  1. not even the new engine or an extended one year full warranty on top of the year and a half left looked appetising. i felt like my stomach had been ripped out i just kept thinking how can such a company do that to ordinary hard working folk. shame on you skoda. the worst thing was the dealer who i bought it from simpsons in great Yarmouth i called them to complain and the lad that sold it to me said a manager would call me back. guess what 3 weeks later i am still waiting all i can say is dealer of the year my arse.
  2. the man tried several skoda dealers mate and none seemed that keen to have it, all i kept getting was if the engine goes thats over 4k if the dsg goes thats 4k basically it was just a big expense and i felt i was leaving someone with a noose around their neck waiting for it to tighten. its a shame skoda don't have the same conscience as others do.
  3. Just a little update on my plight, after having the new engine fitted and a 1 year extended warranty as well lasting until september 2016 i went to flog it and was left amazed when i tried to part exchange it remembering it only has 17k on the clock and is in excellent condition barring engine trouble but with new engine at only 500 miles. i was greeted with the words as he was trying to pass on to main skoda dealers with its got leprosy and your cars toxic mate and loads of people thanks to the internet are not touching it with a barge pole. so much for thinking when i bought the car i had a car that might keep its value. i have traded it in but very disappointed at my loss and also the fact that skoda dealers where not even wanting to touch it to didn't give me great faith. i was there when the salesman who is a friend of my dads was trying to sell it on. 3rd time lucky a garage accepted it partially but only because it had just had a new engine and the fact that they know some are having 2 and 3 so very nervous. all i can say is never again will my shadow cross the threshold of any skoda dealer a very sad day.
  4. news update my local dealer says my new engines ready and pick it up tomorrow morning its been test driven and they say it drives amazingly but will soon see. not asked skoda uk anything yet being honest until i get the car back but will then be pressing them for some out of pocket expenses minimal. going up for sale then wondering what a sept 2012 1.4 vrs will go for with a new engine and nearly 17k on the clock.any offers lol.
  5. i asked if i needed to report a new engine to the dvla and my dealer told me that the new engine comes with a blank block and they stamp my old engine number onto the new block. interesting will update you when i get it back.
  6. Further to my post about my cave engine blowing up.i have now had confirmation of a new engine at a cost to Skoda of about £4500 so not cheap. I am told the old cave engine isn't used anymore and this will be a new one bought over from the factory in Germany. I hope to receive it next week but am told it takes between 2 and 3 days to fit. I think Skoda are pushing the dealer to fit it quick as i already have had a hire car over 2 weeks. Maybe if they had listened the first time at the oil consumption test stage it wouldn't have been costing as much as it is. Thank you all for your help on here especially freedom. Its nice to know there are genuine people out there that are willing to help, just a shame the manufacturers are not as obliging.
  7. i also wondered if the garage that sold it me which in fairness isn't the one thats dealing with me now actually new about the problem and sold it off cheap to get rid. they say if its to good to be true then its a problem.
  8. hi thanks for your help my car was an x demonstrator brought with 4.5k on the clock. it was first registered in september 2012 and looking on the log book is a cave engine. i pretty much noticed after a thousand miles of me having it and the oil light coming on that i thought either it was a natural thing or could be an issue. just before 10k i booked it in for the first service and after putting over 5 litres in from 4.5k to under 10k i mentioned it to the dealer and they said it did sound a lot and so would have a consumption test done on it through skoda uk. i got my very own charlotte from skoda uk and after not being happy at the first consumption test they did another but again told it was within tolerance. it is now at just under 17k and several litres later it has now given up and the compression in cylinder 4 is no more spark plug burnt out and no compression. i complained so much all they did was close the case because in there eyes it was within tolerance. it doesn't seem fair that you try your hardest to get help and it falls on deaf ears then when it goes caboom then they look for anyone but themselves to blame.
  9. just to let you know i have a 62 plate fabia vrs and haven't thrashed it around after 2 oil consumption tests my engine decided to give up the ghost and pack in. i was using roughly between one litre every 800 to 850 miles and as i was driving the engine just popped. it turns out the fourth cylinder blew because of excess oil use and part of the spark plug burnt out falling into the engine. i now have a courtesy car and am awaiting the findings if its my fault or theirs, not quite sure how it can be mine as i kept it topped up as much as humanly possible and challenged both consumption test after being told they were in tolerance.maybe they should have told the bloody engine that and it might not have gone on strike. very disappointed in the whole skoda experience and i will be selling it no matter what the outcome. shame on you skoda.
  10. just to make people aware i have posted on here before about my oil consumption and finally my engine has give up the ghost. i was travelling merrily on my way when it decided to blow up. number 4 cylinder burnt our because of excess oil consumption which in turn burnt out the spark plug after a technician did a test on it basically its f@&ked. now looks like a new engine at nearly £5.000. i am not happy this is a 62 plate car 18 months old i haven't thrashed the nuts off it everywhere 2 oil consumption tests pleads from me to get it sorted then pop goes the bloody engine. now in a courtesy car whilst they decide if its my fault or theirs amazing as i had pushed to get the oil problem sorted replacing a litre of oil every 800 to 850 miles. i am disgusted on how i have been treated and won't be buying skoda again such a shame, shame on you skoda.

  13. this was the figures for my first oil consumption test i asked for a copy. oil weight before drive test including container 3100g 3028g drained oil weight after test including identical container 2950g 2833g weight difference after driving 300km 3100-2950=150g 195 oil volume calculation based on weight difference and specific weight 0.29ltr /1000km result of oil consumption model test 0.5361/1000km 0.29ltr. copied off my sheet i can't make heads or tales of the figures lol.
  14. hi just an update from my earlier post they say that my consumption test isn't as bad as they thought after doing 600 miles they say its .4 of a litre to 1000km around 600 miles so there saying its ok i am not so sure. the really interesting thing was when i took it last week for the oil test he had that much faith he asked me to sign a form to say that i wouldn't blow the engine up lol. now thats got to be faith (not).
  15. I have been watching this post very carefully as my car a sept 2012 skoda fabia vrs is using in my eyes lots of oil.i got it at 5 months old an ex demonstrator and thought i bagged a bargain at £12.000 with only 4.500 on the clock.but i seemed to be putting lots of oil in.around a litre a month since i had it or around every 1000 miles i think this seems excessive. i have had one oil consumption test which says its high but within the manufacturers tolerances. i was still not happy so went to skoda uk were my case manager is ok but i think i am being fobbed off. if i was thrashing it everywhere i could understand the use but as i am not this is worrying. i have another test tomorrow as i went last week for another oil weigh in and will get the results when i take it in tomorrow. i was told to do between 500 and 600 miles. i have never had a car where i have had to carry oil in the boot before because i think i might on a long run somewhere be in trouble. i have no faith in the car or engine and regret the day i got it. i think if its not sorted soon my days and skodas will come to a sad ending as i will never buy one again it may well be my first and last such a shame as i do love the car. it also made me unhappy when one of the dealers said well there soft pistons mate and they do use lots of oil well if thats the case maybe they should tell you this when your buying one.
