  1. Well new wiper stalk and now everything's ok. Pretty sure the garage caused the wiper stalk failure when they pulled the column out to get to a torx bolt. Of course it's my view versus their view, and my car is 10 years old..
  2. Bizarre but true, just had my brake switch fail - replaced by garage and now my front windscreen wipers don't operate.. Only rear wiper seems to run. Looks like someone might of disturbed something in the steering column or mashed the wiper stalk..
  3. Sounds like the clutch kit is the wrong one for the car ?
  4. Hello all, as the topic says I'm getting pretty awful vibration at the steering wheel when braking at normal speeds. Seems the oscillation really kicks in around 30mph. Car is an 04 vrs. So question is what parts are causing it ? I'm thinking the front discs and pads but I'm also starting to suspect trackrod ends as the steering seems exceptionally light. Also the steering rack was replaced when I brought it a year ago.. Could something have loosened itself off causing this vibration ? Many thanks in advance
  5. 1.9. Just search on here for 1.4 oil chain failure. 1.4 - when it fails don't expect skoda /vw to help in any way.
  6. www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/onlineservices/vehicledefects.htm Matt - don't you work for skoda ?
  7. Would like to thrown in my opinion - VW really screwed up with this design - IMHO (for what its worth) a chain can't handle the extreme changes in load placed on it during the rotation through the ignition cycle; esp with a 3 cylinder engine which is inherently unbalanced. Eventually if the chain is undersized metal fatigue will cause it to fail. Just this week had a noisy alternator pulley changed on my passat - the noise on idle being caused by the sprang clutch on the alternator pulley locking solid. I never considered why a one way clutch was used on the alternator - but of course googling for the answer provided the info that the speed of the engine rotation is not constant when going through the compression cycle - hence to limit the tension change on the belt this clutch effectively decouples the alternator from the changes in speed of the engine. The chain arrangement on this engine has no let up in tension changes and hence needs to be carefully spec'd to prevent early failure. As far as I'm concerned VOSA should be contacted as a catastrophic of an engine with no pre warning is a disaster waiting to happen.
