  1. I've kept the one with 611,000 miles and its being used as a spares car for bits of trim, lights, wheels etc, which we sometimes need. The other two were sold to some Czech guys who take them back to the Czech Republic and strip them for parts etc etc.
  2. So was it poor quality of the replacement valves that caused the failure..is that what the garage suspect?
  3. I'm having my clutch done next week....its a 2005 2.0 TDi and the clutch I've been told that goes with my car is a Sachs....I've decided to replace the dual mass flywheel as well, even though there's no judder, as I can't stand the thought of going to all the trouble of having the clutch done, only to find 6 months later that the DMF is starting to go.
  4. I would also 2nd the thoughts on the variable vanes being jammed....although on my 1.9, some years back, the EML light came on as soon as I hit 3000rpm
  5. I personally wouldn't worry about it....some turbo's whistle more than others. 2.0TDi Turbo's always seem to have an element of whistle, whereas I don't really here it that much on 1.9's Is your's a 1.8Turbo petrol?...if so, again some whistle some don't
  6. As you have already stated, switching to the shorter service intervals and using the correct oil is the best thing you can do for that car, at that age and mileage. Has it had a cam belt change yet?
  7. Trying to rock a diesel in gear is going to be hard work.....could it just be that an Intercooler pipe has just blown off? The other thing I have had happen on a Touran is the alternator nose pulley seized solid whilst driving along and locked the engine solid and caused it to stall. AA Man thought the engine had seized but unbelieveably was just that nose pulley, once my local Indi took a look at it.
  8. Yes an ex-taxi....engine is a 1.9. Was very well looked after....has had 10 cam belt changes. We've also had other Octavia 2's with high mileage....one with 495,000 and the other with 375,000....both drove perfectly and were 1.9's
  9. Pah....80,000 miles. We've got a 2005 Octavia that came in as a PX last year with a mere 615,000 miles. Still on the original engine and gearbox and still drives remarkably well.
  10. I had a solid flywheel conversion done and regretted it....pull away in first gear had noticeable vibration. Wish I had never bothered and had stuck with a DMF
  11. I suspect that this question may have been asked before as I've seen other questions being asked on other forums, but I never seem to be able to get the full answer. I have a 54 reg Octavia II with the 140bhp 2.0TDi engine. Great car and has given me sterling service, however, the one thing that seems to be getting worse is the idle during the warm up period. I know that these 2.0 TDi's have a lumpy idle at the best of times, but mine is getting quite bad during the warm up period, ie the injectors sound like they are missing a beat. There are no misfires so to speak of, just a very erratic idle. As soon as the engine is up to temperature its as good as gold. At no other point through the rev range are there any flat spots or drop in performance, either when the engine is cold or hot. Both performance and economy remain excellent. So far I have had the coolant temp sensor replaced (with a genuine sensor, not pattern) as that had thrown up a code, but that has made no difference at all. Any thoughts on what's causing this....anybody had the same problem
  12. Hi I have a 140bhp 2005 2.0TDi which at idle is starting to puff a small amount of blue smoke as I pull away. At all other times it does not smoke, ie only at idle. Coming on and off the power at speed there is no smoke and none under heavy acceleration. Performance is strong and idle is rock steady. Any thoughts....
