  1. Update... that was the correct part number. Had to remove bumper to fit the new cylinder but all sorted now ....and MOT passed on retest.
  2. I'm using about 9000km/l in my 61 reg 1.8tsi L@K. OK it uses a bit but nothing out of the ordinary really considering I have a catch can fitted as well.
  3. My car just failed its MOT for leaky headlight washers.... Because the MOT is done indoors, the auto lights were selected and thus switched the lights on. When they tried the windscreen washers (which worked).. the headlamp washer motor activated, but all it did was dump washer fluid over the wheel/ floor. Thus MOT failed... retest when fixed.... guy said the pipe had probably come off. I got home and pulled out the fog light to see the offending area, and found the jet cylinder behind the bumper was smashed at the rear with the pipe connector part hanging loose. Someone has obviously reversed into my front bumper at sometime and pushed the headlight washer area in enough to break it 😞 although there is no clear evidence of a bump. Trying to source the jet cylinder... think it is this here ( for a driver side of a 2011 octy) ...pain in the butt 😞
  4. Since I had a MK 1 Octy I've had a Fabia a Seat Leon and a KIa Sportage previous to this FL Mk 2 Octy and generally change cars every 2 years. Well its 3 1/2 years since I acquired this 1.8 TSI L&K and though its nearly 9 years old, I'm still loath to think about changing it. Its mapped and had the precat deleted, and it is a classic sleeper car which has embarrassed many other supposedly potent charges. OK I was lucky to get a 6 year old car with less than 3 year old engine(previous owner had engine cam chain fail.). I have had one fault with it, The cable to the airbag sensor in the door bellows which I repaired myself. I paid £3k for it + a Fabia trade in. (6K price). What a bargain, the paintwork is still blemish free and the leather seats as sumptuous as new. It still handles well and is a pleasure to drive... MK2 octy... great car.... money in the bank
  5. I have repaired my faulty door airbag cable and need to reset the Airbag warning light. Pretty please. :)
  6. That's the same one as I fitted to my 1.8 tsi. Seems to be doing a good job so far, along with regular oil changes.
  7. I have a catch can fitted. The amount of gunge it collects is amazing. I am much happier having it trapped rather than recirculating this mess around the engine. Mine is similar to this one. https://fr-rtuning-shop.co.uk/forge-oil-catch-tank-kit-vw-audi-seat-skoda-2-0-tfsi-petrol.html?display_tax_prices=0 or rather this one... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/universal-Oil-Catch-Can-Kit-Oil-catch-tank-kits-For-VAG-2-0TFSI-Engines-fuel-tank/32755502566.html
  8. Heres one I bought recently. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GEAR-KNOB-CAP-REPLACEMENT-DECAL-TRIM-BADGE-SKODA-OCTAVIA-MK2-II-2-1Z0798001-NEW/251410201252?hash=item3a89373aa4:g:5hsAAOSw6lRagaOz&frcectupt=true
  9. I have exactly the same model apart from mine is metallic arctic green. I owned mine for nearly 3 years now and am loathe to think about changing it. Once the tensioner is sorted and change oil every 6 K with 502 spec, it just keeps going and purring. The 1.8 tsi is a fantastic engine and the L&K spec is great, and makes me smile every time I drive it.
  10. A leaky/split rear wash pipe or connector for the rear wipers can cause fluid in the tyre well. Just saying this as I have just had the very same problem.
  11. Hi, I have a 60 reg (MY11) 1.8tsi I have owned since 2016. Prior to my ownership, it had an engine swapped out in early 2014, as the timing chain tensioner likely failed and caused a catastrophic engine failure. Now I'm assuming, and someone cam correct me if I'm wrong, the peripherals like water pump etc, would have been swapped from the old engine to the new one during the swap in 2014. If that's the case then I might need to start looking at replacing the water pump? (8 years old). Reason I'm saying this is that over the past 6 months, I've had a couple of red thermometer errors on startup, that have cleared when I have restarted. I suppose theres always the possibility it might be the temp sensor or connection as well.... Excuse me while I deliberate. Anyway, what do you the sage and wise think...
  12. Awww thats sad :( The previous owner of my car had a catastrophic failure of engine due to timing chain jumping. So I got a MY11 car with a 2014 engine in 2016 when I bought it. I do an oil/filter change every 6 months of 502/505 oil. (Best to ignore the long life 20k mile agenda rubbish) If you do that, the engine will last and last.... Edit... Oh and I fitted a catch can to keep it nice and clean as well.
  13. Superchips Bluefin. I'm sure there was some sort of offer on when I did it. Paid £330ish Basically you can not go wrong whoever you go with. Pulls like a train now at 2500 to 6000 rpm The 1.8 tsi engine is so open to mapping. And the car is such a sleeper as no one realises...
  14. Hi, I replaced springs and shocks on my 1.8Tsi but I wasn't after anything special, just wanting to get rid of the wallow factor on my 7 year old MY11 Octavia 2 without compromising the comfort too much. I also didn't want to lower the car either. I achieved my aim and was really pleased with the results. I did a like for like swap of springs, just to replace the tired springs with new OEM (Sach) ones. At the same time I swapped all 4 shocks with Bilstein B4's. (I dont think its worth just changing the shocks and keeping the old springs fitted and the B6's are just not worth it for this car.) I wasnt expecting any great improvement but got it in bucket loads. Just swapping to the B4's tightened the whole handling up, and the car was so much better at handling bumps and cornering, while still providing a comfortable ride quality. Edit, be very careful ordering shock lengths correctly... Edit Edit... best to change the mounts and bearings at same time too. heres a thread to read
  15. Generally DAB is abysmal quality compared to FM. 128kbps gives horrible reproduction and most stations are LESS than this, where as FM is at least CD quality. (Bitrates need to be 320kbps to compete in quality stakes.) DAB+ is generally better quality, but UK has few true quality DAB+ stations, and still mix DAB and DAB+ so still ends up rubbish quality. DAB was a massive step backwards in quality which is why there is still no official date to switch off FM. Keep your FM and get a DAB add on.
  16. You really need to find out if it has the tensioners sorted or you might soon be a not so proud, VRS owner. I have a 1.8tsi of the same vintage as yours and the timing chain jumped and wrecked the engine when the previous owner had it at about 35k miles. Luckily for me I got a 6 year old car with a 2 year old engine in it, but there was nothing in the service manual to say it had the engine changed. (swapped by Skoda). Question the previous owners or previous service centres if you can or try Skoda UK.
  17. It all depends on the year of your engine. If you have a late 2013 engine, then its almost safe to say you have the latest version of the tensioners fitted. If you have a 2010/2011 engine then you should get the latest tensioners fitted. Best to have the conversation with a Skoda guy that knows about these issues.
  18. Uniroyal rainsport 3. Set them to correct pressure and they last well and grip is extraordinary. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Uniroyal/Rainsport-3_2.htm https://www.camskill.co.uk/m54b0s16p111649/Uniroyal_Tyres_Car_Uniroyal_RainSport3_Uniroyal_Rain_Sport_3_-_225_45_R17_94Y_XL_FR_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_72dB You won't regret it.
  19. I'm sure that's the sound mine made when the battery was nearly dead.
  20. I've a 2010 60 reg 1.8 tsi. (L&K) If you can get one that has had the chain tensioner problem sorted, then its an absolute blinder of a motor. I bought mine 2nd hand and it had already been fitted with a new engine after a tensioner fail, so I have a late 2013 engine fitted. (had to find this info out myself as dealer/service book didn't record info but all the 2013 engine parts was dead giveaway) I've owned it for over 2 years now and have had no problems, and have no plans to change it. Just changed shocks and springs and its as tight as a drum. Its remapped, probably close to 200 horses now(the basic 160hp is generally an underestimate.), and I get 33 mpg town use, 38 mpg rural A roads, 40+ on long runs motorway. (With heavy right foot these figures diminish but not too much) One big proviso with this engine, change the oil often and regularly, and it will repay you in kind.
  21. I wired my camera to the switched feed in the rear of the courtesy light socket by the mirror (swich left on and bulb removed for that side.). It requires soldering but the big advantage is very short lead and no need to hide a long cable around the windscreen.
