  1. Hi Dooge, they replaced it under warranty for free, after they did this the noise went away so must of fixed the issue.
  2. Its crazy, my VRS was my third Skoda and I had no qualms about getting another - but your right they really were not interested in taking mine off me. The book trade in value was exactly what Volvo gave me (which cleared the finance) but Skoda would only give £1K short of it which was an absolute non starter for me. I know of another person who was in the same boat and he moved to another manufacturer for the very same reason, perhaps they think Skoda drivers are so loyal they will stay with Skoda at any cost - which simply is not the case (I think) most people have to think first with their wallet.
  3. 😁 Yup went for the Harman Kardon sound package - the sound is amazing - its the first time I have had anything other than stock - but with the discount I got, I couldn't resist. I have to say it is in a different league in terms of comfort and refinement (from an Octavia maybe not so much from a Superb) but then again on paper at least it is a far more expensive car. Bizarrely though it was cheaper on PCP than a Superb or Kodiaq whith that and the Part Ex was the deciding factor. The boot is smaller than the Octavia - not by a massive margin so for me wasn't an issue, but I could see how that could be a deal breaker for some. I would go back to a Skoda in the future but the deal has to be right.

Yeah, I did loads of shopping around, I initially though that Skoda would offer me a really good deal, as my VRS was in perfect condition and it would go back for sale through the dealerships (I was looking for a Superb Estate or Kodiaq) but they offered me anything up to £1000 less than Volvo offered me, that with a hefty £8K discount and 2.9% apr (PCP) it really was a non brainer. Will miss the old girl, she was a great car - not convinced on the new shape Octavia, however they always look a bit different in the flesh and I am sure the VRS model is going to look sweeeet!
  5. Today I picked up my new Volvo V60 and had to say goodbye to my VRS. I have to say my three years with it have been fantastic, it hasn't missed a beat and apart from tyres its cost me a grand total of 79p on a new bulb. I desperately wanted a Skoda but the deals that I were offered were just too steep and the part ex valuations that I was offered was to be honest laughable. However if anyone manages to pick up my old VRS they will get a simply fantastic car. This group has been great, offering really invaluable advice, enjoy your cars! Finnster

Different manufacturers have different approaches to Brexit, I will be picking my new Volvo up in November (just after we supposedly leave the EU) Volvo have guaranteed my price pre Brexit as long as the order was placed before we leave. I was hoping to get a Skoda, but one of the things that put me off was that they were completely non committal on the issue, I just couldn't have the uncertainty hanging over me. I guess we will know more over the next few weeks

  8. I placed an order for a new V60 R Design Plus a couple of weeks ago, the offers were crazy (in my opinion) I got £8K off the list price plus a few extras thrown it. I compared it to the offers on a new Superb to replace my Octavia and the more expensive car (Volvo) worked out to be cheaper than the Skoda. Plus Skoda were unwilling to pay off my finance and asked me for the £500 shortfall (puzzling as the Glass's value is comparable to my outstanding finance) whereas Volvo were more than happy to do so. I guess that Skoda is getting enough orders to be picky in what deals they offer? They are both brilliant cars but for what its worth the Volvo just felt a bit more luxurious (plus it was cheaper) so for me it was an easy decision to make!
  9. 😀 It was £350 to add smartphone integration, which as you rightly said is quite mean considering the cost of the car, you can add it without having an upgraded system, but surprise surprise they dont freely advertise it (the dealer let slip that it was something I could do) I just decided that I might as well spend a bit more and get the upgraded HK system, I love my music and for every car I have ever owned I have had the stock system and there was not a huge difference in monthly payments to add it. They threw in 3 years servicing which I let them know was a deal breaker if they didn't , I have it with the Skoda and it makes life so much easier and cheaper. Its my first time in what may be considered a "premium" brand so sort of an unknown territory for me, my Skodas have been bulletproof up till now so reliability wise it will have a lot to live up to.

Thanks Scot5 Yes the comfort level is brilliant, the seats were something else, to be honest I knew the boot was smaller than the Octavia (not by a massive margin) but I probably need to ram my car full possibly once a year at most so that wasn't an issue. The real world fuel economy is better than the Skoda but not by a huge margin. I was very careful with my extras to make sure that the price fell just below the £40K mark, with discounts I got it for £7.5K less with the service plan thrown in so I was very happy with that, but to be honest the model I bought (R Design Plus) had so much kit that I didn't really need to add much - I did add the Harman Kardon sound system as I spend so long in the car I wanted to treat myself. Out of all of the cars in this sector suffer from depreciation to a certain extent Volvo does seem to be better than Audi or Mercedes. What really swung it was the quality and design of the interior, its probably a bit marmite but I loved it and felt it was a lovely place to be - I am sure that the New Octavia will be snapping on the heels of other marques when it is released but I have a feeling that may come at a price.
  11. Yup, it was PCP, same deposit, mileage etc - but the Volvo APR was 2.9 as apposed to the Skoda 5.9 and the dealer contribution from Volvo was far higher. Plus Skoda wouldn't pay off the finance on my car but Volvo will, which I couldn't understand (especially as the trade in value is the same as remaining finance)
  12. Well on Saturday I placed on order on a new Volvo V60 R Design, I was always going to get another Skoda but the deals at the moment are lousy. To put it in perspective I wanted to get a new Kodiak and it would of meant spending £80 per month more than a more expensive Volvo so unfortunately it was a bit of a no brainer. I was also keen to try and secure something before the uncertainty of Brexit. Volvo have guaranteed to keep the price post brexit (as its going to have a possibly long build time) whereas Skoda were just unwilling to commit and all I got from the salesmen was a shrug of the shoulders and a " don't know, if the price goes up we may need to pass the cost onto you but Skoda HQ have not told us anything" I have loved my time in my Skoda its been my third so far, but personally I think they need to up their game in terms of offers (perhaps the VAG group is bogging them down) but then again who know what will happen after October 31st I won't be leaving here for a while as its penned for delivery in January and then there will be a brilliant Vrs finding its way onto someones drive.
  13. When I first got my Diesel (8500 miles on the clock) I had to top up every month about 250ml, I guess the engine was bedding in? Now I am on 38K miles and it hardly uses any oil, I check it every month but have not had to top up since its last service in Feb - done about 5K miles since then. I think it takes about 1ltr from the min mark to the max mark so yours has used 1 ltr in 3.5K - if you look in the manual I think it says 1 ltr per 1000 miles is within tolerance (it doesn't make sense I know but I suppose Skoda are covering themselves) I doubt the garage you bought it from will entertain much unless you can prove a fault, but with your figures it fits within the manual (I am guessing that's what they will say) My advice is to go to a different garage and get a diagnosis, if there is a warranty on it then you can claim under that.

Keep the car and don't bother with an extended warranty, thanks for all of your advice - looks like I will be a member of the forum for a long time The cars fantastic and nothing on the market (apart from another Skoda) seems to fit the bill as much as what I already have! My only limiting factor is the PCP that ends at the start of 2021 - but hopefully the New VRs will be available for order then. Thanks again 👍

Nope not yet, guess it won't be too long before they contact me, I think if its anything like you have been quoted I will probably just risk it and save the money unless they give me a really cheap deal (which is unlikely) There is no indication that there's anything looming on the horizon with my car, even my brakes are at 15% wear after 3 years so finger crossed !

Yeah thats what I was thinking, Its funny I was looking at all the alternatives - Volvo V60 BMW 3 series etc, E Class Mercedes and with all of them I was comparing them to the VRs and it just didn't stack up, either on costs, looks, ride or equipment. The VRs has been a brilliant family car that has just got better and better and I just can't justify swapping it for the sake of it and I know if I did I would regret it (spending more money on something that I would be constantly comparing to the VR's) So I guess I am Skoda for life (as long as they don't screw up the new shape VRs next year)
  17. So I normally change my cars when the warranty has expired and that is what I was going to look to do in November with my VRs. However I have been recently travelling to Southampton (from Bristol) once a week and the car has been so amazing and sure footed (the Ps4's all round might of helped) that I really want to keep it now, at least until the new VRs comes out in late 2020/21as I just can see any point in changing it for the sake of it. So this means that i will be out of warranty, do I extend the Skoda warranty or go for a third party once or just save the money and hope for the best? Really not sure what to do as this is uncharted territory for me (shows how much I love the car) What do people advise? Also is there anything likely to go bang after three years - its been faultless so far. Thanks All Finnster
  18. I'm looking too, bought some second hand Cruz roof bars last year and they are awful, really fiddly to fit and I have to near enough smash them to get them off. I tried looking on Ebay for Thule ones and there does not seem that many that fit (unless I am looking at the wrong ones - very possible)

I am looking to change my VRS at the end of the year and have been looking at the Karoq SportLine, the only thing stopping me is that the TDi's are only available in 150 BHP tune (I don't really want to downgrade my power as I have a 190 BHP VRS TDi) Some websites show a Sportline is available in 190 BHP (Drive the deal etc) my question, is it or will it be available in 190 BHP, the Skoda website certainly does not show it as available. Thanks All
  21. I don't entirely agree with this, due to my job I need a car that is reliable and if it does unfortunately break down I have the peace of mind with a warranty. I tend to put a lot of miles on my car so keeping it for 5-6 years is not really an option. Plus my work insist that I have a car less that 4 years old. I am not in a position to spend £30K plus on a new car so would either need to take out a loan or go on a PCP deal - both of which are monthly commitments with the PCP being a far lower monthly commitment. Yes I could go for a much cheaper car, however I need a large - relatively powerful car for work and my family and given the above they are that much more expensive. I understand that the car will "never be mine" I am happy with this and factor it in to my financial decision. PCP will never be ideal financially as there will invariably be interest payments, especially as if you hand the car back/or swap at the end of the deal you don't have a tangible asset - however it is an affordable way of getting a new, reliable (hopefully) car and for me it works. I am pretty astute when it comes to financial planning (especially given that my wife is an accountant) so I am comfortable that PCP is the right thing for me to do.
  22. Agreed, my PCP deal ends at the beginning of next year, so I am looking at what I do to replace my VRS. Obviously I initially want to replace it with another VRS - however to spec a similar one to what I have now is around £34K that coupled with pretty poor PCP rates/residuals means I have started to look at other marques. So for the same or less (monthly) cost I can get an E Class estate, 3 Series Estate, A4 Estate etc etc - the on the road cost is a lot more but the residuals are far better so the monthly cost reflects that. A Volvo V60 (with a 190 BHP engine) has loads more kit than the VRS and you can get that for less than the VRS - obviously minus the fun factor. I must add that I do get a defence discount on my cars but that is factored in on all of them including the Skoda. Its a shame as my VRS has been utterly brilliant, totally faultless - but if i can get a better specced car for less then obviously that the way I am going to go. I just feel that Skoda are pricing themselves too high, this would be fine if they had all the kit on - but as a rule they don't, once you add the kit on that you really want or need you get up to the price of a completely different sector, then it becomes a far tougher choice.

I am with Direct line 12 years no claims protected, last year I had two claims one where I was smacked up the arse in a queue of traffic (New bumper lights etc) and the second was a new windscreen. I was expecting the worst at renewal but they actually reduced my premium so maybe they're not all Bstards?
  24. Don't know, apparently they said it was the last thing they checked before they were going to dismantle the dashboard so lucky really. I had no idea about the knee air bag either but apparently my car has one - the car is still rattle/buzz free so I guess it worked!
