  1. Not too sure yet the engine in mine is standard so has the original Bosch mono-motronic SPI unit where as the Estelle engine has a Weber 40 DCOE carburettor on it but I've always wanted to go either twin 45's or bike carbs...
  2. Cheers dude, will see if anyone else can shed some light :P
  3. Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I was unsure whether to put it in the RWD Skoda section or the Favorit section and vice-versa... Question is this: I've heard of Estelle's that are running Favorit engines but never heard of a Favorit running the Estelle engine...Now I'm assuming that the Favorit engine must be fairly similar to the Estelle lump as so many have done it. So does the Estelle lump fit in the bay of a Fav and is it a straight swap or is there modifications needed? Only asking because I have the chance of an Estelle high compression engine with Group A cam ready to slot in a car, now I want a bit more performance but have been quoted nearly £300 to have my cylinder head done this engine is ready to go straight in...Is it a simple thing to do?
  4. CHEAP??? Seriously I have a fantastic Hilka socket set that I have had for 8 years, it's still shiny though it's been abused...It came with a lifetime warranty on it so if anything breaks I take it back to Screwfix and it's replaced there and then no questions asked I paid £49 brand new. The equivalent Halfords socket set comes with a few less bits and is twice as much! If you think Halfrauds tools are cheap you must be rolling in it! A mate of mine once went to Halfrauds to buy some bulbs and paid £50 for their advanced bulbs the ultimate ones or whatever they are, either way they come as a single bulb and are £25 each...I'd been out a couple of weeks previously and bought a pair of Osram NightBreaker +110% bulbs, £30 for the pair. He was talking about how good his bulbs were and got into my car that night as he wanted a lift the first thing he said - "Your bulbs are better than mine, how much were they?"...When I told him he nearly **** himself.
  5. Bit of both but either way I know what one of them wants in her stocking for christmas
  6. Not classy, but heck I'm not gunna pass up an opportunity to spend the night between 2 lovelies
  7. Even better deals on oil if you've got a trade card! Thing I find handy about them is to get a trade card all you have to do is provide proof that you do something with cars, in my case I went to college studying mechanics when I was younger...Talking of which we had a female in the class too, I did a whole lot of studying when I was working with her, seeing her bent over under the bonnet of that 2.9 V6 Granada...Anyway back on topic, they accepted my qualifications as proof of being a "Mechanic" and got me a trade card, get a pretty decent deal too!
  8. Suppose it's their idea of a work safe "Money shot"!!!
  9. I have visions of a perverted old man sat there with his camera watching females get into their cars and try to start them only to find he's removed a HT lead from the coil...WEIRD. Talking of weird old men, I was in Skegness a few weeks back with 2 rather fetching female friends on a night out, the next day we decided to go into town to get something to eat and as we were walking down the street there was an old man following us taking pictures of the 2 ladies...I was rather annoyed at this and was ready to give him a piece of my mind to which one of the girls said "Don't bother, I know how to get him to f**k off!" both females pulled their jeans down revealing their bums...Said male turned bright red and walked the other way!
  10. Don't let RainbowFire hear you say that, he'll have you lynched before you know it not to mention bring your entire driving history question and then deem you a speed freak without actually knowing you! Good luck though dude if you weren't too far over or within 3 years of completion of a speed awareness course they might send you on one so you keep your license nice and shiny!
  11. Seems I can't post in that thread anymore so I'll post it here for you. "Seems that, despite your claims of "police-level" training, you have a problem with speed and speeding, now complete with an official endorsement to show for it." Okay I'll clarify this one more time for the ones that either have their head that far up their arses that they can smell what they had for last week's tea or are just too ignorant to read or take anything in. I have had my driver's license for nearly 6 years now (if you want to be pedantic it's actually 5 years 9 months, 3 weeks and 1 day) in that time I haven't once been pulled over for speeding, I haven't been told about my speed, I have never been asked to go on a driver's awareness course and more to the point NO POINTS ON MY LICENSE. So with my lack of points on my license please do tell me, if I have a problem with speed and speeding when I was 5mph over the speed limit ONCE if you'd like to explain to me where my other points are to prove I have a problem with speeding please do tell me because I am positively bewildered by this miraculous turn of events! Here's me thinking that for the last 5 years I'd been usually a couple of mph under the limit seems all this time I've had a hidden smartbox that records my speeds given a precise time and where it was that I was doing 62mph in a 60 zone. Again: If you have nothing to say or nothing constructive, you just fancy having a pop at me etc...**** off. I know a vicar that's got more points on his license than me FFS!
  12. My car is not a ****ter, it's done 52,000 miles from new (with documentation) has been maintained all its life at proper intervals and has always been repaired with brand new genuine parts (as the receipts in my service pack will prove) The speedo cable failed due to it being a fragile component because of age and the temperatures under a bonnet and eventually failed because of a ham-fisted mechanic not disconnecting it properly at the gearbox when it came out.
  13. Another...Please if you have nothing useful to say - Jog on. My driving is not under questioning I know how to drive and know how to get myself out of a situation what was the question was my speed. This matter should be resolved but yet again another one picking fault and I'm getting tired of it if you haven't got anything useful to say please do just go and find someone else to annoy or better still go and play in the road.
  14. They are indeed...Admitted i did find a bolt that had worked itself loose on the passenger seat which I have replaced, there's also no rot in the areas prescribed in the MOT and all seatbelt mountings are present, secure & correct
  15. Thankyou! At least someone has an ounce of understanding! Bright purple! Actually no it's a SilverLine...So silver.
  16. Think some people don't like the fact it's not a newer Skoda hence flaming me. I admit I was a **** by trying to guesstimate my speed but it was a must that I drove the car in that state, I've never been in trouble with the law and have never had a speeding ticket so some of their arguments are more of an insult than anything worthwhile! End of the day I've admitted my mistakes that should be the end of it but no some people like to continually pick fault!
  17. If you care to read the full post you will find that the cable was replaced a couple of days after the camera flashed me, albeit a slight bodge but it has been checked with a sat nav in the car and my speedo is correct and does actually work. So for future reference: My car has a working speedo, all 4 tyres have at least 5mm of tread on them, my brakes work both in emergency stop situation and normal braking, my steering works fine, my horn works, my headlights, tail lights, indicators and every other lights work, I have no warning lights on the dashboard that are illuminated, I have a spare tyre with 7mm of tread on it that is correctly inflated and has no cracks in it, I also have good brake lines, my petrol tank and cap is secure, my exhaust is in perfect condition, my shock absorbers are all functioning as they should and I have no broken springs, I also have a valid MOT until August 13th 2014. Now...Does anybody else want to pick fault with my car?
  18. Okay I don't know if it's the same training in your part of the world but I do know that when I was taught the course it was taught to me by a police driving instructor and I was told by him that the training given would be the same as that taught to a police response driver and the same certification. Exactly that, this is whom I am employed by/volunteer with to carry out said duties. I don't take it as that the majority of responses have been quite helpful, but I feel that Zoidberg did treat it as just that, "Flame Muttley day" with him picking fault with my driving which he did so by first picking fault with my speedo, then my defective vehicle, then the fact that I have been stopped by the police and so on and so forth. The fact of the matter is YES, I realise I'm in the wrong by doing 35mph in a 30mph zone due to defective speedo cable, YES I chose to drive a defective vehicle to get to work because they were understaffed and needed an extra driver. I admit I've made mistakes, as we all do. From day one we are taught and sometimes in the most brutal of ways that driving is probably the hardest lesson to learn and we learn every day...A friend for that matter, had been driving for years and years, was qualified to every known certification you could get with driving. He was still seriously injured in a crash and was paralysed from the waist down...We never fully learn, there is always improvements to be made etc. So if you're still reading this Zoidberg FYI: I was wrong to drive the car in that state, I admit I was over the speed limit, I have had my license 5 years without any previous hint of a speeding ticket, yes I'm certified to a higher standard than most drivers but it doesn't rule me out from the fact that I have actually made a mistake which we all do. If you still wish to give me a lecture then from this point I shall treat it as nothing more than an opportunity to insult me.
  19. Exactly my point, I made a mistake I admitted it, that's it over and done with in my eyes but Zoidberg clearly has a Napoleon complex. I was 5mph over I was hardly doing 77mph in a 30mph zone. And I didn't slide off the road, I encountered understeer if it was a younger driver with less experience then yes there's the possibility that they would have slid off the road, not me.
  20. Cheers mate, at least someone doesn't seem to be taking potshots at me!
  21. I didn't ask for my driving standards to be examined or to be told I'm a hooligan etc, the fact of the matter is I was slightly over the speed limit, pretty sure I'm not the only one that's done it. The fact of the matter remains that all of you seem to think that because I asked for some advice that it somehow gives you Carte Blanché to put my driving in question, I have faith in my driving, my colleagues do and everyone else that has been in any of my cars knows that I can handle a car safely and responsibly.
  22. I am the current holder of the IHCD D1 & D2 Edexcel BTEC Level 3 in ambulance emergency driving. The ROSPA course I went on before that was taught to me to police response standard by an ex-police officer...Question me all you like.
  23. ROSPA Accredited, also have a BTEC. The reason I was driving a vehicle with a defective vehicle was because it's my only form of transport and I couldn't get the part, where needs must and all that. As for massive understeer it's on a 60mph road, and is a sweeping bend and it was in the wet...If you'd like to drive said 20-year old vehicle around the same bend, I'll happily pass you my keys and see if you can do any better.
  24. You seem to think I'm a hooligan clearly without reading the reasons behind the stops Number 1: Was stopped because I had my front fogs on I thought I'd hit my de-mister button...Reason accepted, told off as appropriate stop was valid. Number 2: Was a routine check as I was driving down the road that runs around the local RAF base at 3am as I was returning from work. Things have happened in the last few years where terrorists generally like to blow **** up, it's a completely valid reason to stop a car. There is also another occasion in which I was stopped because as I went around a corner I encountered massive understeer, old bill pulled me over and asked me what happened told them they breathalised me just to make sure, yet again another perfectly valid reason. I drive for a living I do know how to drive, I don't drive like a **** as you may think I do I am actually trained to the same level as a police officer.
  25. Just found out from the Wrong...Just spoke to the Central Ticket Office and they've told me it was 35 I was doing and that does put me in the legal parameters to be offered a place on a driver improvement program to keep points off my license. Breathing a *TINY* sigh of relief!
