  1. Just tried Preston but no answer. Will try again and then try tomorrow (Monday). Thanks for the advice.
  2. No, but i'm popping down to Marlborough shortly. To be honest i'm not holding out much hope. The salesman said there's not much money in the Citigo for the dealer and i'd be looking at February delivery. I came off the phone with the impression that the dealerships aren't keen on selling the Citigo.
  3. Hi all, i'm West of London so those dealerships are a long way away from me. I'll give them a call tomorrow anyway to see what they can do.
  4. New shape 2008 Citroen C5 2.2HDi Exclusive - so top of the range but a very high miler. WeBuyAnyCar said £2.2K. I haven't completely given up yet, so I might try a different dealer. What's annoying is that I paid for two different valuations and the dealer was so far below them.
  5. Firstly, a big thanks to everyone for all the help over the last few days. Sadly, there was no deal to be had at my local Skoda dealer on a Citigo today. I was offered £1K on my part-exchange car - a car that I bought for £4K earlier this year and then spent nearly £4.5K on repairs/replacements (e.g. new clutch, flywheel, discs, brakes pads, service, aircon regas, wheel alignment, new tyres, etc). My current car has a full main dealer service history too. I had paid for two valuations for my current car online (Glass's and Parkers). Both valued my current car at around £3.5K for part-exchange. The dealer said the most I could get was £1K. I really couldn't take a hit of over £8K as a loss on my current car. I fully understand that a car is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. There was also no money off on the Citigo Elegance with many options. Not a penny. So, I had to walk away and will run my current car into the ground whilst saving up and will try again in a years time with hard cash to bargain with.
  6. Interesting thread. Most new cars i've had suggest using all the gears as much as possible and just don't rev the engine too high when cold. I'd imagine all dealer demonstrators are just driven 'normally' - i.e. 30mph in top gear with customers and 90moh at max revs when a salesman borrows one for the weekend! As others have said, just a bit of mechanical sympathy sympathy is required for most cars during the running-in period.
  7. How does a deal involving a part-exchange and a factory order usually work. With factory-build Citigo lead times in the Porsche territory of several months, what happens if you order a factory-build but have a part-exchange car to put down as your deposit? With lead times of nearly 4 months, does the dealer take your current car away when you place the order?
  8. Thanks for that advice. Yes, it's really only the cost-to-change that matters to me. It doesn't matter how they manipulate the purchase price and the trade-in price: the final balance is all that matters!
  9. So it looks like taking out the extended warranty at time of purchase could be a good thing to do. Also, if some dealers are not offering breakdown cover with the extended warranty then could it be that they are offering a non-Skoda warranty for years 4 and 5, on which they get a kick-back from the warranty provider? I've almost been caught out by this sort of thing from a dealership for another marque.
  10. Honestly guys, a heartfelt thanks for the advice you have offered, all within my first day of forum membership too. I didn't expect people to be so helpful based on my experiences on other motoring and car forums! Yet another reason to buy a Skoda. It's approaching the end of the month so I hope that puts me in a strong bargaining position. My worry is that i'll be knocked down on my trade-in car. Has anyone done a part-exchange? If so, were you relatively happy with the trade-in value you got? I've got an appointment after the Skoda dealer with a Toyota dealership to look at a Toyota Aygo if a good Skoda Citigo deal can't be had. If all goes well then i'll just do the Citigo deal and cancel the Toyota appointment.
  11. Average fuel consumption is usually a rolling figure over, say, the last 20 miles. As others have stated, the only definitive test is the number of miles from a brimmed tank to empty.
  12. How good is the PID for navigation? Also, is it user-updateable for maps? I currently use my Samsung (Android-based) phone for navigation in my current car and that works very well.
  13. I like the white to be honest. Nice and simple. I'm not sure about the ivory interior. I had a similar interior in another car years ago and the dye from my clothes transferred onto it within a month! If it's dye-resistant then it'd be more appealing. Black absorbs a lot of heat in the Summer but doesn't look dirty too quickly. Does anyone have the ivory interior? If so, any comments would be appreciated. I'll take a look at Carfile and Drive the Deal.
  14. The £10,700 actually included Sunset Glass when I checked the spec in the Configurator. So I added the temp space saver wheel for £50 and the spec becomes: Citigo Elegance 5-door with: 1. Package CONVENIENCE 2. Package ENTERTAINMENT 3. Variable cargo area concept (I think that's the false floor boot) 4. Temporary space saver spare wheel TOTAL: £10,750
  15. I've made some notes to try and summarise the configuration: Citigo Elegance 5-door with: 1. Package CONVENIENCE 2. Package ENTERTAINMENT 3. Variable cargo area concept (I think that's the false floor boot) That adds up to £10,700 on the Skoda Configurator. What about Sunset glass - is that standard on Elegance?
