcl5ad, Sorry to hear about your towbar debacle, but can I ask where you had the the tow bar fitted and who actually did the fitting ? Since I'm looking to have a towbar fitted and you're not a million miles from me I would hate to end up using the same 'monkey'!. Thanks Geoff
