  4. it gets complicated as ebay hardly exists in Spain and there are laws regarding working in the street and even though I have a private parking area in an underground garage, this also is not allowed. If I could find a rack an had somewhere to work I would attempt it myself, If I can find somewhere private to do it, but it doesn't look good. My only chance of finding a rack is if it is used across several models, then maybe find a mobile mechanic that has his own working space. Mark
  5. 2006 Skoda Fabia Mk1 1.4 16v petrol I know there are several threads about this common fault, but as I have a LHD version and based in Spain (where its almost imossible to find parts like this as cars are are not scrapped as easy as in the UK), I need to be certain. the leak is definatly comming from the drivers side steering rack area. (the driver side is LHD). But what I find unusual is the level of the leak, if I did a 180 turn there would be fluid everywhere and 2 180 turns would probably emply all the fluid. It just seems so much for the seals to fail to this level so quickly, within a week. this car is quickly becomming the worst car I have ever bought. So I am grasping at straws to another issue. Also I have seen that the rack could come from a Polo and possible an Ibiza which would improve my chances. Can anyone int me to where i can get info to see what other models is this power steering rack used on. Mark
  6. I had put the code in a previous post "i use a cheap code reader that gives the code at 16688. (p0304)" But I have also swapped them over and bought a new bosche one too. the fault stays at cylinder 4. And as I've said, does not sound like a misfire and runs ok at higher revs.
  7. Thanks for the reply Just to clarify, I get a backfire code occassionally, but it doesn't sound like a misfire, and it runs ok outside of idle. I have swapped over the coil packs (and bought a new one) and the fault code did not follow. I will look up what to do with fuel injector. Thanks Mark
  8. Had a look for it and cant find. The plastic extension that sticks out of the air filter cover, that loks like a second pipe should be atteached also does not seem as if it is hollow al the way though. I've tried blowing through it, but without any luck. Even the haynes manual suggests to remove pipes rather than a pipe for the 1.4 16v petrol engine write up.. So I dont know if am just barking up the wrong tree.

  10. Hi It only had its MOT 6 weeks ago and passed its emmission test. On saying this I haven't looked at what the levels were, just glad it passed.
  11. My Fabia is idling roughly and I know there could be a few reasons for this. The only occasional code I get (not permanent) is misfire on cylinder 4, (i have changed over and replaced coil pack) So I have read up on this through the internet and I now need to go through a check list, the first one checking for air leaks. But this has raised and issue. According to the threads I have been reading here and other forums, they normally relate to 2 air hoses to the air filter box unit. I only have one, comming from the top of the engine to the battery side of the filter box. I have checked my filter box and it does appear to be somehwere to attach a second hose, also on the battery side just above the existing hose that is there. (not on the left hand side (front view) as some configurations) But I can't see where the pipe would go, nor can I find pictures on the internet of this particlular configuration.   12. You could all be right about trying to steal the petrol and pulling the pipe, now I have been under and had a good look. I got it wrong with 2 leaks, there was only 1, After I traced the fuel pipe through the chassis, I now realise it goes no where near where I saw the second leak. the most likely cause is for what looked like a seond leak, is condensation from the air conditioning, that was on full. It could drip down the back of the engine bay and collect in the stailnless cowling around the exhaust and then leak from there. The coincodence of them happening together, made me assume they were both petrol. So with pipe pushed back and clipped on to the filter and what appears to be sealed now, I will drive on short journeys only until I have the confidence that it is fixed. Thanks all. Mark
  13. Its a petrol engine. 1.4 16v As far stealing fuel, I would have maybe gone with this, had it just been the filter connnection. But the second leak is under the cowling on the floor. There have been no previous leaks, as it has had a new fuel filter and exhaust and gone though a new MOT in recent weeks, before the long drive down to Spain so would have spotted any leaks then
  14. Hi A few weeks ago I have brought the Fabia down to Spain, which it did no problem and since done some small journeys and we have put fuel in once or twice. Today, I put 30 euros of fuel in only to find the car cutting out 1/4 mile down the road. We managed to push it into a side road, where we noticed a huge fuel leak, which then turned out to be 2 leaks. The first leak was the connection to the fuel filter, which I know was fine 4 weeks previous, as myself and a mechanic had replaced the filter and made sure the fuel line clipped over the ridge on the filter. The second leak, I cant see exactly, because of the cowling on the floor, but I am guessing it is the connection at the other and of this plastic clip on the same fuel line. It is as if when I have filled up with fuel the backpressure has been so much it has blown the pipe off at both ends and been aboe to driver /14 mile because fo the fuel in the system only. So has this happen before.to anyone else? Any idea to what has caused this? The tank was pretty empty when I put the fuel in. It is hot, but there are hundreds of MK1 Fabias driving around in thi heat. I managed to get the fuel filter pipe to clip back on and stay there with no leak which got me the 1 mile back home. But at the other end of the pipe, it is still leaking with thi ignition on. (fortunately OK when just standing). Anyone had experience off this before and can give real advice to fixing it.   16. Thanks My keys 1KO 9597519 ah 1JO 959753 ah So the second key should work, unless it has to be a 2 button one, which I not tested. I have taken the side of dashboard off to see fusebox, but no sign of control box. To get behind I would need to take away under the dash in between steering wheel and drivers door. Do I need to do this, to see the control unit, or should I see it next to fusebox? Thanks Mark

  18. I missed the FUSE 60 in a previous post. I have looked and dont have one. Its just an empty space, so not I am doubting what the MOT station said. The reason why they were sure, is that they replaced the horn to get it through its MOT. I'm now thinking that is an alarm rather than central locking. so I need to knwo where the remote central locking bx would be on the car, to check if it is central locking. Mark
  19. I have a friend who has the exact same car - except. He lives in spain and the car was bought and registered in spain So there could be differences in specification, but it is the same model and year. (if I was in spain I could have experiemented wit his key) His car has a 2 button type (non flip style) fob. The advice I am getting, even in this thread, is you need the right part number alarm fob, even with same frequency. So I was looking for literature that matched an alarm fob part number to a chassis number, or something llike that. Mark
  20. I have 2 keys that both start the engine fine, so have transponders. Just one of them has the alarm fob. This alrm fob did not come with the car, I have bought it hoping it would match. I am trying to locate the right fob part number that should match.
  21. Hi The car does have remote locking as per the garage who fixed my horn to get through its MOT. I don't want to go back there to ask where the box is to get numbers etc.
  22. The key I am using is a flip, 3 button. It did not come with the car. It is possible the correct alarm fob is the 2 button one (non flip). So This is the information I am after. I am hoping there is some literature somewhere that will tell me what part number (for the fob) is correct for my model of Fabia. 2 button flip, 2 buttoon flip non flip etc. As they work on the same frequency, Im not sure if it makes a difference anyway, unless someone tells me different.   23. Hi I bought a Fabia MK1 with a single key that did not have the alarm fob on. I then managed to buy a used flip alarm fob, a virgin transponder and get this second key cut and then programmed to the car. So I now have 2 keys to start the car. But what should be he simple part of getting the key fob to opperate the central locking I have yet to solve after trying 3 different alarm fobs. I was hoping for some advice. First where to locate the remote central locking box on the car, to identify any important serial/numbers. then I was hoping there was some literature that would match the serial number of box with the serial number of the key fob. I have read elsewhere, that even when frequencies match ie 433mhz and 434mhz, you still need the right alarm fob for the right box. I have only tried a flip key version and have yet to try a 2 button on the key version, but before I buy one I need to know these are supposed to work together. I know the process after that to get the two to commumicate with each other. Thanks Mark
